I have 4C hair...and it's a bit too short to get into a "tucking" style so I just leave it to do as it pleases. Generally this has been beneficial especially when I massage my scalp and hair with olive oil. Just a friendly addition to this video. I'm a big fan of this channel, thanks for allowing me to take better care of my hair and to love what nature has given me. 😊
@maryamyusuf6608 жыл бұрын
i love that you wear your hair out and have fun with it more since you've reached your goal length. I feel like most naturals are too used to sticking strictly with their regimen, tucking in their ends 24/7 never getting to appreciate their lengths :/ . it's good to take care of your hair and be cautious but if growing longer/ healthier hair means not seeing your hair then i don't want long hair
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
Thank yoooou! Well in my case, I have very breakage-prone hair so my current routine of wearing my hair out is not without its drawbacks: my hair's not really getting much longer. I think it's grown about 1-2 inches in the past 7 months or so... As soon as I start protective styling it grows like wildflowers, though! But what's the point of having long hair if you NEVER wear it out!? :) X

Also, if you have fine hair, use henna. that also fills in the gaps (permanently) so you hair retain length a bit more easier. Fine haired naturals have the hardest time retaining length since that strand are so fine (not thin). That is what helped me.
@LiciousTina888 жыл бұрын
how do you apply the henna.. I have naturally fine hair.. seems like everything causes breakage. so I wear wigs or sew ins..but this you speak of.. I must know please!
@West_Indian_Aiyah8 жыл бұрын
There are several ways you can mix it. I apply it after cleaning my hair and before deep conditioning. I steep green tea & slippery elm bark tea and let that cool a bit (green tea helps the dye release a bit quicker), pour the powder in a glass or plastic bowl (do not use metal tools of any kind) while whisking it with plastic fork to get the lumps out, i then add silk amino acids i got from lotioncrafter (dot) com (this is optional, i add SAA to everything, it makes my hair so soft). You can add any oils of your choosing to help the henna rinse out easier while still getting the benefits, the slippery elm tea helps as well. I make the mixture before prepooing and washing my hair so it can sit for a bit and the dye can release. edited to dd: I forgot to mention, i leave it on for 3-12 hours depending on the time of day/night i do it, lol. cover your head with a plastic cap (or bag) after applying it.

Soo....the last few weeks I've been scrambling around KZbin trying to find your channel because KZbin deleted all my subscriptions a while back and now my hair is long enough that i want to keep it stretched as much as possible. I remembered your videos and wanted to become familiar with your processes again. I couldn't remember your channel name so I just watched natural hair videos as usual as *prayed* that you would show up in my recommendations. PRAYERS ANSWERED!!!!!
@catherinejameson22188 жыл бұрын
I nearly cried when I found your videos... I wish I had seen them when I was younger. I seriously dragged my hair through hell and lost 7 inches because of it. I'm 18 and I'm trying to grow my hair again. I used your detangling method and it worked with a really small amount of shedding (it could fit in a baby's hand)! Thank you so much for making these videos. I hope to grow my hair as fast and healthy as yours.

Interesting...I protective style my hair a lot...however just a couple weeks ago I started my own challenge of strictly no combs or brushes (except when parting hair) and just finger detangling...let me tell you I promise you It Looks like my hair grew OVERNIGHT. It seemed to APPEAR thicker. I was used to losing TONS of unnecessary strands in the combs (not shed, breakage), and that was minimized since stopping combs. We will see if it continues to grow thicker tho.

Because they making me broke. Anyway great tips, finger detangling is by far the best tip I need to apply, because my shedding is insane, I truly think there's breakage included with my shedding, so your right I'm setting aside my combs........BTW My protective style is minitwist, it's not really a protective style it's more so "My Forever Style"

Thanks boo. I keep my hair braided in individuals for 3 months. I did this last year and did it 3x's. By the time I took out my hair man, WOW, I had crop and everyone noticed. Before going into braids again, I'd wash and DC (i'll now add oil rinsing to my regimen) and then i'll let it air dry 50% then use the tension method for the rest. My hair is thick and full.

