This selfish mindset is hurting the world so much. Same with laws that guarantee new rights. Every day I see people that are against rights. Rights. Aka more options for a citizen, not more responsibilities. Where is the logic in that? Same with being against something because other people might benefit from it and not you. Why. It doesn't change anything for you, not a single thing but for others it can be life changing. Yet people are vehemently opposed to things like that every single day. I'd understand being indifferent, but why in the world would you go out of your way to be against things like that. How pitiful are people nowadays... It's just sad

It applies to so many other areas in life, people see someone broke or in a lot of debt, or pregnant and single, or divorced, and say "look at that loser, that could never happen to me". Empathy didn't evolve for people to pat themselves on the back and say how virtuous we are, it evolved because something bad WILL happen to you, at some point, and we improve and survive personally by trying to understand and make bad situations better to handle for everyone broadly.

Holy crap, Louis went hard. The impression I got from him in this video was the same impression I got from the character John Coffee in the movie "The Green Mile." Near the end, when John was about to be executed, and Tom Hanks was trying to convince him to escape. John Coffee just looked at him and said, "I'm tired boss... I'm tired of people being ugly to each other, all the time." He had that same look on his face. Utter, bone deep exhaustion. I feel for you Louis. Thank you for what you do.

@josephlh1690
@josephlh1690 Күн бұрын
@@RamonInNZ That movie was a pretty accurate depiction of possible real life scenarios in which a good person is at the wrong place at the wrong time. Where raw emotion leads to iron clad convincement that there is no point in digging deeper to make sure they had the right person. The most impactful scene to me in that movie was when that one cruel prison officer is told by the real culprit that they did it, in extensive detail, to which point that officer, I believe his name was Percy? Pulled out his ,357 revolver, pumped that bastard with all 6 .357 magnum chambered bullets in quick and lethal fashion, knowing that it was too late for John Coffee to have his execution delayed. It was against protocol but it instilled a form of vindication to the viewer. Even if the real culprit lived, there was no smoking gun to establish that the man did it out side of confessing to a prison officer off record. Ask your self, what would you do? Play by the rules and allow the criminal to circumvent proper punishment? Or ignore the rules and make sure the real culprit doesn't get off on a technicality? Sometimes justice will and does require that unethical actions be taken in order to prevent further unethical outcomes occurring. Vigilante justice is frowned upon, yet it can at times be the only route to the best outcome long term, just look at it history, it took vigilantism to bring down the roman empire. Rome would not have fallen any other way.

/regurgitated "Have your opinion; don't let your opinion have you." -_(Patrice O'Neil)_ And you are correct: Pepsi vs Coca Cola... Apple vs Microsoft... BMW vs Mercedes... (All these have been advertising campaigns) The main problem with this way of thinking/advertising... ...is that it works. It's an evolutionary response. We used to rely on groups for safety and survival (against predators, against other groups, to survive food scarcity, etc). Humans are extremely good in making groups, and recognizing who belongs to that group and who does not. (That's why the 2 party system in the US got so engrained. And why blaming immigrants for problems in society is so persistent. And why football hooligans exist, etc.) Within people's social group - the group they feel they belong to - there are always certain rules and maneurisms that the group adheres to (accepted and approved behaviors, that get strengthened over time through affirmation of group members)..) - This whole thing is called 'Group Theory', which is an area of study in Psychology, Social Sciences, and Linguistics. Particularly interesting in combination with social media (how we behave on Twitter and Facebook and such). There's a massive difference between language and behaviors used within the group versus communication with people (and the world) outside of the group. Particularly people on the far-right have become extremely adept at using certain signal words and emoticons to recognize eachother without having to say anything... (Did you know you can search for a single emoticon on Twitter, btw? It's a very effective way to find people 'like you'. And can look completely harmless for people outside of that group). Anyways - if you're interested: you can find some pretty interesting research papers about this subject via Google Scholar

Samsung vs iphone ads have been doing this "making fun of the others" directly for years. They're running one right now, actually. EDIT: it's called the "Simon Says Upgrade" Ad
@Marynicole830
@Marynicole830 16 сағат бұрын
@@ventilate4267 which doesn’t make sense because Samsung also does the yearly, super incremental upgrades every year. They had a good couple of years starting in 2019 and ending in like 2022 but they are now the same phone every year as well. I don’t care if the phone looks different, I need the internals to be different. I need a good refresh rate for games, I need a smooth processor. I need as good of a camera they can fit in there and heck, make the phone thicker for a bigger sensor. Even going up half a size makes a huge difference (camera sensors come in standardized sizes usually) and put it all in an iPhone 11 case for all I care. I hear people complain that the phones look exactly the same every year but who cares? There used to be a huge difference in internals every year in a similar case and that’s not the case anymore and thats what we should be complaining about. I liked it when there was an every two year big upgrade with smaller incremental upgrades in between. There would be a smaller upgrade for people who hadn’t gotten an upgrade in a while so they wouldn’t be buying old tech that was about to be obsolete (sometimes you can’t choose when you have to replace your phone) but people with the iPhone 5 for example wouldn’t feel the need to get the 5S. The upgrades in phones now are even less than the increments from the # S were from the main number. It’s insane.

