I wonder where the 890 sits in the capital ship meta? Having the highest shields next to the idris. I hope since it doesn't have a large armament they atleast give the 890 blades from the factory to automate it's defenses. I know it isn't a military capital class ship. But i do think it should take the sane gameplay to bring it down or even bring agression to a fight.

Until we have it, I'll continue to say we need Maelstrom. If they properly implement physical armor we'll start seeing the light fighter/interceptor meta go away, because damage resistance combined with damage reduction, countered of course by things like penetration, will help to begin differentiating ships, armor types, and weapon choice far more than currently.

Well to be fair they’re sharing their hopes and dreams. While he’s pretty controversial to some, highly recommend watching Avenger_1’s content on this as well. Other than his normal point about dogfighting geometry, he brought up some other good criticisms of their plan. One thing he brought up that was cool was guiding torpedos to target and picking your angle. Then, you could choose to shut off the torps engine so pdcs can’t target it. Cool idea!

Certainly can’t use the ship that was specifically designed for the task. I fired 20 ion shots at the Idris and didn’t even see a dent in the shields. And once it focused on me I lasted 20 seconds. Couldn’t boost away fast enough thanks to master modes.

I'd chalk that up to advertisement. I think they really screwed up, advertising the Ares as if it can split a capital ship. It cannot. Its gun isn't THAT big. It's capable of dealing a killing blow, but it's role is precision high damage to what is effectively a boss character. In an MMO, the class that did the biggest burst dps doesn't simply show up and kill a boss. It just does more than a group of standard "fighters" could by itself.

@@Humpdurious Target the PDCs and turrets with ballistic weapons to break them through the shields. Now that its softened up it can only defend against torpedos by flaring.

I agree with your assessment of the "IAE Show." Its ok, but its goes by really quick and I think they couldve built off this and made it more of a "show." Kinda a wasted opportunity imo.

@@matteobarbarini3120 I only did it because he was parked at the Docking Port at Tressler and wouldn't store it after we asked nicely. We were 7 wanting to go fight the Idris. I normally wouldn't do this.

can we agree that bomber get screwed on this one? The "shield can be soften with retaliator" but pds shoot torps so you need to take a shield face, shield emitters, turrets and pds before shooting a torpedoes... Sure you can saturate the pds by shooting a lot of torpedoes but that is the brute force solution. For me polaris, retaliator and eclipse just lost the main weapons and torps is just a finish move if you don't want to board a ship.

but if you can have hacking gameplay to hide the torpedo signature lowdown below 600m that can make torpedoes work, they have to spot the torpedo with naked eyes and it won't have pip AKA jamp their radar with hacking mechanic

​@AJxB that's about as dumb as what he said about Redeemers.... You all really aren't getting it are you? It's not about having even numbers, guy. It's about bringing the correct tools for the job. If the Polaris is crewed by 12 people, and you bring 12 snub fighters, do you think that's actually an even battle??? No. It's not. The snubs won't do jack sh*t... And if the Redeemers came in with 4x ships, they might work the shields and bit but in truth, you're going to still need more. That's not OP. That's common sense. You'll need several tools to take out a capital ship. Not just a swarm. Bombers, fighters and the likes. It's a layered fight that'll take smart moves to win.

If they end up not being....then I was wrong and who knows obviously size 5 would be better, but in my mind I still see it as a good gunship.

Sorry, dude I dont want to diminish your excitement... but your getting far to deep into mind-castle land and think far to much into it. This whole idea is a pipe dream. And it has been layed out in great detail on Spectrum and in Videos why it is a pipe dream that has barley anything to do with the games reality... I mean, they literally contradict each other within five minutes about what the place and role of fighter is in all this... its actually sad.

@@durtyred86 well lets start with that first they say you shouldnt go in with small weapons (aka fighters) and later say, fighters are perfect for taking out key components on the ship. More specifically they want fighters to take out turrets and PDCs... while those have the purpose to fight the fighter that shall fight them... so, I guess the better DPS wins, or the smaller frame as usual. Worst offender however is the emphasis on fighter at all. If the fighters are so importent to crack a capital... i dont nee dot bring a capital. We already have fighters that are as powerfull as the capitals weapons, while being cheaper and have a better chance of survival. If the capital however is resiliant enough to withstand fighter attacks... I dont need fighters and the entire presentation/dsicussion is moot. But they literally say a capital versus another capital is the "worst scenario" - how can that be. That is the whole purpose of a capital ship, engaging another capital. Sure *more* ships are always better, a 1on1 may not be ideal... but it cannot be the "worst scenario by design, because then the entire design makes no sense.

@Liopleurodon ok. So you got a few things confused, and you aren't very sure of the SoP. There's a difference between GOING IN & bringing in afterwards. What this means is, it's stupid to bring fighters in at the VERY beginning of the battle because the shields haven't been taken down yet. Does this mean roll in without fighters? No. It means use your fighters as a bomber deterrent, or for another aspect of the battle. After the shields are taken down by bombers and large caliber weapons, THEN the fighters can swarm in and attempt to take out the PDC's. As for capital vs capital, it's a linked chain... But if you ONLY have a capital, and the other team has a whole squadron of fighters, a few bombers and the likes, you're in trouble. Yes, you can try to focus down their shields but they have several different ships that says they'll win in that case. Think of it as transformers... With the sword and head being the capital ship. The arms and legs are bombers, fighters, and whatever else you add to your outfit. There was absolutely no contradiction here at all. You simply didn't understand what they were saying.
