The great difference between H and MM and Sophie and Edward is that Sophie and Edward are kind-hearted and focus on the needs of others and the good of the family, and they don't lie or denigrate others to lift themselves up. They aren't arrogant, fake, or selfish. They aren't self-serving evil people.

I once criticized Edward in Royalty Magazine but later apologized for it. I knew trouble was brewing when I heard that Meghan Markle had basically rejected Sophie as a model to emulate as she integrated (or should I say ingratiated) herself into her role as Duchess of Sussex. Sophie has been a remarkable mainstay ever since I started following the monarchy in 1997. I like how Mr. Eden notes how Sophie's outfits never outshone her mother-in-law The Queen. She's always seemed to be remarkably willing to fulfill the duties expected of her, never complaining, but embracing her role as a very background figure. I'm thrilled to see how she and Prince Edward have now stepped up as The Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh. I thought that the loss of the Sussexes meant the end for the monarchy, but with Edward & Sophie stepping up to fill the gap, I think it's hard to imagine the monarchy going anywhere.

I absolutely love this video. Thank you! It was wonderful watching Sophie and Edward grow in maturity. Yes, you make mistakes and make atonement. Many don't realize that atonement means walking a walk that proves your stability and sincerity. It doesn't mean you get to say you're sorry and all will be well again. It means you say you're sorry and pay contrition. This might take months or even years to bring back your reputation. The Royal family has given our generation great examples of this wonderful fullness of forgiveness. I think highly of Charles, Camila, Sophie and Edward. These four were part of a new youthful world of carefree thinking and wanting to change traditions. This was a difficult path to navigate. They have come through as shining examples of building a life of service and genuine love for their country.

How can Sophie and Edward be compared to Harry and Meghan??? He was the 4th child of the Queen....so far down the line that he really wasn't going to be a Working Royal, he chose a small wedding, wasnt a big tough guy, so military was not really his forté and so he tried to break out into something he could do to find work.. ... but he Never purposely bagged his family, never told lies about people in his family, always respected his Queen...and when they realised that it was all going downhill, they just politely went quiet...and when needed, they have come out and actually done an excellent job of Working Royals. Maybe the position of Queen or King might be the first born, but the Spare and the Working Royals, should be selected by the family, as they can tell who the next brightest and one's that can and will do the hard study to be good at the role. Being tricked by fakers is hardly her fault..it is disgusting that this was done to her!! And Edward was hardly a 'brat' when he asked what they thought, several times, and really got nothing from all the people in the room!! I would have left too!! Oh and Richard, MM was given the Queens blanket!! How can this be so.... she claimed she was discriminated against, treated badly, and blah blah lie lie. ... MM is nothing like Sophie, who was trying, quietly closed shop...obviously learned a lot behind closed doors and came out as a good royal worker!! They need to update some of the rules.. anyone marrying in has to agree to an amount of training and follow that training to be a working royal. If they don't work out and step down, they get a small allowance and small home to live in....but if they leave and leave the country, ALL titles are removed (even birth titles) and they all loose their place in the Line of Succession, as no child growing up in another country, knowing nothing about the country of their heritage and the heritage of their title should ever sit in the queue to the throne of that country!!!

Loved this episode! No doubt H&M could learn a thing or two from Edward &Sophie, but does anyone think they will humble themselves to even try?

Gosh! That '6 mile hike' photo looks very like William, I've never really noticed that before. I'm really enjoying your videos Richard, thank you for making them. I've always liked Edward & Sophie and their daughter, Lady Louise is such a beautiful young lady too with maybe a tiny wee bitty of Princess Anne in her when doing the 'Carriage Driving'. They are a lovely family.