Thanks for the tips. Although it took me a long time to get on with it, finger detangling is the way to go for me. I do apply a little hot oil and melted Shea butter on my scalp when massaging and apply on my hair when I have twists only once a week so my scalp doesn't get itchy. Hot oil treatments work wonders on my hair and I always start with massaging my scalp down to my ends. Most people do the other way round but I find I get better results with my hair that way.

I moisturize enough to keep it moisturized for the rest of the week. i deep condition, do protein treatments. im always finger detangling and im always gentle. I get trims every six months. I've done every hair treatment in the book. Litterally I've been on my hair journey for 5 years. I've only kept and retained 5 inches. i notice mt hair gets longer but everytime i go to get it trimmed i always end up cutting off everything i grew because its all split ends. Hello Asha! Oh I've missed you and I've missed a lot in general, I'm playing catch up to my subscriptions, lol!! My hair grows ultra slow Asha and so that I can retain as much length as I can I'm going to take your advice and try a low manipulation regimen...if only my hair was just longer already I would do buns so often I wouldn't even worry about stretching it for length and what not, I would just bun it and go lol! For the past 2 weeks I've been massages my hair more....I love your slide clips you have a pretty interesting and active life. Girl, I tried to explain "hydral fatigue" to my mom last year from one of your past videos and she was so not understanding me lol, she kind of shushed me she didn't want to hear anymore, lol! I have to get back into the coconut oil to protect my strands from over expansion. Yes oh yes, I haven't used a comb in 3 years and I love it but I finally used my Denman 3 weeks ago after over 5 years of not brushing my hair and the bristles felt so good Asha, like therapeutic lol! I keep saying it and not doing it but I'm getting some weave lol, I think that will help me tremendously with low manipulation styles and I'm kind of tired of wearing Ms. Megan my Sunday wig, lol! Great video, 2 thumbs up, thanks for sharing and I'm sharing this on my GG+ page so I can have this as a nice reminder : )
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
Hey Kerducky! I was wondering where you'd got to!! :) As regards short hair and protective styling, it's still possible. If you haven't already, you should try wearing your hair in twists and styling those twists protectively. For example, in my early days, I would wear my small twists in 2 canerows (cornrows) with the ends tucked. Twisting/plaiting your hair makes it easier to style it protectively if it's short. It's interesting you say your hair is short, because in your thumbnail your twists look really plump and long! :D Hey thanks! Those clips were taken from a student TV show I used to be on called Breaking Maas (if you check it out look at season 4). Hygral fatigue is definitely real - I'm glad you're working on it! Your hair must be different from mine if it loves Denman brushes! They break mine to pieces! I'm happy for you though. Maybe that means that combing/brushing your hair isn't too bad. Weave is a good solution! Please keep me updated! Stay sweet!
@kerducky8 жыл бұрын
Naturally High Hello again my friend! I don't want to be misleading, my hair is shorter than I'd like it to be lol, I say I prefer it to be longer much longer lol! People would probably say I have medium to long length hair, heck even when I had SL hair people said it long, so I guess I should just say I have long hair, lol! I'm a little past APL but it's not all around APL, that would make a HUGE difference for me, like my bangs aren't even past my chin and my sides reach down a lil past collarbone and I have S U P E R shrinkage, so I get this weird mushroom shape look that I don't really like. Oh Asha I wear nothing but twists lol and they're always tucked under but I do high manipulation flat twist styles, (I keep them in for 1-2 wks) and occasionally I do 2 strand twist styles. When I say high manipulation I'm not really twisting super tight but the flat twist styles that I like to do mostly take about 3-4 hours depending on how stretched my hair is. I want to adopt a less time consuming regimen for styling...like I'm going to try the 2 flat twists but I'm so picky, the front of my hair and the top of head the shape, certain styles just don't look right lol, I have to play around with it. I would like to do chunky twists like you but when I've tried chunky twists I lose length and then I can't style like I want, lol! I would love to just throw my hair up into a bun but the amount of stretching I have to do to get to my liking, it's like 3 steps, I stretch my hair for 2 days and on the 3rd day it's ready lol! Season 4 gotcha lol!! Well my hair loved the Denman when I had piles of conditioner on it and I took out 2 of the rows so it was super modified lol but I only used it because I felt like I could get a really thorough trim (I do light dustings all the time) but I don't plan on using it again, I'll probably go buy a wide tooth comb the next time I'm in need of a good trim. And I'm really going to get some weave already, I agree it will help so much. Thanks so much for you can words and in depth responses and your so nice as well, I hope you have a wonderful weekend I will definitely keep you updated : )

my hair hates coconut oil 😔
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
Mine does too, somewhat. Thing is, I ONLY ever use it prior to washing! It makes a big difference as regards breaking during washing - there are studies on this!
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
Of course you're free to use olive oil - it's probably just as effective. :)

