Your unique insight into the stuff that goes behind the scenes, and your detailed yet concise explanation of the stuff that goes unnoticed by customers such as us, makes you and your channel truly remarkable! You are very under-rated KZbinr... I wish you all the best, may your channel keep on growing, and you keep enlightening us with your thoughtful content... And as al ways, that transition into the promotion part was remarkably coherent with the rest of the video :)

Nokia seems to be essentially following what some Android users said they've wanted for years. Near stock Android at an affordable price with little to no gimmicks. They've also got a fair amount of consumer trust due to their products having essentially a "this thing is near indestructible" reputation.

It's Finnish, and Chinese, it's a global company, most global companies have research institutes, design centers, manufacturing, and testing facilities in different countries, this industry is more integrated and widely spread than most people imagine. Also, brands don't design every phone they sell, many have been done by ODMs that are more time and cost efficient in lower-end phones. If we consider Apple as an American, and Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo as Chinese, Nokia is global, but nevertheless more Chinese than Apple.

But around 1.5 years Xiaomi started getting famous and fast forward today, everyone is buying Xiaomi and they are building shops like crazy in the shopping centers and even in the most busy and tourist Square in Madrid... I really like the idea of a fair produced phone. But I guess Fairphone is in a very difficult situation. I considered to buy one, but it's kinda old fashioned. No worries my friends, there is another star raising. They are called Shift Phone, a German Company. Same concept of fair paid labor and fair resources, but it's not as complicated. you can replace parts, they sell them, but it is not as easy as a Fairphone. I actually appreciate that, because they are way more advanced compared to Fairphone. I definitely gonna get one.

I have become very skeptical about Shiftphone. They claim to be as fair as possible but don't release much information on where they source their minerals & materials from, as well as the labour reports from their sourcing & manufacturing partners. Their last report is from 2016 and it mainly contains how they "want" to be fair, but does not contain any real insight into their supply chain. Their community has been asking for an updated report for more than a year and they still have not delivered.

Hi! I am enjoying several of your knowledgable videos these days, researching about the "business cases" within (more) sustainable mobile phones, such as the Fairphone. Am curious whether you would want to create another video about such (relatively sucessful or given-up) start-ups in Europe (say Shiftphone in Germany, and Finnish Puzzlephone that did not get the crowdfunding right) and why it is so damn hard to enter the market or win (a decent) market share. Might be modularity comes in back-door despite the earlier "modular phones' fail", as soon as more consumers (and designers) are convinced of better repairability and upgradability? Best regards, Ines

i think you're the only youtuber i know so far that delves into these kinds of contents. There are many tech channels out there but yours is unique. Keep it up! Btw, i'm also using my N7+ as my daily driver. I just feel that this phone wasn't given much justice on tech reviews. Gcam on N7+ for me actually surpasses hyped phones today. Also very smooth software experience, I rarely experience lags and minimal issues which can and/or some have been dealt with on-time software updates.

Sagem and Alcatel (both French?) were relatively ubiquitous for a time.. Usually aimed at the midrange to low-end with features and form factors that strived to copy the then market leaders (Nokia, erricson) with varying degrees of success and in their own quirky way .. They were both bought up by Chinese investment companies ages ago though.. Never a fan of Nokia - too commonplace and exorbitantly priced , the os (Symbian) whilst OK for its time was cumbersome and restrictive. They became too big, complacent and paid the price.

Well, nicely summed up on the Nokia. I always had a Nokia .. and got my Sirocco "of course" - because I would just not want to have a chinese or US brand phone. And Nokia adds just so much nostalgia. Also, their phones never disappointed me in any way. Even now my old Lumia 1020 is still fully functional (well, minus the stuck headphone jack - alright there is a disappointment) But on the subject of "why" - yes, it is nostalgia, nordic patriotism .. of sorts, and knowing that it has a kind of "cool" factor, too .. compared to the countless Iphones and Chinese phones.

No doubt about that. China is huge. And i have no illusions about my Nokia phone being totally outclassed in almost every aspect by a cheaper Chinese phone. But its just a nice feeling to have a phone produced in the neighbour country with a long history of phone making. Maybe - in a few years - some Chinese brands can enjoy similar brand recognition.
