Thanks a ton. This video was just what I needed. One of the adjustment motors was jammed in my 1999 Corolla and what I learned from your video saved me the trip to a repair shop and a cost of maybe a hundred euros / ordering spare parts from a scrap yard and having no to little idea what to do with them. I thought the jammed electric motor was dead for sure but having learned from you how it's supposed to work all I needed to do was take it out, open the chassis and "rewind" the cogs a bit. I put the motor back in, connected it with the battery and it sprung alive. For some reason the motor had driven the shaft too much out. At a such extreme the cogs become stiffy and the motor doesn't have enough power to work them. The biggest trouble was to reconnect the electric motor's shaft with the joint inside the lamp. The shaft couldn't reach the joint. I was able to lodge it again by taking the whole lamp thingie out and removing the low beam bulb and putting a screwdriver's shaft through the bulb's hole. I used the screwdriver to twist and bend the lamp's basin (where the joint is seated) closer to the leveling motor's shaft and that's how the shaft finally locked with the joint. Again, this was awesome. Your video seems to be the the only one on KZbin addressing these parts or maybe just the one that that fit my search words. Anyway, thanks and keep up the good work. I accidentally over adjusted my brand new aftermarket headlights I bought for $865 and now they won't adjust and I took the adjustment thing off and it wasn't attached inside that white thing and I didn't understand how it's supposed to work. You saved my butt! Gonna take them back off my truck and make sure the metal ball clicks inside the space it's supposed to go so I can readjust my headlights!

I did disconnect the shaft from my headlight by turning the shaft (mine is a threaded metal shaft) and leaving the plastic ball joint inside. at the moment I have not yet found out what the problem is with my headlight leveling. My car is Toyota Estima ACR30 2003.

Well done clear explanation I had 2017 qaushqai with led headlights,I removed the motor unit thinking it was a bulb but it was the motor,now my lowbeam is far too low and I think the nipple is not sitting in the slot,it must be pushing against it so will need to figure out a way of getting it back into the headlight fitting thanks.

Great video. Be warned that some manufacturers have different joint implementations. For example, Audi A4 and VW Passat B5 have ball joint in a slot and you have to slide the ball towards middle of the car about 15 mm to disconnect the joint. I think the joint would simply break if you try to pull it out directly.

Hi Peter. Your video is very helpful. Adaptive lights in my 2015 Volvo V60 stopped working. Volvo says to replace the complete light unit. Price? 1000 euros! LOL! I hope I can find this motor and replace it myself.
