In June, 2024, we were aboard the NCL Star cruising in Iceland and Norway. A brewing storm forced us to abandon the port of Seydisfjordur so Captain Luigi Gentile could maneuver around - or through - a storm at sea. How'd we fare?

Wow - that was interesting. I will be sailing on the Star next August - hoping and praying that we don't encounter a storm!!! Thank you for sharing your experience.

Recently traveled on the Star and had a similar experience. The last day became a sea day because of weather and it was rough. Captain Luigi brought us safely to our final destination and I appreciated how forthcoming he was with information. It was an enjoyable voyage.

Hey Candice! Agreed! The smaller ports were worth the effort to come via tender boats. I felt so safe with Cap'n Luigi, and the Star did a great job in rough seas.

We will be on the Star next May-June and doing the same itinerary (Iceland-Norway-Denmark), so this was very cool (no pun intended) to watch. It actually answered my questions about what we might expect weather-wise and sea-wise at that time of year. Great job! We're pretty excited for our trip.

Was on this ship in 2006 Alaska.... LOVED IT. This ship was WAY better than NCL Joy.

I was looking to go on this exact cruise but ended up going on NCL Star that sailed from Reykjavík to NYC on July 27th. The only reason I did not go on this one was my son had to attend summer school in June. You are lucky that only one port got cancelled. For us, two Iceland ports were cancelled due to the weather. Captain Luigi told us that we had to get out of the storm that was forming between Iceland and Greenland. :(

That part of the world is fascinating to me at least in part because of its unpredictability, but two missed ports is a lot.

We will be on the Star soon and have an ocean view picture window room on deck 5. We have been wondering if we should upgrade to a balcony. Could you give us your opinion of the room, location and room number you had? Thank you.

We were in 5516. Because we were in cold weather, and “Midnight Sun,” we found we didn’t miss the balcony. The picture window curtain didn’t block out all the light. That said, on a warmer itinerary, honestly I would think about upgrading. My last observation is that deck 5 was very convenient for us, something I’d feared wouldn’t prove true.

(I just replied but it’s not showing so if I reply twice, sorry). For a warmer itinerary, I’d consider a balcony. We were in 5516, closer to the bow. We were pleased to be lower in the ship given the seas. We were near elevators and had no trouble with that.

@@DaveGoesPlaces thanks for your reply. We are also toward the bow of the boat so hearing that you had a good experience is encouraging! Any other tips you might have would be appreciated!

A balcony is WELL worth it. I do every cruise with a balcony.....
