As an American who has been living in Taiwan for over 15 years, I can totally understand the mentality of "dovish' approaches when NO ONE not the U.N. the U.S. or any other government entity has taken a strong stance with Taiwan due to China and the Taiwan issues. There isn't even a US Embassy here, and while the US has given equipment to TW such as helicopters and military equipment, the closest support we have from the US are the Naval ships sitting close to N. Korea. They call Taiwan 'Ghost Island" for a reason. We have a democracy here, with a president and a two party system, but remember when Trump called to congratulate our Cai Ying Wen he got all sorts of flack not just from China, but from the US politicians as well. Musk has been ADAMANT regarding X and how the platform follows regulations of the country it's being used on, since TW is not even recognized by the UN as it's own country, the only thing to do is cater to China's policies. Remember: Even the TW Olympic team is not TAIWAN, it's CHinese Taipei. Enough of your fluff, get a clue.

It might also be a status thing as well. I imagine it originated in the upper classes as a way to distinguish themselves from the plebs. i love thunderfoot's videos on Musk. Thunderfoot predicted Musk will go bankrupt, and his argument is essentially that his wealth is mainly tied up in Tesla, and Tesla's value is wildly inflated. when you compare the value of Tesla to the value of other automakers, and compare the revenue to other automakers, you can see how overvalued Tesla is. so he expects a "correction" eventually. Musk himself says this on earnings calls, he says things like "self driving is the difference between Tesla being worth a lot of money, or essentially zero". there is more to thunderfoot's videos, than what i mentioned, i'd highly recommend them to anyone who is interested (also in the tech side of Musk's claims)
