What upsets me about Etsy...other products that don't have any of my keywords in them, not even relevant products, will make the front page over my listing...I don't understand how that happens

It’s exactly what I’m talking about in this video, it’s the browse features and Etsy deciding that the keywords are close enough to be relevant, and the other factors are enough to put them there.

Sometimes i have to laugh; if Etsy looks at 1000 listings, every thing in my shop and the other 12 or so sellers with similar items "should" show up, and not much else. BUT, so much unrelated stuff is mixed in that by page 3, there arent really any more of my or anyone elses niche item. Continuously scratching my head and pulling out what hair i have left

That's the thing about it too, the first 1000 are the only ones that are ranked for that specific search, but Etsy is deciding what's the most relevant for each specific search and they definitely get that wrong!

My etsy shop is just 10 days old. I have a total of 88 views and 61 visits covering almost all my 30 listings with 3-4 favourites but no sales. Should I change something or just wait ? Thank you for this video 😊

Another great video. My shop is less than 3 months old. I am selling home decor. 76 sales (real sales). As always, conflicting opinions about... everything. That being said, I wholeheartedly trust your opinion. For the last 30 days I have spent 430 in ads, and had 710 in revenue from those ads. Opinion on that? The way I see ads, someone might not buy (right away or at all) but if they give item a heart or put in cart, I have the email set up for a 10% coupon. So then they might buy. Additionally, it gives the items more (potentially) visibility. Is this correct thinking, or not? thank you!

It depends on whether you're making money with that or not. If those were my numbers I wouldn't be running ads because the cost of them would be eating up my profits!

Thank you for this information, well explained! Can you tell us where renewing your listings falls in the club analogy? Sort of like slipping the bouncer .20 cents to get in 😀! I’ve heard mixed responses on that, does it work?

I've been on Etsy since 2006. It *really* used to work. But that was back when everything was listed in search results sorted by the "most recent" thing listed. So simply renewing got you to the top of the stack. It's does not work anymore. It's recency vs relevancy. With recency, there's too many ways to game the system. Shop owners were just renewing their entire shops every day trying to be first. It's untenable.

fun analogy. best etsy seo video! good to understand what's going on. question. looks like a few of my listings have fallen off the club list. they used to sell, and would renew after an order. now i have to renew after it expires every 4 months. do you suggest redoing the listing from scratch? would that be better than keeping on renewing when it expires? thanks kara!

I would make a copy and publish it as a new listing, but also renew the old one. See what happens then. Maybe add some different tags to the new one, too.

It's totally up to you. If the ads are working and you're still making a profit that you like on the things you're advertising, I wouldn't change them.

Great video! I have this one item that is very popular (it has a lot of likes) but no one is buying it. I also have similar things that are the same color scheme which sell quickly. I've been adding more things according to that color palette mostly. Is there a way to attract customers to things that are not in that color?

You can put links in the listings that are popular to lead them to the other ones. But sometimes specific color are just more popular no matter what you do.

No, the only discounts that stack are free shipping and discounts. Otherwise they'll just give them the highest discount.

I have an unusual question I hope you can answer. I've had an Etsy shop since 2014 but abandoned it long ago. I had 5 or 6 listings and no sales and since then, let my shop sit. Now I want to revive it and jump in full steam. My question: Is it an advantage to use my current shop, that has been around since 2014, - or - should I create a new shop? I want to make sure it's not a disadvantage that I have a 9 year old shop that has no sales history. Could this effect either the algorithm or potential buyers in the following example: Say I make 50 sales over the next 3 months... Does it look better that I have a 9 year old shop with only 50 sales, or a 3 month old shop with 50 sales? I was hoping that it would be an advantage to have an established shop(in age only). But, then again, my "all time sales" would be abysmal for the age of the shop. Any advise would be great, Thanks!

It won't affect the Etsy search algorithm, so it would basically boils down to the perception thing, If it would bother you to see the age of the shop and the low sales numbers then start a new shop, but I personally wouldn't worry about it because the idea of setting up a new shop from scratch is just something that's unnecessary and I'm lazy that way :)

@@KaraBuntinTutorials Thanks! Nice to know it won't effect the algorithm or be a factor in on the Etsy side. It really doesn't bother me personally about having an older, zero sales shop, I was more concerned about what potential customers might think. I guess either way, if I start a new shop or stay with this one, I need to build up my sales history and reviews from scratch anyway. ☺

i had this same issue, i had a shop from 2006 that i did a bit of work on back then, then laid dormant for almost 15 years, really just reviving it in 2022. I was worried about the same thing but kept it bc didnt want to get a new shop deactivated, plus it was in my brand name and i didnt want to lose it. What i did was put in my announcement "grand reopening in 2022" or something like that so for the few people that might care and look, that info is there as an explanation for no sales. and then id agree with Kara on the reviews thing