Thanks for your video! What would you recommend for dry scalp that occurs between washes? And how do you prepare your 2 strand twists for bed?
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
Hey! Luckily I rarely suffer from dry scalp! I'd recommend scalp massages to stimulate the release of sebum. If your hair is dry, try adding water since oil doesn't moisturise.
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
And for growth, I'd recommend moisturising at night when necessary and keeping hair plaited. There's no need to release the twists every day. For a treat, I recommend wearing them out at the weekend.

+RosaL180 Hey! Thanks for the request. I'm very unlikely to do that as it would lead to knots galore! I never let my hair shrink up unless I've got no choice. Hey! Happy to hear that. Does your fair feel dry after you cleanse? Then consider adding this step. If not, there's no need. I now oil rinse after co-washing as well!

+Nelly B. Nah! I'd love to try it though! I have no idea where to get the clay. And I imagine it's expensive... Any advice?
@Blessednelly_8 жыл бұрын
not too expensive.. u can get a 1lb tub on the UK amazon site for less than 10 pounds, check this link www.amazon.co.uk/Aztec-Secret-Indian-Healing-Facial/dp/B0014P8L9W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1462226742&sr=8-3&keywords=bentonite+clay

+Nelly B. Thanks for the link! Delivery from the UK tends to be expensive so I stick to the German Amazon store. I've found Rhassoul clay on there and it's cheap as chips! Can't wait t try! X

Great tips! I did notice that when your hair was much much shorter like mine (short/medium length) you wore double strand twists a lot. I really try, but my twists look so terrible that I'm forced to wear a twist outs. Maybe I should go to a salon, lol! I noticed you mentioned aphogee (don't mind spelling). Have you tried henna? Does it do the same thing as aphogee? which do you prefer? Can I use both?
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
+Alta Jacob I did wear twists but I rarely wore them loose: I used to plait them; goddess braid them, or bun them somehow. If I did want to wear them loose, I'd invest more time into the process and make them smaller. I have used henna - it helped a bit with porosity: my hair felt more moisturised for longer. However, if I were to choose one, it'd definitely be ApHogee - henna's even more difficult to work with and requires more time! You're free to use both but use the ApHogee first since the henna will coat your hair and make it difficult for ApHogee to patch up the gaps.

great video...i had a questing tho....what is that protein treatment you spoke on In the video the one that takes a long time? can you explain it?
@NaturallyHigh8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It's the ApHogee 2-step protein treatment. You apply it to freshly washed hair and dry it to let it harden. Then you rinse your hair out. I'll make a video on it so stay tuned!

Aphogee Step 2 has changed its formula. I noticed the change in 2016. My hair does not respond as well to the new formula. Any suggestions for a good 'intense, hard' protein treatment? You are very well spoken, enjoyed the video, first time to your channel.

@lovehope37538 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I will try it real soon. I have tried two eggs, black castor oil, and honey (used wild honey from Coastal Scents) that work, just needed more slip. Your recipe seems like it has slip because of the mayo. I will let you know. Thanks for your reply.

Will you be attending my alma mata? You'll have the time of your life!! I loved it there! My major tip is to never wear your hair out while you're outside, especially if you're cycling. As soon as you get to your destination, just go to the loo and remove your scarf and woolly hat. This will prevent your hair from having to adjust to winter - because it never will!

In terms of products, there are several black hair shops in the centre of Maastricht (and barely any black people - it's as if they built one shop per black resident). You'll probably find what you need there. You can get your castor polar De Tuinen and your olive and coconut oils at Albert Heijn. Don't buy the coconut oil at de Tuinen as its overpriced.
