Hi everyone. Before I get buried under an avalanche of comments, I do want to acknowledge that the book is inconsistent regarding whether or not you have to have a formula when crafting or upgrading a rune (or if you can forego having a formula and copy an existing rune). I largely think these are simple editing errors, and it's probably all moot since you can only copy an item that is common rarity. And if it's common rarity, then it should be simple enough to just purchase the formula. Long story short, when in doubt, have the formula. 😀

I fully expect to soon get an errata for GM Core page 225: The Etching Process "Etching a rune onto an item follows the same process as using the Craft activity to make an item. You must be able to Craft magic items, have the formula for the rune, have the item you’re adding the rune to in your possession throughout the etching process, and meet any special Craft Requirements." Here the requirement "have the formula for the rune" should be errata'ed - you should only need the formula for crafting uncommon and rare runes, and you don't need the formula for an uncommon or rare rune if you have a formula for a lower version of the same rune (as long as it has the same rarity (or lower)). This cannot be anything else than an editing error. Edit: Clarified - I first wrote the opposite of what I meant regarding needing to have a formula. You don't need a formula for common items - only rare and uncommon ones.

@@PappaTrond Sorry it's a little confusing but (in your errated version) I think your saying for etching runes specifically you shouldn't need the formula for anything up to rare? And then for upgrading you don't need the formula if you have a lesser formula?
@PappaTrond10 ай бұрын
@@thisjust10 You don't need a formula for crafting common items, including runes. You do need a formula for crafting uncommon and rare items, like runes. If you have the formula for a rune like the Weapon Potency Rune "Fanged" (which is uncommon), then you can craft it (if you have a high enough level and the Magical Crafting feat). And - if you have the formula for Fanged, then you can craft Fanged (Greater) even if you don't have the formula for Fanged (Greater).

Great video as usual. I love how you manage to keep your scrupts concise but still bring up relevant examples. These are really helping me explain new rules to my players as we make the jump to 2E from 1E.

Awesome video as usual. One thing I would like to see is a video on how to tell if a monster has sight or not. Thank you for the content.

One question I haven't found a definitive answer for: When transferring an existing rune - must the crafter's level be equal or higher than the level of the rune? I suspect "yes". Even though it is would be a bummer if you have an item with a rune higher than your level - then you can't transfer it. Easy to house rule, though.

I would expect that you do need to meet the level requirement of the higher level rune.

Is Runes Part 1 meant to not be in this playlist?

If you're looking in the Crafting playlist, then no -- I didn't include Part 1 in that playlist. It doesn't discuss crafting runes... it's more about what they are and how they work. Here's a link to it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6q7h2tjltZ5ZsU
