It's so amazing how much dragon ball has done for so many different people on this planet. Even if you don't watch the show or even like dragon ball, everyone born after 1980 knows the name "Goku", and many people from before that era too. All the people who it has touched, we can always go back no matter what state the franchise is in and find something to enjoy and connect with each other about. Akira Toryiama has created an entire culture and I think that is beautiful. Dragon Ball has saved my life too. In many, many ways.

DBZ introduced me into the genre. I was so close to visiting Japan one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit the place that inspired artists like Toriyama San. R.I.P.

Me growing with a disability and my parents being divorced since I was 3 or so and Dragon Ball and gaming being my escapism from reality I can 100% relate. Be save brother I appreciate this type of content, it show’s that instead of fighting about what divides us we should stand by each other with what unites us.

I feel you grew up in Mexico with a single mom always working. Me as the oldest I had to help my mom with my little siblings. I was cooking full meals by 9 years old and taking take of 2 little kids that were always trying to killed each other lol and the best part of my day was sitting in front of the TV to watch DBZ at 5pm in canal 5. I know there's better animes out there but DB was soo important to me growing up. DB will always have a special part in my heart.

The first ten minutes of this, sound scarily like what _I_ went through. Suffice it to say, I learned a LOT of dangerous things, just to get by back then. I know better than most, how dangerous it is. The tremors, I especially understand. Because my nerves were SHOT from the constant conflict and stress, for YEARS. I basically had nervous tics that took FOREVER to get rid of. It's hard, making it through the ass end of that kind of thing, and getting thrown into the thick of something else afterwards- without wanting to be the worst version of yourself, and _use_ what you learned. It's dark, depressing, SERIOUSLY ALARMING, and worst of all, completely unavoidable. It puts a darkness in you. ...so I'm glad something lighthearted got you out of that. I leaned into it, but that isn't for everyone. Or almost anyone, even.

Same man,same...Dragon Ball gave me so much inspiration, motivation, hope and the will to push myself and to never give up...even though I was suffring from depression and having a hard time ever since being forced to go with my family into a different country because if a war in my country...and having gone to the different country's school wasn't easy since the people born there could do whatever they want with others from the other countries, but the ones from the other countries weren't basically allowed to defend themselves, because if they did...it'd always be seen as if they started it all and then be deported...no matter if you were a legal immigrant or not...we were legal because we had everything needed to leave our country during the war...anyhow I've watched DragonBall ever since I was 4 and the episode that played the 1st time I'd watched, was the Gohan's training with Piccolo...and him going on an adventure...also I was kinda lucky to have gotten a broken PS2 from my cousin later for my birthday to play the DBZ games he didn't want...and having known Dragon Ball for that long just stuck with me and still IS a major part of me,since it built me up when noone could... Either way, wish you the best, hope you all have a wonderful day✌️

You talk about how DB was great escapism for you. There's a great quote from J.R.R Tolkien that goes something like this. "If a man is imprisoned, can you scorn him for wanting to get out? And if he cannot escape, should all he talks about be walls and jailers? And just because he is imprisoned, it does not make the world outside him any less real."

I work for the school system and the way some places treat kids with behavior issues is disgusting. One of the schools I interned at had a room they would send kids to that is just like you described where it was almost like solitary confinement - basically 4 walls and just a small window on the front wall. Thankfully they ended up getting rid of that room by the time I actually started working, but I’m sure those places are still out there. I’m sorry you had to go through that. So many adults see children as their actions, when their actions are just a function of what they’re experiencing at home.

Damn... we had damn near the exact same childhood 😅 Multiplication/division in 1st grade, reading at a high school level by 3rd grade despite constant domestic abuse at home, depression by 8yo, constant fights at school, living with grandma/uncle from 10-14yo, school is indoctrination, work is the same. I got kicked out at 18 because I didn't go to college... An undermotivated person who's secretly an overachiever. I was ashamed of being smarter than my peers, I felt guilty and wanted to be "normal" so badly. "Take the pain and turn it into power," I used to think to myself, as I tried not to cry on the walk through my elementary school doors. I'm a good person because the DB franchise inspired me. Goku didn't let his origin ruin him, he forgave everyone, he never took much too seriously. I'm 28 now, and I still try to be "pure of heart." I'm proud of you, Mike. You overcame. And I'm proud myself for the same.

