This is my favorite Tudor in the current catalogue, it's absolutely badass. My internal struggle is between a badass WoE style Pelagos FXD GMT and the ultimate GMT king, the GMT-Master II. Two vastly GMTs in different price brackets and use-cases, but absolutely love both of them.
@TimeandtidewatchesАй бұрын
The Tudor has a much more military/tool feel while the modern Rolex GMT Master II definitely skews more elegant/cosmopolitan. It would be very hard for me to turn down the prospect of a pepsi at retail, but the Tudor does not have waiting list games and is half the price 😂 -Z

I’m lucky enough to have both the FXD GMT and a 16710 Pepsi GMTII. Those two watches alone would be a perfect two watch collection for a traveller. The only thing I’d miss is a timing bezel, so a Pelagos 39 for a third watch would be ideal. I’m lucky to have that watch as well, so why do I still have about 50 other watches?!? Aargh! This is great. I’ve loved the Red Bull FXD but the strap “tail” was too long and it really bummed me out. Yes I could swap out the strap but the strap is beautiful and a real part of that watch (I didn’t mind the Velcro). I was hoping this one might work for me and have been excited to check it out. The only 2 True GMTS that you can find under 5k are the Tudors and the Longines. They are both exceptional brands and you can’t really go wrong. Congrats on the new studio!
@TimeandtidewatchesАй бұрын
This strap definitely solved the “tail” issue for me, so I would 💯 recommend checking this one out. I would also think it is possible to get this strap style separately for another FXD model if you prefer. It would mean paying the price of the watch plus the cost of the strap as well. -Z
@zdniceАй бұрын
@ I figured as much however, it’s probably just a psychological thing for me, but I felt like buying a watch and then immediately having to replace the strap because it didn’t fit diminished the watch because I was not able to wear it as it was intended. Especially with that tudor FXD, which comes on such a beautiful blue strap. But with this new one, if I can wear the strap that it comes with then, putting it on another strap at some point even just to change it up won’t make me feel like I’m not getting the total value out of the purchase. But I’m a nut, so these are the things that go through my mind.

I would take the FXD to the Exp II as sadly wearing a Rolex has it's issues now (I don't wear mine anymore and they used to be daily wearers😢), but I think the value proposition is a consideration too.....with the change you could have a few adventures. 👍

I prefer the Tudor FXD GMT Zulu over the Rolex due to pricing plus the FXD can tell a 3rd time zone
@richardwarren2024Ай бұрын
Zach - you make an interesting observation about Tudor pricing. But i think you need to follow that threat further. Rolex is clearly moving upmarket, and one day in the near future all of their watches will start at $10,000 - $15,000 retail USD. Rolex will, in the meantime, be pushing Tudor into the space Rolex formerly occupied, so we can expect Tudors to one day retail for $7,100 to $9,999 USD.
@TimeandtidewatchesАй бұрын
Tudor hiking its pricing would be a devastating evolution, but one I do not think they will do - a GMT Master II is far more expensive and Tudor has not rapidly hiked pricing to keep pace. If more expensive Tudor watches come out, it will be due to an increased usage of precious metal. Maybe I am being too optimistic though…. You are making a very important point here though - Z
@richardwarren2024Ай бұрын
@ Thank you for your analysis, Zach. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you as a collector, and as a journalist. Keep up the excellent work.
@TimeandtidewatchesАй бұрын
Very kind of you to say Richard, I really appreciate it. One other thing I will add here is that is Tudor more concerned with keeping pace on pricing with Rolex, or undercutting Omega and conflating Omega versus Rolex conversations with Omega versus Tudor? This has come up more with both being METAS watches. -Z
@richardwarren2024Ай бұрын
@ that’s another excellent point. You can see with the move to METAS that Tudor is definitely undercutting Omega with similar quality, and excellent designs at fair prices. I’m a big Omega fan, but it’s undeniable that Tudor is offering quite a bit for much less. Compare the new Seamaster pricing to the Black Bay Monochrome. Similar looks, but one is much less.

@uncles2000Ай бұрын
Unless you’re a Rolex only fan and or need something a little more dress, in a tool watch, the FXD GMT is a better value than the Explorer II. Obviously one’s like of the look and how it wears on the wrist needs to be factored in. Not everyone can rock a 42mm with a bezel that size. The price point is fare for the brand, complication, movement and finish. Longines Spirt Zulu time is a better comparison, IMHO, but has a more Explorer II vibe.
@TimeandtidewatchesАй бұрын
Longines/Tudor are two champs of the price tier 100%. But Tudor has an edge when it comes to case thickness though.
@Frakaphoto26 күн бұрын
the GMT TIMEX expedition north is a same titanium alternative for 500 usd. Of course Tudor mechanism is more noble than Seiko but both are super robust . Tudor is a nice watch but not for everybody as the fxd add some limitation wich are for people wearing it also above flight combinaison or dive . Using it in city is absurde and you will drop it with the strap gliding in the fxs lugs. Sorry you set it wrongly. orange is UTC/zulu constantly. local home is white. then set the bezel to the time zone ( +1, +2, +3 … or -1, -2,-3… at the noon triangle marker and the utc needle will show you the local third time ( destination).
@hansakselos4636Ай бұрын
The height of 12.7mm is the same as on the OG FXD Blue and Black 3 hand’er… Which is wild as this GMT FXD uses the same movement as the Pepsi - which is 14.5mm and not the movement from the Coke which is 12,8mm.
@JimWestrichАй бұрын
Thanks for the vid. Great content. And I agree with you. Would also pick this one (possess the FXD MN, though) and get a little dressier watch with a bracelet on top, instead of the Explorer II. For my small wrist folks your AD can order you a shorter version of the velcro strap for the other FXD’s that fits much better. If you have a good relationship with your AD they’ll probably do it for no extra charge if you bought the watch from them.
@TimeandtidewatchesАй бұрын
Was not aware! That would immensely help, but whether short/regular I think I would always prefer a pin/buckle over velcro. What do you think? -Z
@Ghosty_XVIАй бұрын
@ I really like the velcro mainly for function so I can really dial in that perfect fit that I want but this new pin/buckle looks so clean! Another small “hack” which might be just me but I think the velcro actually looks much better if you put it on backwards and have the metal pass through at 6 o clock instead of 12. Watches of Espionage makes a great velcro strap that seems like it was designed exactly for the FXD that I typically use.
