Hello, I am a kart driver from Argentina. Last weekend I bought the engine with the new cylinder from a competitor of mine. Yesterday I compared it on the dyno with my engine with which I took pole position in the 2023 South American championship, the difference was 2hp at the peak. At full acceleration 6300-13500 Rpm: -My engine: 7.239 Sec -New engine: 6,762 sec I think it is a huge difference, don't waste time with the old cylinder. Postscript: the big difference starts at 8,000 rpm. Greetings my friend!!!!

thanks for the feedback. yes I agree the new cylinders are looking more peak and mid range power figures. get one if you haven't already is my recco

I have a 23’ senior engine with the older style cylinder, yesterday I tested my teams 24 engine with this cylinder, and holy smokes I felt it the second I drove out, definitely worth the investment

how much faster did u go on a new cylinder?
@xLucas933 ай бұрын
@@PowerRepublicnot to that extend but the track I tested at there is a long straight and 2 right handlers that are flat, my own engine couldn’t hit the limiter and it stopped at 114 km/h, the 24’ cylinder hit 120 and maxed out just before turning in and kept around 100-50 rpm from limiter just before hitting the brakes, insane difference, lovely bit of kit, should say that my own engine deserves a little love by the engine builder but even in slipstream it only hit 117-18 where it was 120 in clean air

I noticed lambda placement was further along the exhaust than what u u recommended in ur micro lambda installation video. What’s the best location for a rotax?
@PowerRepublic2 ай бұрын
It won’t change a lot IMo. I would jazz it in around 115mm from the end of the pipe if that works on your kart
@RedExions3 ай бұрын
From what I found the difference is nowhere near as big as shown in these tests. From what I found the new cylinder gives less bottom and top whilst giving more mid. Result? Lap times are pretty much the same. If you wanted to have a more accurate experiment, maybe use the same engine for both cylinders and complete the test within the same hour.
@PowerRepublic3 ай бұрын
yeah I think own track the best of the old style motors will still be as good as the 2024 style. but I think that if you had an old plonker before, you could upgrade the cylinder and be on spec with the big boys

Hi. I have a Rotax Max 125cc. 10years old. I woul like to change the engine piston. The dealer where I want to buy the pisto ask me the size of the piston. For that I need to take off the old piston to see the size number. Can I buy any size, it will fit on the cylinder? Many thanks. Keep with you great work sharing a lot of knowlege...
@PowerRepublic2 ай бұрын
the size is normally stamped on top of the cylinder near the reed cage. A, AB or B is the marking you are looking for

I don't know if UK spec engines are more powerful or if my team just has very lucky engines but on the older cylinder we had peak power of about 32hp. That said, the mid range of the new cylinder is still a massive difference

So if you are over the minimum weight by some margin go for Rotax 😉 This was the case already but now even more 💪🏻 Still running an old style exhaust ?
@PowerRepublic3 ай бұрын
yes , IMO heavier the better for Rotax. but new exhaust is a worthy upgrade.

what changes need to be made for rotax to go from open to restricted? gearing, jetting?

up 2 jet sizes and add 2-3 teeth

Derek, quick question. The data you pulled up for the engine from January, is that the same engine you swapped the new cylinder to and Dyno'ed? Same set-up etc etc?
@PowerRepublic3 ай бұрын
Hey Andrew, no sorry it wasn't. we were thin on the ground for dyno data for Rotax engines. it would;d have been awesome to have the time to do a direct comparison from old to new on the same day. as I get some more engines through the dyno I will send out an update. the X30 for interest sake, is still going to be hard to beat with either Rotax set up

any ideas how it would go on the pre evo? could be interesting how it performs

yeah it would work too, but the EVO upgrades IMO would be far superior upgrade over the cylinder alone

@@PowerRepublic yeah that makes sense, probs best to spend the money on saving up for a new engine rather than the cylinder 😂

I would love to see a comparison with a Micro or Mini engine as well. We have a terrible 2024 engine, which especially lack topspeed. We are more than 0,5 seconds behind compared to our 2022 engine on a track where the laptimes are around 31 seconds in the Micro category.

Our 2024 engine is way slower than our 2022 engine. We are driving with the Micro setup, and there is more than 0,5 seconds difference on laptimes at our local track with laptikes around 31 seconds. The data clearly shows a lack of topspeed on the 2024 engine. However, all the other top drivers all run the 2024 engines, so it might be that we just got extremely unlucky with our 2024 engine.
@YoeriKarting3653 ай бұрын
honestly, the difference isn’t that much as it looks at the dyno. My 2023 engine can keep up with the 2024 cylinders. At tracks with a few slow corners in it the difference is not more then 1 or 2 tenths.
@PowerRepublic3 ай бұрын
thanks for the feedback. going to be heaps interesting this weekend at the track when everyone with their engines come out and play

In the U.K. the new cylinder has more mid and some cases less top compared to the old……no ways it 3hp…..laps are no faster this year……you have to do the dyno min Of same day if not same hour….we have had 3hp differences if we run different days on dyno.

yeah it was summer and now its, winter and that is how long its been since the Rotax has been used here. apologies I reckon the new cylinder and the best of the older ones will be much closer in peak HP in my opinion. and on track it will be hard to measure a huge variation one way or the other. the driver being the biggest variations in my opinion
