Hey guys here is a scripture reference you were looking for where the Holy Spirit interrupted someone speaking. “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,” Acts 10:44-46 NKJV

Acts 10 is an example of the Spirit falling and interrupting the preaching of Peter to the household of Cornelius, by coming on the new believers and imparting to them a gift of tongues. That’s challenged me to not be wooden with the exhortation to do all things “decently & in order.”

Good discussion. I have been turned off by all the false prophets, but I still believe it in the gifts of the Spirit. There is so much confusion in the Charismatic camp, which is why cessationists are now mocking us. They are right in some things they have said, but wrong in others. The mocking tone is hard, and I don’t think I can bear to watch them much anymore. I just want the truth.

Another thing too, some people will actually manifest demons IN the presence of God. Powerful worship or preaching can make them manifest or the laying on of hands. What some people would call Kundalini could actually be deliverance of a demon taking place.

The Bible states that there are rules for speaking in tongues and for prophecy within the church service. What you see in so many of these mega churches is disruptive, frightening, and makes my skin crawl. Too much of what we see is emotionalism, putting on a show, and I actually feel that some people are manifesting demons. The problem is that we see so much weird stuff that we are no longer sensitive to the Holy Spirit. I love singing together in the Spirit during a service, but not to the point where it gets freaky and ugly. We need to use self-control.

Would it be legal for you? To let. Christians pray at church. Or would praying out loud be? A loss of your salvation. Because when a bunch of people are praying. In a language that they know. In a prayer. Time. Then you can pray in tongues in the prayer language. There's a difference, you know. No, I don't think you do know, or you wouldn't be confused.

We also have to understand that the devil can only counterfeit what he sees God doing. Just like there are demonic tongues, there are also real Biblical tongues. There is reiki healing and there is true healing from God. There is Kundalini and there is true manifestations of the Holy Spirit.

We are not called to follow signs and wonders but to follow Christ and the Word of God. We are not to be led, or swayed, by signs, wonders, and supernatural manifestations as we are warned that Satan can feign the same. Our first port of call should be God's word and not experiences this way we can be protected from so much deception that is out there within the church.

I am an Elder in a Christian Church (Stone-Campbell Movement) many in my fellowship argue for cessation . I do not agree because I can find no where in sculpture that says the gifts will end before the "Coming of the perfect" 1 Corinthians 13. Our movement grew out of the most famous Camp meeting in American history The Cane Ridge Revival, to this day we still see unexplainable movements of the Spirit, just ask any missionary who has worked in the middle east or the global south.

This is so apt, so I'm just starting my journey into this charismatic reality, and trying/wanting to be open to the gifts. You hit the nail on the head, I'm struggling to believe because it seems so weird and foreign to me. I especially am bristling at what seems to be like this special lingo that alot use, and the casting out of demons/them naming all the demons (where do they get this from, not the bible). I want to encounter The Holy Spirit in a real and tangible way desperately, and am envious of some believers perceived relationship with Him. But I'm not sure it's even real...this relationship/the life they are experiencing. So I can't deny the fruit they are displaying, (changed lives, freedom from sin, then going out preaching Christ and the Gospel, praising/thanking Christ). I've become a part of this ministry, began supporting it, and I'm supposed to be having a a session today for them to see if they can cast out any demons from me/I can feel the Spirit. I've been crying out for this for so long, but I'm so stuck in my head. I'm trying to be open, but am so cautious I'm afraid I'm quenching the Spirit. Please pray for me, and any input is welcome, but you did hit on most of it. Still confused, and struggling though.... I think I just need to keep pressing into this....

