How was it?
@Wisconsin.pikachu3 жыл бұрын
@@jhenke83 pretty good actually, I have had some old Wild Turkey before that was in a ceramic decanter but unfortunately had a cork lid and the cork degraded over time and left sediment in the whiskey. The James beam in the ceramic decanter that I opened had a thread style lid with the foam/plastic seal so the whiskey started out already better. The taste was very good, still had a sweet taste to it with a strong smoke flavor, didn't taste degraded very much as it was in the dark ceramic bottle.

Slurping is very important in tea and coffee tasting, even Starbucks baristas are taught the slurp. I was a bit surprised when I started learning about whiskey tasting and nobody was slurping, but it makes sense. Slurping gets more air into your mouth and forces you to breath in through your nose as you're tasting, then the continued slurp aerates it and lets it cool off, temperature actually has a huge impact on your sense of taste. With whiskey there's no need to cool it, so the extra slurp doesn't do as much.

I've always thought that Talisker is one of those distilleries where there's less of a difference between the 10yo and their 18yo than most. Which makes Talisker an odd choice for such an experiment. The super old stuff can be spectacular though - although even the 25yo is far too expensive for me :-) I'm glad that someone actually opened a bottle of Xpedition though!

Agreed. Talisker 10 is a very solid whiskey in its own right. Usually I don't like even the 12s from a lot of major Scotch distilleries but despite being a mere 10 years, it packs more flavor and subtlety than a lot of 16 year whiskeys out there.

I bought a current Black Label off the shelf to compare. There was a significant difference between the 2 tastes. The much older one was darker in colour, stronger smoky peat taste. Superb drop, very smooth. The younger off the shelf bottle was light amber in colour, mild taste of smoky caramel. Still nice though. The pick was the much older one.