"Brutal" was the one thing it wasn't, though. It was incisive and it wasted no time, though. To call it "destroy[ing] someone" misses the point. It wasn't meant to be about attacking some type of *person* -- we're almost all more or less the same "type" of person, in that we're closer to the bottom than the top, and we buy crap products because that's what exists. Every company is out there to bend you over a barrel. We ALL have made bad purchases. You go cheap you get screwed, you go expensive you get screwed. No one is immune to it. Also trying to convince someone else to change their purchasing habits is an exercise in futility. I learned that lesson after trying to convince my mom that she was basically throwing away money on store brand garbage. As an example, to save a dollar on paper towels she buys the store brand that takes 3 times as many sheets to actually absorb anything, leave lint everywhere, has the scrubbing capability of printer paper, and falls apart instantly. That wasn't about stroking my own ego either that was simply about saving her money since she is on a fixed income.

There have always been ways to skirt around that, but there was a general basis for critique and condemnation more than there is now. Now just saying “Who cares? It’s my life” gets more mileage because there is no respected authority or social contract to check it….our society has agreed that yes, you are your own person regardless of what you do, so arguing against any negative applications of that idea is harder because we’ve rejected the basis for reasons against it (absolute truth, God, social duty, etc.). Many moral arguments now just come down to “because everyone else says so,” which isn’t a sustainable model. The philosophy of one generation is often realized in the third or fourth. It's easier to blame one's neighbour for making a bad decision, because otherwise one has to acknowledge that there's a systemic problem, and that's a lot harder to fix. Although the biggest obstacle to fixing it is people not acknowledging that it's a problem, or not caring enough to want or try to fix it.

To really distill the problem down, we have been brainwashed into believing that if you disagree with someone then they are evil or Racist or whatever bad thing you can think of, instead of continuing to talk and find things you do agree on. It has gotten so bad that people will even argue about the things they do agree on. It’s nuts.

It is a continuing source of joy in my life to see how much I agree with Louis Rossman these days. I think I must have disagreed with him in the past, on one issueni cant even remember, and the conviction he holds must have been so strong as to convince me that he was someone I wouldn't agree with on most issues. I try to do my homework when buying stuff especially when it's expensive stuff. I kinda believed if I purchased quality up front, I would only need to buy it once. But now a days it doesn’t seem to make as much of a difference because places don't stand behind their stuff or they go out of business and reopen as a new place or they do crap stuff like chane terms of service after the fact. Heck some places keep a big database of customer information and don't bother to secure it. I guess that's why I got 6 notices from different places informing me that my information was compromised and I should get some sort of monitoring service.

We didn't create this world we live in. It and we, have been socially engineered. Sigmund Fraud nephew, Edward Bernays learned about human behavior, the art of marketing and wrote several books on propaganda. Books that inspired Joseph Goebbels. KZbin has a piece on him called A Brief History on the Man Who Brainwashed America. One of his quotes: "The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of."

Well actually 🤓, Depending on your perspective, this sentence serves double meaning, Here is a little bit of optimism: If the world is good, then it allows ourselves to enjoy what we had made If the world is bad, then it allows ourselves to take responsibility for our own actions, show that we can repent our wrongdoings, It does not have to be "we deserve to be in a bad place, for we are unattonable"