I feel bad for you man. I was born with a genetic mutation that rendered me disabled when I reached my teens. It was brutally difficult having to see my current relationship at the time, just fade away slowly, as I could barely walk; and was stuck essentially just bound to a chair. Chronic Erythromelalgia, the Primary variant of it. I was basically just being tested on, to see if there was really any way to combat it, and because of this, I’ve been put on enough medications that could make a dealer blush. I’m currently in my 20s, and I’m slowly just learning to cope with it. This video hits kind close to home with me, as DB was essentially the only thing that kept me going too. I already know dealing with depression and anxiety is hard to deal with man. If it makes you feel any better, I’m one of those viewers who listens in the background while I’m doing stuff, so that means I let the video play out *ALL* the way! 😂 I’m glad you’re still here, as you’ve helped me in more ways than one. 💜

Man as a christian leaning into a bit of agnosticism I always tell people that I rather be a good and empathetic person, than a good christian because if you are a good person you will act according to Jesus’s teachings. Also I always tell my friends that don’t let religion control your life but if it gives you peace and if it gives you hope go for it. I have people in my life that were on a very destructive path in their lives and religion and God gave purpose to their lives and are healthy people now. So yeah even if I disagree with some people view of christianity, even if I my self don’t believe everything in the scriptures, I will be grateful for those people whose lives are better now. And you Mike, you keep doing your thing, you are a good dude.

As someone who watched you in around 2015 almost everyday then dropped off until recently when you rebooted your channel I want to say you are welcome and I'm glad you are making videos again. Watching this video reminded me of alot that happened in my life in the past couple of years. In 2018 I graduated college and at the time I wanted to work in IT. I worked in IT for about a year and I was laid off and my whole world felt like it was crumbling down. I was in my mid 20s and I had to move back in with my mom and work at grocery store because I couldn't find another IT job. I was humiliated and depressed. In early 2020 I joined the US Army because I was unhappy with the person I was and I wanted to change and I knew the army would force me to change. Both my grandfathers fought in ww2 in the yugoslav army so it seemed natural I would join anyway and I wanted to feel like I have done something with my life. I became a CBRN specialist MOS 74D and I made the rank of sergeant. I also had two deployments to the middles east. I went to a non combat deployment to kuwait and then I had a combat deployment to Iraq. Kuwait was just boring most of my days was just working a 0630- 1700 doing busy work. Iraq was a nightmare, I can't go into details but we got attacked damn near everyday for a few months at one point. Most of the time it wasn't to bad but it got scary at times. I will say I am grateful I never had to take another human being's life even though I've been thrusted into situations where I might have had to. I am about to leave active duty army and go back to the civilian world while continuing to serve in the Reserves. I am proud of my accomplishments and I learned a lot. In these past four years it felt like everything about my old life is drifting away. My family members are getting older and some of my old friends ive lost contact with. That ate away at me, there was a time where I would see old pictures of myself when I was younger and it would feel like I was looking at a stranger. Seeing my parents grow older and look more and more like senior citizens added to that. Watching your videos again is sort of helping me connect to how my old life was. Reconnecting to some of my older friends helped alot, To pick up where I left off and to move forward. I learned many things in the past 4 years. But the most valuable thing I learned was this. No matter how dark things may seem always move forward. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you for this video Mike I really do appreciate it. When you said that you just wanna help people that hit me because so do I. Trying to make a positive impact on other's lives isn't as important anymore on the internet. It's a bout drama and trends. My mom died last year that pushed me to Jesus more. If he's taking care of her why not give him the praise. I also quit my job last August after working there for 10 years. I hated it and it was a endless cycle of bad labor practices and tyranny to be honest. I've felt so much better since then and found some peace and I've been going to the gym for over a month now. Take care man and I hope you can reach each goal you set.

Locking kids up holding them down for no reason I was actually sent that to that school because I was beat up so they sent me to the school for kids that beat people up but what it did teach me was how to fight you get beaten up enough and eventually you learn to beat back.

