Hey friend! Thanks for reaching out. Now the goal is preaching the Word in a way people understand not making people emotional. There is a big difference between preaching for emotions and preaching for understanding. As we look at Nehemiah 8:8 they gave the “sense” and caused them to understand. Many preachers hope their audience understands what they themselves understand and are “hoping” to get across, but often people are lost. The reason being, the preacher never told them clearly what the passage is about at the beginning. If we are to preach the word faithfully, we must help people see clearly what it is saying. I believe our introductions should do that. Hence the story at the beginning gives the “sense” of the scripture we will be explaining, the intriguer “distinctly” spells out the truth of the passage, and the road map asks them to journey deeper in their understanding of the Word of God with you. This is a biblical approach to helping people grasp the powerful Word of God, and I pray this helps many preachers PREACH the Word of God clearly 🙏 Stay encouraged my friend!

The context gives the sense not your stories. People will remember your stories usually over the true context and doctrine. The Holy Spirit helps believers grasp the word of God.

Hey friend, I don’t believe social media is the best place to air disagreements so this will be my last response. First of all, I agree that Context is crucial and central to creating a sermon that rightly divides the Word of truth(as I state in many of my videos). I also believe the Holy Spirit helps believers grasp the Word. But you have not shown me any scripture that says stories are bad. In fact testimony is supposed to be part of our regular life. Being a witness deals with sharing how Jesus has changed our lives and sharing it. Peter told his experience along side the Word to show its power(Acts 11). Paul often told his story and also used poems from the current time to give the sense of scripture and God’s effect on his life. So I agree that context is central and the Holy Spirit helps believers, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t lead preachers to give their own witness that the scripture has been true in their lives. Story is the way God has communicated His truth through the ages (hence much of the Bible is narrative), it is special and I believe it should be used to aid understanding as long as it doesn’t take the place of the Word. You may disagree if you desire, that is your prerogative. But I believe there is great biblical precedence for using story and illustration in communicating God’s truth from His Word. You are right much of scripture is narrative. So we use Gods inspired narrative in preaching not our own. You can disagree with me if you want and continue to tell your story.