@@integerofdoom69 How so? Defeatist would be saying things can’t change, this comment is saying things don’t change because we don’t allow it to. For example rather than giving some set of reasons why OP should see things differently we are simply here to say something negative. You came to call someone a defeatist cause obviously YOU’RE not like that and me to point this out. We don’t help each other, do we even try? To me it mostly seems like we sit on our butts and feel good about ourselves for posting some text bashing someone online, usually for something we personally think we don’t do. In fact I don’t see you saying or doing anything that could make him/her even rethink his point of view, no arguments, nothing positive, nothing constructive, just a quick one liner label about what someone else is. I feel like, as the other person pointed out, it is hard NOT to be defeatist when that is most people’s goal. To make someone feel “defeated”, to make this poster as an example feel like they have done something wrong and should feel bad for how they feel. To make it clear that’s not how YOU would think and so they should (In some way too vague to help of course) be more like you and think more like you. Why? Does what they are doing cause problems? Are they unhappy? Do you plan to monitor the situation and give praise to those with a “better” attitude or give this person credit should they do something more to your standards? I doubt it so yeah, a lot of people feel pretty defeated. Like the world and the people in it are more interested and putting people down than in helping them. That most people just assume their comments would be wasted on others who don’t already parrot back what they think is best. That even comments about how we should be more positive manage to be negative because people can’t stand the idea of “looking dumb” and trying to do a good thing. You know it’s shockingly easy to be “smart” and “right” when you predict bad things. When you “don’t waste your time” trying to make anything better or change the things you complain about, there is a 99% chance if you’d wrote something urging this person to look on the bright side you’d be laughed at, probably even by the person you were responding to. It’s easier to give up after all, easier to be defeatist too, but since that seems to bother you maybe next time try at least expressing your issue with that in a way the might make others reconsider? I’m not telling you to be everyone’s bastion of hope and love but if you ACTUALLY have a problem with people just giving up…maybe it’s worth “looking dumb” by trying to cheer up some random person online? Just a thought. Have a nice day by the way, hopefully this didn’t come off as insulting towards you, it’s just I really don’t think you’re doing anything different than OP in terms of being a defeatist, I think you just go about it in a different way and I wish we all could do better, myself included.

A small account of ego vs the world. (Apologies for the grammar or if anything is difficult to get immidietly, first time writiing this story in english. This happened between 1998 and 2014) So i grew up in a small village, rather rural with some agriculture around. The major of the municipality moved to this village just before he quit working and got on pension, to the same street which i used to live in. And one of the last places to have an improvement. He had been the sitting major for well over 12 years as very little political contest around here. Our village would see a flood every 5-7 years. basements flooded at minimum, sewage may come up in reverse, even with quite hefty foundation drains water may still come in through the walls, the streets flooded enough to use a boat some times. Now our village is quite uphill to any river, one of the nations longest rivers do run by about 1km down south and 200 height meters bellow the village location. So it was never the river flooding over. Just heavy rain over some time, and inadequate storm drains buildt for the volume of water. Now petitions and calls for a better built out drain system had been going on for years and years. Eventually a small improvement was made in some areas of the village, though still some houses got flooded. But once some houses were safe, the ones now safe, stopped helping the rest asking for better built out drainage, they did not care to help their neighbours since they themselves was now out of it. After an additional flooding the village had an overhaul of the drainage and now at worst 1-2 households have had a flooding in their basement within the last 12 years. Now the major had always been one of the opposers to build more or invest more on the drainage system (biggest problem was that the pipes were not big enough to lead away the amount of water) as it was mostly adequate... But as soon as he was on pension and out of office. (also moved to the village after the last improvement of the drainage system.) He went door to door, to try and gather everyone in the village on a lawsuit against the municipalty, for not building out the drainage system over the years. (He wanted to line his own pockets with compensation money, even though he had not experienced any floodings) Out of the 400 households in affected area 8 joined in with the hypocrite (Luckily my father, who still lives there, was at least on the fence about it and did not join in since few others were). The lawsuit did not make it to any court as there was not enough people joining in. For the previous major to be able to say he represent the village, thus he did not have the balls to go through with it. If it was just a couple years earlier, before the big renovation of the drainage system i have no doubt a lot would have joined in. Even if it was the person who actively denied the improvements. What i took from seeing this happen is: people do not care if it is not to their benefit, themselves or family. Problems must be solved all at once or you lose the momentum from having the majority, as those affected will go each to their own as their part of the problem get fixed. Hypocrites will try to benefit from anything.

That exact attitude is the problem he's addressing here. Of COURSE this kind of behavior from companies isn't new; but just because it's common doesn't mean we shouldn't fight it. If you dismiss these companies bad treatment of consumers because "those people should know better", you by doing so excuse their behavior. Also, you're completely ignoring the amount of propaganda and misinformation these companies use to entice people. How about instead of criticizing those who've been duped, you put your attention to educating and helping them?

I believe change will only come from the many and will take a lot longer to come from the top. I know your content has allowed me to push back on multiple companies. In recent years, I had a manufacturer provide me a part number and when I tried to purchase the part I was told that part isn’t allowed to be sold. I made it clear that they could essentially sell me the part or I won’t ever look at their product again as there’s no way I was going to send in a partially working unit and be down the entire unit. I mentioned the case for right to repair and they agreed. They discussed it internally and sold me the part. I have nothing but respect for them doing so. The part came in, I changed it, and I had a functioning unit again with only an hour of downtime instead of weeks and the added cost/time of shipping.
