totally - Duran Duran were the zeitgeist atmosphere between 1981 and 1986 in pop culture. If DD were that popular now they would be saturing social media etc. Its a differnt world now, to then. That type of fame and status I dont think it exists now.

Recently I walked into our favorite breakfast place wearing my Duran Duran shirt. The girl said "we don't get many Duran Duran fans in here". I replied "That's a shame". She then walked over to the Spotify tablet and put on "Girls on Film". The staff and other customers started moving and singing along with the song. It was a great Saturday breakfast moment.

I’m 57, DURAN DURAN I have been a fan since 1981. There style was Newro or New-Romaric. New Wave clubs played Duran Duran. I have all the vinyl albums up to date and a collection of DD 12” records. Studio tracks recorded in London (rare). Merchandise Duran Duran buttons, Duran Duran bandanas, blue moon on Monday flag, limited edition programs of Duran Duran tour in Japan. (Rare) stickers and in 1983 autographs signed on Duran Duran albums at Tower Records in L.A. by Duran Duran and Richard Blade from KROQ. Duran Duran sold out tickets in Arenas and Coliseums. DD was huge and extremely talented in music. BEST! Band ever just legendary. ❤️

"Managed to stay relevant during the 90s" is certainly an overstatement. Duran Duran 1993, aka The Wedding Album, was by and large the only big success they had that decade, and prior to its release John Taylor was even considering leaving the band because of the commercial failure of their previous two albums. However, the rest of their output in the 90s wasn't nearly as successful, and it wasn't until 2004's Astronaut album that would see them being popular on the charts again.

When Duran Duran first came on the scene, I didn't really take them seriously because they seemed like nothing more than a flash-in-the-pan pretty boy pop outfit. Unknown to me at that point was that their then-guitarist Andy Taylor could really rock when he wanted to go for a heavier sound. Come 1985, the debut album by the Duran Duran spin-off group Power Station became one of my favorite records of the decade. Then in the early 90's when Duran Duran made their comeback with their great Wedding album, I became a fan and even went to see them in concert. I also really like some of their other songs around this period such as "Skin Trade" and "I Don't Want Your Love."

under the name Godley & Creme in 1981 those producers had made a groundbreaking video for their hit single CRY but were originally half of very successful 1970s art rock band 10CC whose biggest hit was I’m Not in Love in 1975 which had used incredible tape looping techniques & not digital equipment which it’s backing vocal sounds created by but wasn’t invented at the time . Clever guys. Older British or European folk would appreciate a video about 10CC no doubt but I’m unsure of their popularity in America . 😁👍🐢❤️

I've been a Duran fan since I was in 8th grade. Got to meet Simon, Nick and John in Chicago in 1987. John and Nick were lovely. Simon was kind of an ass, lol.... Nick was also TINY IRL. I have seen them in concert 5 times in 4 different US States (Chicago, Dallas, OK and OH). They will forever be the cosmic soundtrack to my teen years. First time I saw them I was 15, last time I've seen them so far I was in my late 40's. I never got to see all 5 of the original members, and have never seen Andy, although he was my favorite. I had tickets to see him play solo in Chicago when I was in high school, and he canceled. He was supposed to play a concert with him and the Psychedelic Furs. Still got to see the Furs, have never seen Andy live. Hopefully, some day, I'll get that chance before he becomes really ill. I even saw The Power Station on tour, and Andy didn't appear and play live for that, either! Elusive little bugger!

1984-85, in Secondary School, while my schoolmates were going bonkers over Judas, Maiden and Scorpions, or some ballads and Menudo for the girls, for me DD was THE band. That's because, while they were still kicking footballs and dressing up dolls, I was listening to the radio and reading, lol. I was very attentive of the first half of the 80's regarding Music; we didn't have cable, so no Mtv of course (that was rich people in Mexico City, not Guadalajara), so what we got was half-hour or full hour shows playing videos, DD's were like super-productions, before Michael Jackson did those looooooooong intro cinematic videos. It was artsy, it was rythmic, but not silly nor 'too soft' like Spandau Ballet and other bands. Plus John created THE best bass line of the whole decade, as well. Which as a bassist matters to me a lot.

It should be pointed out that there are at least 4 versions of their first album. The first one has the slow song To The Shore and the US re-release adds a new one-off single, Is There Something I Should Know. There are also some editions with a different track order and one with a longer "Night" version of Planet Earth.

I have a very early U.S. CD release of the first album, which lists "Is there something I should know?" on both the back cover and the disc itself but plays exactly as the original U.K vinyl release; which fortunately means no "Is there something I should know?"!
