Jordan Peele really stepped up his film quality with IMAX.. the cinematography is beautiful specially in theaters. I was so disturbed and surprised by it all that I couldn’t sleep that night. I wanted to know why he crafted the movie the way he did and what it meant. You made a point that not many videos have made, digital media is used for almost everything nowadays. And though it’s useful it’s also fragile- one click on delete and it’s gone. Maybe this is also why he chose imax this time instead of digital? Just like the characters choose film to capture the ufo.. there’s a parallel there for sure

It gave that directorial and visual world surrounding the Haywoods that I don't believe we ever saw before. There's not many horror sci fi movies that can do it like Jordan Peele did. Nothing to do with the cinematography aspect of this essay, but I think the reason that UFO videos are unconvincing to most people is because they're still primarily reflecting individual experiences, and we won't be convinced until we experience them collectively. This was such a good watch. I was getting my thoughts out about Nope last night, and my favorite theory to talk about was [spoiler] . . . . . . . . . The monster is a camera, a digital camera. Its viewing organ (which looks directly at us, the audience, in the opening) is a giant camera sensor! The resemblance is uncanny, i recognized it immediately. Its mouth is much like an aperture, too. I think it's extremely fitting for the monster to be a camera because you can tell that Jordan has GREAT reverence for these giant cameras, and how much power they have, and how we need to respect that power, as artists, and not use this incredible technology irresponsibly. As a film maker, he has the whole world watching, so it would make sense that this anxiety over the war of information, using his platform responsibly, etc. I mean this in earnest, how long is it til someone tries to capture an ACTUAL tragedy in imax, for the glory and fame of it? Honestly it's my fav jordan peele film. If you found any of this interesting, i have a video about it on my channel :] I also cover other theories in the video. Edit: fuck Kanye tho for real lol

I think it's a major theme in the movie and kind of a meta thing for the real world as well. Since the dawn of time, humanity has been recording our lives. From cave paintings, to sculptures, to writings, carvings, drawings, film, pictures, ect. It's a rather integral part of our culture as human beings. Recording something makes it real. It makes it last beyond just our memory. In a way, nothing is really real to us until we record it for others to see.

How to shoot a ufo? Back in 1993 I was an intern on the university of Utrecht, working on the Dutch OpenTower Telescope and this came up. The professor in charge said in order for a sighting to be of any value, you would have to have known size objects in frame with the UFO and the shot should be stable and you would need a focal length. Only then can you calculate size and speed. When movement, size and or speed are abnormal compared to our current technology can we classify it as a ufo. So I would shoot it through me 1250mm equivalent telescope on a stable platform and make sure the sky line is in plane view and document my angle, elevation and exact position. And then send the footage to researchers that can do the math and wait what they say. And if there’s time I would call friends to step out and start shooting it too. More angle more accuracy. But that’s the thing with UFOs, the sightings are sudden so you never are setup. Even the NAVY their images from a few years back, to me look like a bird flying in the opposite direction followed by the gimbal, making it seem faster. And Thunderf00t then actually also came up with that hypothesis and did some maths that confirmed my idea too. Seemingly uninteresting factors can have enormous consequences. For example we shot a film 3 years back and we hired a Milo for repeatable moves. We shot trucks coming over the bridge and the shots didn’t like up, despite the MILO! None of us had accounted for the movement of a bridge (we aren’t civil engineers) when heavy loads are on it. And then having a long lens, that 3-5mm flex becomes pretty visible. So standing on a bridge or a balcony that flexes minimally can make an object on a long less seem to move very fast to arbitrary direction. So, getting more people to film from different angles helps to determine authenticity and size, speed etc.

I was flying my drone at night in my hometown several weeks ago. What I didn't realize is that I was causing a stir when several people were convinced that it MUST have been a UFO because known aircraft can't make those moves. In fact, a neighbor was just about to go on Facebook live with PROOF of UFO's when they noticed me standing in the driveway. It's really that easy for people to believe what they want to believe.

It’s such a great movie that, on the surface, seems rather straight forward, something that Jordan Peele isn’t quite known for, but there’s so much subtext and meaning there to take from. While I didn’t care for the cinematography of Get Out, the story and the acting were far fascinating that I feel it compensated. Us, I don’t think the cinematography was bad by any stretch, but nothing to praise it for. For me, it was serviceable. Nope is on a new level beginning in a television lighting from Gordy’s Home set into a more cinematic present, outside from the even studio lighting where the cinematographer works with natural lighting, and manipulating it with more conventional film lights, gels, scrims, etc.. Beyond his use in IMAX cameras, the lighting had a more cinematic quality. The nighttime shots were really great. Also, Keke Palmer doing a Kaneda bike slide from Akira was awesome. This is a love letter to the spectacle, the blockbuster, but deconstruction of it too, down to the crew and animals. Can’t wait to see it again. Wished there was a local IMAX, but sadly, will have to settle for the regular viewing.

