Sir, I just wanted to say thank you for ALL you do. The way you share your knowledge and experience of bowling is awesome. You, Luke, and Ron are absolutely the best at presentation and explanation of bowling material. I've been out of the game for 14+ years and have found my way backnint he last 2 months or so. I've learned so much from the 3 of you about the today's game It's truly mesmerizing. Your efforts and hard work are appreciated my friend. Continued blessings and keep up the excellent work 🙏

Using one of those shelf teaser/ cut in half balls might also be a good idea for a visual. If you can also show the lefty perspective tumble/roll, it would be greatly appreciated!

That was very informative and the animation was helpful to understand ball roll. Although your diagrams reminded me of cell structures in my biology class 😉

Thanks. When you let a physics teacher (me) investigate this it's confusing. I had a ball in my car, the Gaulet when i had an unexpected hospital stay - it had cracked from 3 days in the heat. So i cut it open to see the core and how it was laid out. It only gave me a rough idea. I now have 3 sets of balls, same ball 3 layouts, 2 symmetrical and one asymmetrical. I just know the feel of the layouts in my hand and at my wrist.

So if a bowler primarily wants to play from the extreme outside, down and in, and wants the ball to become stable very quickly and just float across the lane, would a pin close to pap, or even a pin in pap (Axis Weight) be the best bet?

I am like Tom Smallwood in that I have very little flare. I think it was Randy Peterson once talking about Smallwood could not change his layout because the ball would roll over the thumb hole. Well that is what my plastic spare does often. Is that because of the layout?

I can’t get ball to hook for nothing I’m using a hammer ghost. Monday I get the new hammer widow red an black one. I wish I could hook.

Throw it like a yo yo.. Release thumb first and spin it off your fingers in a slight rotation to the left with your thumb pointing up after release and make sure your hand is under the ball and not on top

Slow down, let it roll. A fairly new bowler had that ghost drilled very aggressively, but it might as well been a house ball. One of the kids coaches worked with him and it was a totally different ball. First he was proud of getting above 20 mph and releasing on top. Slowed him down and getting him under the ball worked. But league just started and he's developed a habit of doing something with his hand trying to increase the hook. Just relax and it will happen.

Good explanation. I truly can visualize the ball getting to it’s stable roll out phase better now. The only problem I have is getting someone to explain when and why I wold want it to roll early or late. I have heard bowlers say the ball rolled out early and lost it’s energy through the pins. And I assume their is a relationship between the oil pattern and the ball phases. Just no one has ever explained it clearly yet. When do you want it to hook early or late?

I feel dumber watching this. This is the one part of bowling that I don’t even act like I know. I just drill all my bowling balls the same and throw them down the lane.
