Eminem was my favorite rapper from 2000-2004. When he dropped Encore, I pretended that it wasn’t garbage. Nobody is saying he can’t rap. If anything, he is skillfully at his zenith…but I don’t want to hear it. There is definitely something different about his music from 2009-present day. In my ears, he has never topped Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show.
@cyber-bully5063 Жыл бұрын
This video really misses the mark on how he fell from his prior grace, him not appealing to people who don't care for rap as a genre, being angsty and "making music for haters" are not the reason he's been falling flat on listeners for so long. If anything pursuing validation from people who aren't well versed in the genre by bloating his albums with mediocre filler pop tracks and wowing them with cheap gimmicks has damaged his career more than anything and in regards to being angsty, their are rappers like Kanye and Run the Jewels who have held onto their young angst even in their older age and are still hitting all the right spots with music listeners. Making music "for his fans" instead of his haters is also a really bizzare point, there are millions of his fans who wanted him to go back to flipping out on anyone who talked sideways about him and to start dishing shit out on other rappers which is what he delivered. Most of his fans still love Kamikaze but it's the general music audience outside his fanbase that thinks it just sounds corny and lame The real reason for his fall off has more to do with how much is ability to structure songs and write well has dipped over the years. He was one of the best ever with his underground east coast imagery/charisma heavy style while also having the most legendary play on the white rapper archetype in hip-hop but he threw all of that away just to become a punchline rapper, something he's generally pretty hit-or-miss with. Not to mention for the past decade he's been rapping on tracks with some of the worst production and hooks i've ever heard with some of the most basic issues in audio mixing an artist his size has had in recent memory and he's only really started to fix this after 10+ years which is just sad that it was such a struggle for dude to reach what is literally standard for almost every other artist.

Gotta disagree man. Of course artists music style changes with time. Releasing 5 Eminem Shows in a row would be kind of lame wouldn‘t it? He mastered rap early in his career and turned a little more pop in recovery and in his new albums showed insane lyricism and technical ability being almost 50 years old. His music is going in another direction now and if you can‘t appreciate that - it‘s fine because everybody has different taste in music but listening to verses on not alike or lucky you and actually calling it trash is just a blatant demonstration of a lack of knowledge about rap. I agree with you though that he is too cocky and sceptical towards new rap music, which I myself don‘t even consider a big fan of but it‘s still art and very lyrical in many cases.

Yeahhh I’m honestly more mad at society, I think the world now isn’t a world that could give us another Eminem show, I made this video a long time ago and don’t really think I would have gone about it this way. At the end of the day the only reason I’m angry about it is because I like Eminem a lot he’s probably my favorite rapper so, appreciate the well worded response, even if you didn’t like the video I’m glad we can have non combative conversations.
@_Obi-Wan_Kenobi_7 ай бұрын
@@cladladd absolutely agree with you here. Rap has really moved away from what it used to be, I also wish we still had 2000s Em, Pac, Biggie etc, rapping was much more focused on flow, rhyme schemes (funny) punchlines back then. Now I feel like the content of the song is becoming more important while flow and classic beats are replaced with trap and in the worst cases autotune mumbling. Going into a song with technical ambitions is immediately called corny, but I think rap as a genre is generally corny so what… That‘s why I was glad to see Eminem raising the bar for this side of rap with his new albums and I see you have slightly changed your opinion on this as well so that‘s great to hear. I‘m not a stan or hip hop mind after all I just appreciate a lot of Eminem‘s music for the energy it conveys, the demanding rhyme schemes, awesome flow, great hooks and humor while you may be more of a (especially modern) hip hop fan in general (i dont know) so with different tastes in music it only makes sense that our opinion on the new Eminem differs a bit.

@@cladladdAgreed. At the end of the day tho Eminem brought all this on himself with his past actions and that Sway and Crooked I interview did him no favors. Being and old fan, It's just sad to see. I always thought the "kamikaze era" was a plan initially. I mean revival was purposefully made that way. It was a clear excuse to bark back at the rap world later. He had nothing left in his "recovery" persona lyrically. Campaign speech, no favours, then this BET cypher, revival are all deeply political. Some would say he has always been political, but not to that degree. Its not just controversial, it's just dumb because people became very opinionated and personally, for artist picking a side is lame af. I hardly ever hear "the feels" in his songs. They are not funny anymore, they dont touch you anymore. It's just smart punchlines and fast rapping that make you say "wow that's crazy!". I liked kamikaze, he made some good points but from the point of his legacy it's a clear inconsistency. He went clear in recovery, then he tried to put on the mask of slim shady again but it's no longer 2000's, it's impossible to recapture your youth because you have a baggage behind you and it just feels immature.

He should have ignored MGK or helped him out; obviously MGK was a fan and Em was an inspiration to him. He should not have got involved with the Trump thing, because that's a fad and it aged poorly and it will age even worse in the coming years. He is super self conscious that he fell off and its making him worse he needs to shake it off and make an actual shady album, not whatever is about to come out. for the love of god we need Shady, cut the butt rock samples. cut the new style. cut the ethnic church hymns.