I'm really looking forward to your podcast study on "Kingdom of the Cults" I've been meaning to order that book for myself for some time. With that in mind, as well as this subject of Manifestations, I've been haunted by a testimony/manifestation that i had over 33 years ago while in a church in KY. I'm still trying to make sense of it. . .
@katharinaelkins29843 жыл бұрын
. . . I was raised in a church that was a combination of Metaphysics, Gnosticism and the "New Thought" tradition of the 19th century. And in my teens, I identified with the new occult teachings as my mom did. But in my twenties, I began to seek and follow Christ Jesus as my personal Savior as opposed to the impersonal God of forces and abstract "infinate idea". I joined a Sabbatarian church that believed in the Latter rain as described in Joel 2:28-32; and I repented of the belief that man - humankind- is inherently immortal and spiritual. ("You will not surely die" Gen3:4). But in my personal life, I was still very much influenced by a deeply entrenched kind of hero worship. And I looked to and admired people I thought to model myself after.
@katharinaelkins29843 жыл бұрын
I came from a family of 4 girls and 1 boy. I was the slow one, the laggard. Next to my siblings and peers, I seemed very incompetent and I seemed doomed to failure; and then when I was in my late forties and fifties, I moved in with my elderly father because I had nowhere else to go. But at 31 (17 years earlier) I was married and living in Kentucky when I felt inspired to make a plea before my church to pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as described in Joel 2. But I also believed at that time, that Elijah would be a literal person like Elijah of the OT and John the Baptist of the Gospels. This wa contrary to the doctrine of the the latter rain as taught by my church; the Elijah of the latter days would be the Spirit as in the former rain of the Pentecost of the 1st century. I told the Congregation that there was an individual that was not currently in "our" church denomination (my church had a position of exclusiveness about being THE end time church) and I went on to assert that the 'Elijah' person was being ardently recruited by Satan and needed our prayers for them to realign themselves to the LORD'S side. Soon after that my husband and I moved to upstate NY where my daughter was born . . .
@katharinaelkins29843 жыл бұрын
It was after we moved that I became acquainted with a cult that followed an individual that claimed to be the latter days Elijah. He led them during the 1950s; but they disbanded when the 'Elijah' they thought to be the forerunner of the LORD'S 2nd coming - died. But many of those followers reunited to follow a series of Messiah figurs with catastrophic results. I realised thru this experience how easy it is to be deceived and deluded. My main point, my concern is a prayer for discernment and understanding of God's will for individuals and members of the body of Christ as we build each other up in the New Jerusalem, the bride of Christ. A year and a half after I gave that testimony, I was pregnant with my daughter (who is now 31 years old and an avowed atheist). And I went to bed one night with an upset stomach, feeling the churning and turning of the life inside of me. I heard the Spirit give a name for this turning-inside-out that was happening within me. The Spirit said it was "The Flower of Jacob" "He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; . . ." - Malachi 4:6

It’s like we’re doing a whole circle and have come back to the beginning of that circle. I was involved in the whole “Toronto” “Pensacola” “ revival”, it’s a bit like , don’t let a good story get in the way of the truth. Here in Australia I saw extremes that I now look back at and am embarrassed and mostly ashamed of. We had some of America’s best and divinely chosen to come and treat us like spiritual groupies and bled us dry for as much as we had to offer, for the most part we genuinely loved and wanted more of God and what He had to offer, ripe for the picking . We talk about the fruit, well after 40 years how should fruit look, taste and present ? I’m learning that the reason we see so little “REAL” signs and wonders is because of the amount of false testimony in past events and current seasons. I know this makes me seem critical and unpopular but I got gloriously born again and experienced a real tangible fruit bearing transformation, NO exaggeration or false testimonies needed, people saw how messed up and blinded I was and then saw I could see for the fist time, praise God. I want real, I mean for real God doing God stuff, not man made waves of seat filling chasing empty cloud stuff. ✌️

Sarah Edwards experiences and her history is awesome concerning the works of the Holy Spirit, had estatic joy , tears, angelic visitations , the supernatural and her exaltation to Jesus Christ. I don't believe honestly any American Reformed leaner in my circles is really being honest with history of our circles who believe in any form of Calvinism . Speaking from experiences. On face book our Reformed Charismatic group has 900 or so people in it. And we all have been talking about this for years how the Reformers were very open to the manifestations of the Supernatural of God . I use to the Edwards advise and so on. I am personally with Edwards on these issues. The best book on the Toronto movement was written by Ken Fish his wife endorsed by J I Packer the River is Here. The true Baptism of the Holy Ghost within the Awakenings and Holiness movements has always had joy unspeakable and full of glory type things. It is the doctrine and fruit of the people and such. I love Edwards on these things. It is very balanced. Edwards would be in the modern Continuist circles in my opinion based on his experiences not broader Charismatic. Amen experiences should should point to the person of Jesus the Son in the awe and wonder. Great book to promote Strangers to Fire.

