Well, whilst insurance is important and can be helpful, nothing in the presentation justifies selling crap products with high savings components. The agent has incentive to sell an “income protection” plan only if it pays a decent commission to the agent. And a plan which pays a decent commission to the agent will almost certainly not be a pure insurance plan. It will always have some kind of savings component which greatly inflates the premiums payable for the policy. Ultimately, one must look at the numbers to see whether a plan makes financial sense, bearing in mind the opportunity cost of every dollar and the liquidity risk that comes with savings plans. Usually the client is better off with the pure insurance option.
