Same can be said about Tata Cars. My Cousin gifted his college going twins two Harrier Dark edition, there were quality issues, panel gaping, and a week later one got transmissions issues and other got electronic system issue like power window and door not unlocking after a month. These Tata Turds let the problem escalate to the level that Me and My Brother had to contact the Owner and Regional Manager and within a week those Cars were Repaired. I can’t even imagine the problems faced by non influential people who trusted their hard earned money into Tata Cars.

Toyota working on hydrogen fuel cells since 1992 , 31 years and no concrete results. No hydrogen distribution network even in United States except few major cities of California. Hydrogen powered vehicles are total failure, Toyota is just too arrogant to accept it. BMW , merc , VW and few others brands also tried to their fate on H2 but they realised it soon and stopped further spending in this failed technology. The only reason (in my opinion) why tesla got famous was for its performance and autonomous driving. For me EVs are and will never be the future. But it is what it is, EVs will most probably dominate in near future.

In the technical part of the video, it has been a very commonly raised point that the stats for "problems" per 100 cars is higher with EVs because NHTSA (road safety regulatory auth in USA) treats and counts OS updates as "recall". It is a flawed terminology which has not been amended since 1960's when the recall system to fix flaws was introduced. Tesla and many EV makes including Tata and MG as well, offer a large variety of OS updates some of which are purely UI/infotainment related, while some may relate to better charging behaviour (charge curve) or ECU tune as well. As anyone with more than two brain cells can tell, an update issued to say, change the UI of infotainment should not be clubbed with an update issued to fix regen braking etc. FYI, Ioniq 5 and 6 had an issue where brake lights do not illuminate during regen braking. That was also fixed using OS update. Such a thing can be called recall, but NHTSA classifactions and terminology causes even normal periodic updates being termed as recalls and thus when surverys are done, it would obviously appear that EVs have more "problems" because EVs by far have the most advanced infotainment systems nowadays which keep getting updates much like your phone or laptop. Is it correct to say that apple iphone has "more problems" because iphones get 5-7years of OS updates compared to 2-3y on android phones? does more updates mean that somehow iphones have more problems? obviously not. yes exactly, its a fault on part of NHTSA to not amend the original recall terminilogy to exclude OTA updates. They still treat hardare fix recall the same as a software update. Naturally, if tesla gets a monthly patch to the software like many smart devices like phones and laptops do, then it amounts to 12 updates per year just from that. It is not fair to club software updates with hardware recall like brake issue mentioned here. That is a fair and square definition of recall. But in today's day and age, even ICE cars are getting OS updates. Its not an EV or Tesla issue alone

Good luck getting a Toyota or a Honda in the first place. You would have to choose a trim dealer has and that to paying a huge markup Toyota is playing with the market sighting chip shortage and their cunning dealers try to sell you the trims that don’t offer value and charge markup on top of that . As Tesla owner I can say few things about this car from my experiences after driving it 12000 km .. first good things - Its all together a different and pleasant experience when you go on long drives or holidays in this car.. very smooth and comfortable. It’s a beautiful car ❤. I like it’s minimalist design, looks and interior/ exterior and very good range like 400-600 plus km depending on the model. When took the delivery I also looked for those panel gaps etc same like other people but it was fine. Now what I don’t like about my car ? First thing the interaction with service guys as they aren’t very useful and never really got a satisfactory response on issues I had. For example sometime heard little noise from AC pump and more recently it showed me error message on screen “ emergency braking system” disabled for no reason and car stopped. I could drive it after 15-20 mins again and next day I brought it to service center and they took a test drive and couldn’t replicate it so again I will never know what caused that problem. So there I am - I like it but hate it at the same time 😊

From my experience with tesla model 3 (2018) long range rwd, I can say its a very safe and great car. I loved it everyday while I’m driving it. I Agree that it has some issues but note that it is a very brand new startup compared to other companies like honda/ toyota and over time it can fix those other issues which are related to workforce and supply chain issues that are going on. The technology and engineering is good and problem solving for carbon footprints. However until the way we generate electricity doesn’t change there won’t be much difference between an ev and gas car. The government should encourage renewable electricity programs ( hydro, solar, wind,bio ) etc., . Hope someone solves the problem to make the renewable electric source to produce mass electricity.