I don't think the problem is only about video quality. We'd also want ways of establishing the authority of the people recording. The US Navy has some authority and trust that they're not trying to fool the world, but lacks good video quality. But a random person with an IMAX camera would lack the authority, and people would be right to be extremely suspicious. One "accessible" way of establishing authority would be if lots of people filmed the UFO, across a range of recoding equipment. I think if we could be pretty sure that they weren't coordinating, that would make it convincing that it wasn't just a fake video. **For example, if a UFO flew over Coachella, and people recorded on their phones while the hired professional videographers filmed it on their good video equipment, that would convince me that it wasn't CGI. Then you wouldn't need the authority of the US Navy or the equipment of an IMAX camera.** It pushes it back to a question of if the UFO was aliens or military or a fancy drone that someone built-but at least the truth of the event wouldn't be in question.

5:53 The thing about capturing a UFO on film is that you would have the negatives. I don't think it's possible to print VFX onto negatives, and even if it were, I imagine only a handful of people on the planet have that capability. So actually, any sort of celluloid evidence of UFOs would be irrefutable proof that what the film shows actually happened, especially if it were examined by experts.

This is a fantastic conundrum. We have two sciences (probably more) whose jobs are to look at the sky: astronomers, astro-physicists, meteorologists and the like. Until either of those come out of their labs (or telescopes) to express that they saw evidence let alone produce it, it is highly unlikely that large swaths of people will believe anything is there. Nevertheless, a fascinating topic to ponder.

I hope this feedback is useful but I don’t feel that this essay answered the prompt in any way. Yes, Jordan used IMAX, but that’s about all you do to describe why it feels different. You could have gone into the cinematographer’s past projects, the differences between film and digital, aspect ratios, how they captured scale and juxtaposed it to close-ups to create tension, etc. Alternatively, you could relabel the essay “how Nope made me question reality” or something similar. Because essentially that’s the focus of your essay. I don’t mean to hate, I was just left very confused at the end

This was so much more interesting because the focus was not about what camera to use in a general sense although it actually was totally about that and the use of an imax camera but the excellent narration allowed the focus to not get preoccupied by cinematic imagery but realise the essential nature of its meaning. Do we believe in what we are seeing. The fact that this video was talking about Nope and alien life is possibly irrelevant. The reference to fake news and a lack of intellectual integrity has led science and fact to be replaced by identity and our limited perception of truth through self interest. At this point if we are looking for what is more real and holds more certainty of truth we might trust how we are made to feel when watching Frozen father than the illusion of truth in our preferred news feeds. Very interesting stuff. In terms of alien life it’s probably more likely to be a visitation of a microbe buried somewhere in a random meteor and frankly at that point the camera of choice is an electron microscope and those images are oddly wholly believed as well as being mind bending. Thanks for an excellent video. Btw Maybe check out F for Fake by Orson Welles. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on that in this context. Thanks again.

the way I would convice the world the UFO was real was just to bring as many people as possible to the site, theyll have their phones and start filming and uploading. Something becomes a lot more believable if you see the same thing captured by multiple people from multiple angles. Cause we are deeply cooperative beings, we are conditioned to believe something we see repeated more often rather than the thing that is presented in the best quality.

@@impatrickt Any thoughts on Station Eleven? I really only watch episodes 1 & 7 as they are cohesive. But love the cinematography & score & storytelling.

@@brentpeddy4223 why did you skip episodes?

@@impatrickt I really found it difficult to get into the future episodes. Wasn't really into that world building part of the series. It's so different than the past/present part of the series. I'm slowly starting to watch other episodes.

great video, but what is that buzzing/rumbling sound in the video?

I added a low tone to make it uncomfortable sub consciously but your conscious picked up on it

Just to become clear seeing a UFO is not seeing an alien. We have a lot of UFO videos because we have a lot of experimental technology not realized to the public. The US makes a lot of these things, for example, the drones they test in the past and now are known. And probably, if alien life becomes known, the best way this happens is for radio data from space. Very nice video btw.

I hated the "2nd" look of the alien until someone mentioned "angels" .... then after the akira bike slide the first thing came to mind was that he was probably inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion?

A suite of Canon 16K EOS Rs located at alleged hotspots. By capturing the mundane sharp, one "should" get closer to any actual anomalies that might or might not exist.

You are overthink this. It would be no different then pulling out your iPhone and pressing the record. Problem has been the resolution for something so high in the sky. As soon as someone zooms in it’s a blurry mess. Tech would need to catch up.