I don't know if this is the right podcast on which to ask but Miller just mentioned encountering the holy spirit, wailing and crying. I grew up Presbyterian and had gone to a Mennonite church for about 5 yrs when my kids were little and then went to a church that is part of IHOP. I really liked this last church but I held back alot and I can't figure out why. Anyway, after church I had one of the elders his wife pray for me and also my friend and I think the pastor and his wife came over too but it was an amazing moment. I can hardly describe it but I was bawling and felt like I was floating and I think they ended up sitting me down on a chair. I know I was bathed in the holy spirit. ..I have never had that and never told anyone else even though I wanted to shout it out and I haven't been back to church. ..that was in 2019. I don't know why I haven't gone back or why I am holding back when I did go to church. I am feeling stuck.

Poor fellow, I hope when he stands before Christ he has something to show for his life in Christ for the kingdom sake. If anyone has read the bible they have read about some very strange happenings that God has something to do with and he thought it worthy to share with us. I mean when king Saul was anointed king, the Spirit came upon him and he became a new man in response to God's Spirit with prophecy, dancing and naked, that's strange right there. We need to walk and talk with love and truth in all things.

We are told to test every spirit and cast down every imagination that exalts itself against the word of God. Of course you must know, understand what the word says to do so. Jesus said, "If you continue in my word you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." That is a promise. Meditate in the word and be a doer of the word, so you can glorify Jesus, so you can glorify the Father, so you can make a difference in this world, letting your light shine, As he is so are we in this world.

Not to change the subject, but I was wondering what a "Kundalini Spirit" is. I tried to Google it, but they didn't explain it very well.
@nathanpriddis4123 жыл бұрын
Kundalini is a term borrowed from Eastern religions. It's a Western translation of Eastern thought. In the East there are actual formal doctrines of spirits possessing and occupying people, even to the point of what anatomical processes are involved. These doctrines do not make Eastern practioners into experts. But, it does mean spiritual phenomenon are observed and acknowledged as real. Spiritual practices do produce physical phenomenon. Lacking a label to discribe phenomena occuring in Wedtern Churches, some people then borrow the name Kundalini. There is no spirit named Kundalini from the East. . There is however an entire world of spirits completely unrelated to whether a person is Asian or Caucasian. Phenomena affecting the nervous system is not a matter of geography or race. There is no human activity outside of religion, drugs or alcohol, where people desire to have their nervous system impaired.

@Ryan Buikema Johnathan Edwards had slaves though and said it was a necessary evil.
@mr.bowdensartclass75833 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema I mean being a slave is already mistreatment but I see what you are saying. My issue is that in the previous episode they said if a teacher preaches that fornication is ok (even if they preach the other gospel essentials) that is heretical. But why isn’t being a slave owner put in the heretical category?
@mr.bowdensartclass75833 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema the type of slavery in the NT is different than the slave trade of the 16th century. And the Bible actually condemns “man stealing” in Exodus which is what happened in American slavery.
@mr.bowdensartclass75833 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema I also have 1 Timothy 1:8-10 lol but yeah I’m not saying Edwards mistreated the slaves But dehumanizing a human because of their race is mistreatment by itself. My question is where’s the line Btwn a cultural blindspot vs heretical teaching?
@mr.bowdensartclass75833 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema thank you for your explanation I really appreciate it. I think our disconnect is the use of “slave of Christ” by Paul. Once again the slavery in Paul’s day is different in motivation and in context than the slave trade of the 16th century. Even if the slave was born in your house their parents were part of a trade. And once again American slavery was based on skin color and the concept that people of color were less than human. This isn’t the same motivation during the slavery of Paul’s day. When Paul says slave, bondservant, or servant he’s applying the word metaphorically to someone absolutely devoted to Jesus. It’s like when someone calls their friend a “Ride or Die” or a “Day one”.

I think it is a valuable use of time to investigate and study the spiritual practices of other religions, particularly pagan based ones (like Hinduism). When you see some of what goes on in their practices, and you see how similar they can look to what we label "spirit-filled," it can get disturbing. Ultimately, God wants us to turn to HIM and not other gods/spiritual influence. But because most westerners don't realize how much healing, falling out, and uncontrollable laughter happens in other religions as they access other spirits, it makes it far more difficult to discern.
@MariahSanders223 жыл бұрын
I agree. But the enemy counterfeits too. The devil tries to imitate the power of God but it’s a counterfeit power and it actually sometimes looks like very similar manifestations to when God’s power overwhelms someone. I think we should look at the fruit in these instances and not just judge the manifestations just because it’s different than we’re maybe used to or haven’t experienced personally.