Electrical vehicles have less components but truth is very few of them are repairable. The most expensive component is battery which is sadly the most vulnerable to damage and non repairable. ICE vehicles on the other hand can be fixed at local mechanical shop with minimum expenses.

Most mechanic level people in India are uneducated and in the business purely from a generationally passed on knowledge like their parent or grandparent owned the garage and taught them everything. They're not some kind of mechanical engineer or automobile engineer graduated from IIT etc. Naturally, not only they lack basic knowlegde (no doubt they have skills in repair but not technical) they can do denting painting, change oil, coolant but if you take modern FI car with ECU controlled system, even ICE car can't be repaired by them You're talking 2 decade old thing when electronics hadn't become commonplace in automobile. The only additional eletronics in an EV is the charging equipment (Rectifier, BMS) and the Motor + ECU. Rest, everything is common in nexon EV. Normal nexon also has ECU, it also has fuel injection, ABS etc. The mechnics India simply aren't educated enough to repair these sophisticated things. Good luck to you if water leaks into your ICE car ECU during washing/monsoon storms. We shall see which mechanic can fix it for you

Many components in ICE engine are not repairable or economically repairable. These are replaced, not repaired. And oil and other liquids and other stuff are consumed or damaged over time, so these also replaced. Reality is you would probably have taken petrol car to mechanic at least 2 times before you take a battery EV to mechanic. Battery experience wear down far slowly than ICE engines.

This is a flawed way to assess reliability as all problem is treated equal. Cosmetic flaws wouldn't affect usability, whereas if all is good but engine is bad, that is counted as same. More features can mean more points of failure. High end cars give latest features which may fail more as they haven't been widely tested. Toyota use mature tech, which is why latest high end Toyotas have few features, boring software, but really robust

Even though electric drivetrain existed from long back but batteries with such a size and such complicated engineering never existed...the main challenge is battery engineering. From mechanical, thermal, electrical, software and production, everything is an unknown territory. However, the choice of cell chemistry and some design decisions are major cause of battery fire which could have been avoided. (Like a faulty battery charge indicator software might be a huge problem for EVs but in hybrid, ic engine will still be there even if battery charge goes from 20 to 0 suddenly) But then, why go for EVs? Simply because its Total cost of ownership will be way cheaper and the kind of driving experience EVs can offer, no one can! Many OEMs with smaller vehicles and batteries have had it figured out. Reports like JD Power use data from NHTSA (road safety regulatory auth in USA) and it has been a very commonly raised point that the stats for "problems" per 100 cars is higher with EVs because NHTSA treats and counts OS updates as "recall". It is a flawed terminology which has not been amended since 1960's when the recall system to fix flaws was introduced. Tesla and many EV makes including Tata and MG as well, offer a large variety of OS updates some of which are purely UI/infotainment related, while some may relate to better charging behaviour (charge curve) or ECU tune as well. As anyone with more than two brain cells can tell, an update issued to say, change the UI of infotainment should not be clubbed with an update issued to fix regen braking etc. FYI, Ioniq 5 and 6 had an issue where brake lights do not illuminate during regen braking. That was also fixed using OS update. Such a thing can be called recall, but NHTSA classifactions and terminology causes even normal periodic updates being termed as recalls and thus when surverys are done, it would obviously appear that EVs have more "problems" because EVs by far have the most advanced infotainment systems nowadays which keep getting updates much like your phone or laptop. Is it correct to say that apple iphone has "more problems" because iphones get 5-7years of OS updates compared to 2-3y on android phones? does more updates mean that somehow iphones have more problems? obviously not. Tesla is the most reliable EV. When tesla start advertising, you will notice that tesla will suddenly become more reliable in reports. There was another report which didn't place even a single tesla in top 10 EVs in the world. These reports are all biased. When you say tesla did so many recalls, it is not even a recall and it was just an OTA update and calling it a recall is outrageous. Wish you did more research on the topic. Even toyota engineers called the latest tesla a work of art and that it may take years for toyota to even match the present level. You quoted sandy munro on his old statement. Sandy has now become the absolute fan of tesla and boldly claim that there is nobody even near tesla in terms of reliability, quality, and technology.