I can relate to much of what you said. Good thing you didn't tried to "finish it". At 17 I nearly did it. Then I understood I had a problem. Back then no one here talked about bullying and depression isn't still fully understood by the majority. The fact I never got involved with drugs and that I'm too stubborn might have saved me. Man, you overcame things many people died trying or didn't had the strength to try. You turned the hell you life was into something worthy of (self) respect! You don't need to succeed in any career or have a great channel. You got more challenges in life than an average person have and in one way or another you dealt with it. We often have something that takes us out of the hole DB you your case, music in mine, but we are doing the lifting. These things are important, vital, they are something we can grab to climb out. But won't work if we don't pull ourselves out. God keep you on your journey. Never forget Him.

A lot of this hits home, although the people jumping me were my own brothers and even my dad... It's a long story, but I can relate completely. Escapism. I'm 30 and have spent the past 2 years essentially very suicidal. I stumbled down the Dragon Ball world again in late 2022 when things got *really* grim. Whenever I'd think about giving up, I'd think about Gohan after his arm was taken out. He was in such a tough place, but he succeeded. With Goku's help of course, something I wish I could relate to as a kid, but still, I think about that kid who just lost his dad, thinks he lost half his ki, and thinks that everything is over but ultimately succeeds.

I wish we could have been friends during your childhood. I was the kid that beat up bullies. Id say 95% of the fights ive been in were defending other kids who couldn't. It really hurts me when i see someonee helpless to stand up for themselves. You either curl up into a ball and take it or you stand and bang. It either turns you into a beast or a punching bag. This video really blessed me to watch! I am a long time DBZ fan, and I watched your videos heavily when I was around 11-13 y/o. You've always been one of my favorite DBZ tubers! Now I'm 21 and revisiting your channel consistently over the past month or so. It has been so good to see you still going strong and uploading such quality content all these years later. I really resonated with the last bit about your faith. It made me that much more connected to you and want to continue to watch even more, as a fellow believer in Christ. It was funny because I literally told God as I was watching you tell your testimony, "Lord, I hope he is able to find you," and you mentioned it at the end!! That was such a joyful surprise to me, and I'm thankful to Him for helping you get through your challenges. You are such an intelligent, likeable, kindspirited, and entertaining person from the capacity I've been familiar with you online, and I pray that God continue to keep you and guide you on your journey. Continue to keep Him first in your life and you'll continue to see growth like never before. I pray that He show you his face like never before at this stage in your life, and am looking forward to seeing how he uses you mightily in this community!!🙏🏾

I'm glad you feel comfortable enough to open up about yourself. It sucks you had to grow up like that and brave of you to let it all out, you're incredibly admirable for the sheer determination it takes to keep pushing when life seems at its lowest. In all honesty you've got me rethinking some of my current decisions in life. With that said you're a fine example of what everyone should strive to be like. I've seen too many people prone to just giving up or just caring about themselves undermining others in the process (mainly at work). You're one awesome guy, glad I watch you.

Geez, i never knew you went through all that man. I felll bad and sorry you went through a terrible time. In these circumstances you've turned out alright. For the people in your life that judt stood there and let it happen, they're just as bad as the bullies. Keep your head and move forward.

Had an upbringing comparable to yours, not the same but still quite the struggle, for me doing ok or normal is seen as a massive win already, being normal with a bad start is almost a statistical anomaly so be happy about yourself, you are a well spoken person who clearly has mental capacities and emotional intelligence which is kinda what i like about your content, the 2000nd video of dragon ball speculating about something isn't gonna surprise me much, however when it's night and i need some calm mildly mentally engaging content i just watch your videos to relax, i was massively surprised a while ago when i realized that you didn't stop uploading but any trace of your channel was wiped from my feed for a long while , absolutely bizzarre

I've had a similar relationship with dragon ball, throughout my whole life its the only thing that's been there with me no matter what. Lately things have been even harder since Toriyama left us, but your video has helped me get some perspective back. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I've been personally leaning more and more towards content creation myself, and I think I'm gonna start actually researching and trying to put maybe a twitch channel or something, wish me luck.

Hey Mike, I'm circling back to this after your video game video. I don't know if you'd be as into music, but Dirt Poor Robbins just dropped their new album Firebird. Amazing concept album overall, but the title track particularly made me think of you and your story. I just thought I'd share that in the event it might resonate with you and inspire hope for tomorrow. I'm praying for the best, and looking forward to what's to come in the future. Lol
