MTHFR isn't just pcos or pregnancy kiss or supplementation either. I have homozygous c677T and it's serious, this mutation in general is but especially if the homozygous or A1 or both is what I've found in research to cause this most issues. MTHFR can cause mood swings and comprehension issues mentally so like adhd etc can seem bipolar ,sensitivities even more to dairy etc. (All humans are lactose intolerant to animal milk and animal dairy products. Facts! Just "lactose intolerant" labeled people are more sensitive even, than others already are to it. I had a saddle pulmonary embolism from mthfr mixed with nuba ring birth control. I recommend everyone get tested for mthfr if having clotting issues, mental health , confusion memory issues and more issues too can be symptoms. I just recommend please research and spread the word how serious this mutation is

Hi Melanie, We both couple diagnosed MTHFR homocystinuria(C1286A&C1781G). We had 1 baby lost due to MMA and 2 abortions. Now please suggest medication before trying for next pregnancy

Hi I am a male who is homozygous for MTHFR and heterozygous for factor V Leiden. I have had clots in the past to leg and lungs and am warfarin for life. I had wondered if I got a woman pregnant if MTHFR and/or factor V leiden could cause pregnancy issues such as miscarriage in a baby based on the fact that these two genes cause hypercoagability? I have read online that women themselves who have MTHFR and/or factor V leiden mutations have high risk of pregnancy loss leading to miscarriage. I am not certain if this is true if it's just solely the male carrier themselves that could cause a miscarriage when passing the mutated genes on to the baby. Do you know if this is possible Melanie? Thank you!

I haven’t had a client in this situation, but from a physiological standpoint I wouldn’t expect it to increase miscarriage risk

I am MTHFR heterozygous and Factor V. Leiden heterozygous and had multiple clots DVT’s. Trying to conceive via IVF I am now confused about what supplement to take.. A week ago I started taking methylated folate but CDC site says it does not prevent birth defects like folic acid does? I also feel a little jittery and anxious on it. Should I continue taking it or switch back to folic acid again? There is so much conflicting information out there!

Seeing as this was 3 years ago, I’m sure you figured it out. But I would say stick with methylated. Just because they haven’t done a study on the methylated folate vs folic acid on preventing neural tube defects doesn’t mean the methylated version doesn’t work- it just means they haven’t done a study. If it makes you jittery then take it wayyyy before bedtime. I hope you have a happy story now (because your comment was so long ago!)

Hi Melanie. I have just tested positive for MTHFR and V Leiden mutation. We have been trying to conceive for 2 years now (good organic nutrition and a healthy lifestyle are important to us). I had previously been diagnosed with diminished Ovarian reserve, and my hubby with morphology issues. We started IVF in December/January which got cancelled as I was sent to A&E with a suspected DVT. I was supposed to be on blood thinners due to family history. Could these gene issues cause problems to the baby when conceived, and is pregnancy safe?

They do increase both you and your baby's risks, but that doesn't mean that you can't have a baby....the risks just need to be managed. Your doctors will advise you on how to minimise risks during pregnancy and I would recommend a consultation with a dietitian experienced with MTHFR mutations.

Hi! I have been doing IVF for about a year and have had two early miscarriage after my last two transfers and they recently ran a bunch of tests and I found out I have the compound MTHFR gene mutation. The dr is saying it has nothing to do with my miscarriage I was just wondering if you have any input on what to do differently before my next transfer. Thanks so much this video was very informative!!!

Hi Melanie. I have homozygous c677t. I'm also notably overweight and I can't seem to get the weight off to increase my chances of fertility. How much of an effect can my mutation have on my metabolism
@NourishwithMelanie4 жыл бұрын
There is some emerging evidence to suggest that it may play a role - particularly if you take certain medications. I'd recommend a consultation with a dietitian experienced in this area.
