Picked up the limited time Nintendo Switch demo. I’m hooked! I get further each time. This time I got an alchemy station and got pecked to death by a bird on stilts. I killed one and stole its egg (but not without some battle scars). I later died challenging another. The damage radius catches me off guard, it’s like I’m standing a bit to the side of the bird and she still gets me by pecking downward. Nothing I won’t be able to figure out though, I’m decent at baiting hounds to bite thin air.

I love this game's journey, we can really see the developers falling more and more in love with the game and the community. I also love that they adapted the kind of game to fit the playstyle better. It would feel so frustrating and unfair to die and lose a save that you spent a lot of real life money on. That would definitely make me anxious about adventuring and I wouldn't take as many risks as I do now and that kind of defeats the purpose of the game. Even tho the game is definitely past it's peak, it's still thriving and people still have fun playing it so for me this is one of those games that are timeless like minecraft, mario and sonic. It's crazy like it all started as a free to play money grab and ended up like this

I play this game and felt the uncertainty and meaninglessness of life in a small time. This game teaches me that, even after all those negative aspects, you must stand again and try to build your empire. You can't possibly do all the adventures in life and still survive. Despite that you must look after them to enjoy a small time you are spending on this planet. In game you can cheat though, but even after that game wins again... I defeated Maxwell once and when I got tied to that chair and reborn as Maxwell... it.. the feeling was different. I achieved everything and still I was in the same pit. No other game gives you this sense. No winning is final no defeat is fatal. (Unless you die ofcourse.)

Good for Klei! There's something to be said there too about blindly following your own vision and ignoring your player bases' requests and ideas, I remember back in the day when I was obsessed with the game, we were practically begging Klei to add a multi-player mode, they strongly declined, and practically promised it would NEVER happen because that's against their own vision of the game, they wanted it to be a single-player experience or something like that, they even put up a page on their own website disclosing this information and told us to just stop trying, which was a bummer at the time to say the least.. because after all we knew what we wanted and what we would think would be fun. Look at em now, can't say I'm much surprised, I knew it would be a hit if it went multi-player haha, everyone did! except for Klei at the time I guess. My brother got me on the solo mobile version of the game, we got laptops and we have over 200 hours playing together and I only got it due to the free copy, this game is integrated into my early life and I love how much they keep updating it

Ran across DS on a web browser back in 2011 and said, this game is going to be huge. I shared it and my friends and co-workers hated it, didn't wanna play. Now ALL of them play and I say...see...toldja so. I know games and fashion.

Loved it! Great video! I really enjoy learning about the development of games using this kind of narrative, it's very enjoyable. :)

I want the players and don't starve to be able to make your own custom level and you know, don't starve together. I just think that would be cool. One final update letting us make our levels for don't starve single player and just another update for don't starve together 7:17

Such an wonderfully crafted game. I went into it blind years ago. It was a love/hate with the figure it out brutality of it all. The art style and theme of it also very appealing to me. I dont think Ive managed to survive longer than 25 days, but I keep coming back to this one.

I love how the Hamlet DLC is basically the original concept for the Don't Starve

I love Don't Starve. The whole game, the art style, the progression, everything around it just oozes of character. So I always held Klei Entertainment in high regard. Your video is great. The story went pretty much as I expected from what I know from the game, but I still very much liked to hear it. Cheers!

Thanks for reviving some of my good memories with this video 👍 I'm not a fan of survival games but I love this game , and I think it's because of the sense of curiosity , it's interesting design and the horror elements and overall how mysterious the game looks made me replay the game as much as I can so that I would understand the lore and the story more considering how little we are told about what's happening

I think the communities continuous pressure on Klei to consider a multiplayer version of the original DS should also be taken into consideration when viewing the multiplayers origins.

Amazing how they still managed to make millions off cosmetics in the game.

I like how they have a free copy of don’t starve together, so you could play whit a friend who didn’t want or could get the actual game, and not just wait alone until someone joined

Your videos on Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley and Dont Starve are some of my favourite, really interesting! I'd like to some day see you cover Oxygyn Not Included (also by Klei) or Cuphead, like people have been suggesting in other comments :)

8:52 *No amount of digital trinketry will make it so* This just shows that Kevin isn't thinking about how other people play and enjoy things. People probably were having fun playing the game... and then they lost *EVERYTHING* and felt defeated. Not to mention "The knowledge that they gained from playing" isn't guaranteed. Like if you misinterpret the signals the devs are putting down, or don't notice them entirely then you can easily come away not knowing anything new, or worse yet coming away with false beliefs. Having things/abilities that allow you to skip some of the early grinding and get back to where you were before allows people to have more freedom to explore....also don't they have unlockable characters now?! ...and farms are total bullshit XD

9:27 When I was first shown this game on a mobile phone, I said it looked a whole lot like Tim Burton style. This video is actually the first thing, that I've seen since that mobile app (around 6-7 yrs ago), to confirm that thought. I'm happy 😊

The most important thing I learned here is that if a game feels like a hollow cash-grab, it's probably because that's literally what it was intended to be. I'm very happy that DS ended up being too good for that.

don't starve is actually my childhood game. i played the beta when i was 11, and i fell in love. the style, gameplay, and story got me playing a lot. these days tho, i'm overwhelmed by the new things and characters that they added, so i'm learning again lol

It really is amazing seeing the evolution of the art style go from Hanna-Barbera to straight-up Tim Burton.
