Hmmm.... mixed feelings. I grew up with this show as a kid and I bought the series after Dawn Wells passed away. It's great to watch it again but as an adult, you see things a bit different. While I'm glad the show didnt have a whole bunch of sex references, it's too bad that it wasn't above racist stereotypes. Good fun, sure. Purely clean? Depends on who you ask. I'll always love Gilligan but I don't think it would work too well today. Being able to build so many things on an island but not be able to fix a hole in a boat would only work for so long for today's TV audiences.

Gilligan's Island was one of my all-time favorite shows, although I was only a baby when it originally ran. I used to love watching it on TV after school in the 70s and have the entire series on DVD now. Most of the actors may be gone now, but as long as Gilligan's Island is still on TV, they'll live forever.

Never forget running into Tina Louise in NYC , I saw her walking out of a building somewhere in the 50’s and 5th Ave , I actually recognized her from a block and a half away and as she got closer I could hardly believe my eyes: dressed to the T there she was , I said hi Tina and in her velvety voice said hello back and we both kept on walking ... made my day!

I was a young girl in elementary school when Gillian Island first came on. I'm now 61. I just love, love, loved this show! My family of 4 would gather at the kitchen table for dinner . Dad would 1rst put on the NBC-channel 5 news and then switch to WGN for Gillian Island. I enjoy how we laughed and talked together. This was one of my favorite childhood memories. I nevet knew there were Gillian Island games. I was surprised and sadden to learn that Dawn Wells died last December of covid. I am glad to hear that Ginger is doing well. Memories of her make me smile often...She said back in 2019, it amazed her that Gilligan's Island was still so popular, but loved it when folks called her 'Mary-Ann'...and now, she lives on, every day on tv...

The two from the movies, the original Ginger played by Kit Smythe, the original professor and the original Mary-Ann named Bunny who were in the original pilot episode don't count. I watched the show every day after school for many years. I practically had all the lines memorized. It bugged my sister that I watched it every day, but back then (before cable) there were four channels available in my small town and it was either Gilligan or soap operas. Years later, my best friend did some legal work for Dawn Wells when she was publishing a cook book. I was set to meet her through him on one of my visits to LA, but unfortunately she had to take a last minute business trip and I never had another chance. I actually broke the news to my buddy when I heard she passed away and he was quite saddened when I told him. He said she was a lovely lady, quite personable, and he always enjoyed working with her. Interestingly, she was the only actor to get residuals from the show. At the time it was on the air, her husband insisted on residuals being written into her contract, which EP Sherwood Schwartz agreed to. She didn't make nearly the amount of money that Schwartz did from the show, but she did pretty well.

God doesn’t call anyone. Believing in an imaginary being in the sky is caveman crap. You die when you die. There is no rhyme or reason for it. Humans are always trying make sense of things that they either don’t understand or when the answer isn’t as heartwarming as they’d like it to be. We can never grasp that we have nothing to do with it. We need some sort of comfort in scary situations. Death isn’t scary. It’s the one singular thing that people can never gasp- death is the end. There is nothing after it. After you die, you no longer exist. We are so afraid of death that we have to pretend that life, in some shape or form, continues after death (as in afterlife). It doesn’t.

This is why Gunsmoke enjoyed a twenty year run. All thanks to Gilligan's Island getting the axe. I didn't like the fact that the show didn't have a proper series finale which would've been where they got rescued. That's the way it should've been. Sherwood Schwartz should've written & produced a special episode that aired right before the start of the new season in which they finally get rescued & live happily ever after.

In reading Sherwood Schwartz's book about the making of the series, it said that she wanted too much money to reprise her role as Ginger. More than the others were getting, & Mr. Schwartz just couldn't do that because in the first place, she was no more important than the others, & in the second place, he couldn't afford it because it would've put the movie over budget, which probably would've wrecked the whole production, I would think.
