This is the Paul Chek I came to know and love back in 2013. I say this with no disrespect: I'm an HLC 2, IMS3 and the spiritual and metaphysical aspects of this system are invaluable to know and understand but fall on many deaf ears. I kept the deeper "whys" and "hows" from many of my clients because they just didn't seem to be interested in higher order systems, the mind, soul and shadow. However, the upper right, scientific, objective material like this is just crushing to any arguments over exercise "theories" and practices because Paul, you have done ALL of the heavy duty practical work and study long before all of the so called "fitness experts" on social media were probably even born. Ain't nobody out there who can argue with the wizard. Keep making videos like this.

I have always thought that the more complex spiritual/metaphysical stuff wouldn't be very easy to understand for the average person/client but the "hard science" stuff would be more appealing. Cool to see someone with similar sentiments but from actual experience. Thanks for sharing.

I knew about this being one of the specific subjects that Chek Institute and squat university strongly disagreed on, but didn't think I would find material that addressed it this specifically. Wonderful. I sent this to the guy that turned me toward Chek Institute.

@PaulChekLive

You can trust me when I tell you I have addressed many of the very incorrect aspects of what he teaches regarding core conditioning with him directly! Anyone that studies my teachings will immediately see what he is "excluding" from his approach, which is, sadly, dangerous. I could give a long list of the reasons his approach, and his research are incorrect. His study designs are VERY weak! One of the big reasons for his success is that people love simple prescriptions so they don't have to think and don't have to do a skillful evaluation of each individual, which takes a lot of training to know how to do. That's why it takes 4-5 years of training to become a qualified Chek Professional. Additionally, we are each the measure of our own teachings, so next time you see Stuart McGill, ask him to undress for you so you can see the results of his teachings! Much chi, Paul Chek

But it seems that Stu rarely debates online save for that debate with Gray Cook from many years ago in Stanford I believe. Love you guys both!

Not sure about this one. I love Paul, and I actually have a signed copy of How To eat move and be Healthy. Bracing during a heavy squat is absolutely protective of the spine, and it protects you from mechanical breakdown during the ascent. It’s a hard sell to say that bracing for a squat is harmful at all. I don’t know too many high-level powerlifters who do not actively brace when they squat. Squat university generally talks about lifting in the context of Olympic lifters and powerlifters. Love and light Paul! Appreciate your work otherwise though my friend

Love th in depth explanation Paul, just wanted to clarify though - is there anything fundamentally wrong with bracing the core for a squat? Or just that the need to consciously do it is a training deficiency? It seems to be standard protocol in powerlifting from what I understand, plus I've found content from squat university useful in the past so would like to know if in you think this is actually 'bad advice'. Many thanks!

Anything done on a flat surface, with rare exceptions. Without a proper assessment, it is impossible to prescribe the right exercises for everyone. This is exactly why I offer several important core assessment methods and assessments of organ/gland, and internal health in my book "How To Eat, Move, and Be Healthy!" If you genuinely want to learn how to condition the core properly, you will be richly rewarded to study my online training program via the Chek Institute titled "Scientific Core Conditioning." What if you just get very strong on the squat, deadlift and press. Your core is then stronger ? Surely someone who is strong on them lifts has a strong core and stronger system overall compared to someone doing 'core' exercises on a ball or uneven surface ?
@PaulChekLive
@PaulChekLive Жыл бұрын
Hi, If one's inner-unit is functional, then all functional exercises offer balanced conditioning for the inner-unit (stabilization) and outer unit (prime movers). Due to the many factors I mentioned, and more, a functional inner-unit is VERY UNCOMMON among all exercisers and athletes, therefore, training functional movements in this state results in a progressive disparity in strength between the prime movers and inner-unit (stabilizer system), eventually resulting in injury; the most common being an injury to the low back. When the body works correctly, there should not be any need to think about how one activates their core because core activation is both inherent to the motor program developed, and reflex pathways. Love and chi, Paul Chek