I am a recovered drug addict and alcoholic. I've been clean and sober. For. 44 years. When I was drunk. I had no. I Inhibition. I said. And did. A lot of things. Under the influence. That I never would have done. If I had not been drinking. I was reacting. 2. The way. The alcohol made me feel. Slurring my words. Falling down. Puking. But there were other things. That affected my actions. Because I was drunk. For instance. My temper. Would just instantly. Flare up. And I could hit somebody. Or cuss them out. Because I had no inhibitions. I would flirt with women. That I would be so shy to even talk to. If I was sober. I would act out. Tell stupid jokes. Make fun of people. Why? Because I was under the influence of alcohol. In other words, I would do some strange things, and I knew I was doing strange things, but when I'm under the influence it doesn't seem strange. How is that any different? Than being under the influence. The Holy Spirit. So much so. That's you're drunk. I have been. Drunk in the spirit. And believe me. The way it makes you feel and act. It's kind of like the way you feel when you've been drinking too much or smoking too much pot. Under the influence of the Holy Ghost, I did a lot of fleshly stupid things. But your flesh is going to react. To the spirit. If the spirit is strong enough on you. You will react. Now, even in my most drunken states. If I wasn't passed out. If something interrupted my action. Then I could quit doing that action. Same way with underneath the whole, the spirit of God. If somebody would say to me. Sir. I think you dancing. While people are praying, it's inappropriate. I would stop. I've never done that. That's an extreme example of what I'm trying to say. So how would should we judge people underneath the influence of the Holy Ghost? What is the word of God say? Jonathan Edwards should know this. These guys should know this. To me it's not complicated. In fact, you don't have to Greek or Hebrew it. It's written right there in black and white. We don't let these things go. And put a stop to it. If we don't know if it's of God or not. Also. If you don't know if it's God or not. How do you know you should? Let it continue in the service. There is an answer. Take me too long to say it. The answer is simple. Where did God says? The Holy Ghost leads in all truth. We should be mature enough in the spirit. To be able to to discern. Watch that the flash. Watch of God. And watching the devil. I don't know, maybe they'll explain this later on. But so far in this video. I haven't heard them say. It. Another point. In the last. Six months or so. The. Christians I hang around with. Which are? Very. Very deep. Understanding of the word of God. They say and do things. When it comes to understanding the word of God. They say and do things that are totally ridiculous. They should be more spiritually mature than they are. Just like Jonathan Edwards and these guys talking about this. I don't understand why people don't understand this. If it's spiritual, you're not gonna understand it with your carnal, natural, third dimensional. Legalistic. Logical mind. If it's spirit, you have to discern it spiritually to see where that spirit is coming from. How's that hard? I don't get it, and believe me, I've been frustrated for a long time about this.

Characterizing the Toronto Blessing as having a few manifestations amidst a genuine move of God (my paraphrase) does not nearly describe what has happened there. That would be a better characterization of the Brownville Revival. Toronto was a mockery of Christ's own Body. Excessive manifestations were discouraged in his day. Today, in many charismatic cycles, they are the focus. If they were the focus in New Testament/ECF's times, we would not only have heard about it, but there would be an emphasis upon it. Just because Bill Johnson's recent distancing from grave soaking does not cover his late wife's habitation among the departed. I suspect a lot of these unbiblical practices continue under shade of darkness.

We are supposed to seek the Giver (God) rather than His "gifts."

What does the Bible say? "But honestly desire the best gifts." ~ 1 Cor 12:31 a "... desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy." ~ 1 Cor 14:1b "I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied;" ~ 1 Cor 14:5a "Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues." ~ 1 Cor 14:39

Missing the primary measuring tool of "manifestations" - The Scriptures and only the Scriptures. Being drunk in the spirit is not in the Scriptures. Babbling is not in the scriptures. Shaking on the floor is not in the scriptures. The gifts of the spirit were and are used to confirm the message declared/spoken. The Bible doesn't say they have ceased, God can do whatever He wants. Subsequently, the Bible does confirm its self through the word being recorded for everyone to read, therefore, the miraculous gifts are not needed in the church.
