The trick in most middle eastern countries for food and beer is find out where the Indian and Filipino people are eating and drinking as they are on very tight incomes but like to eat good food and a beer. When I was here I found a bar where the Indian taxi drivers went - they had pretty Indian ladies dancing, a beer was $1 and the food was a decent curry for about 50 cents! Avoid the western venues and it's very very cheap indeed!

Hello all, I am Omani citizen. After watching this video for Mr. Gabriel , I was able to note that he had stayed in Ruwi area which non of many Omanis are living there and there is nothing much to do in Ruwi. Plus, I think it was during Friday morning where it is consider a day off in the Sultanate. Every one is resting. If he could planned for staying in Shatti Al Qurum where the beauty of muscat speaks, he would enjoy it much rather than ruwi. Regarding the transportation, I admit it it is a bit expensive but he could burning more (2 Rials for a short trip from hotel to the bus station is freaking expensive I would not think of riding with him). It should be around 400 to 500 Baisa or even less. Regarding food, it is not expensive at all. If you decide to eat in a hotel it will be definitely expensive. Oman its a beautiful country where you can find many tourist attractions such traditional markets, beaches, mountains, valleys, greeneries, sand dunes, etc.. Oman welcomes everyone. Our Country is yours to enjoy. Thanks.

Gabriel, would be very interesting to know how much you end up paying on your trips in average, per month. We can see where you go, what you do, eat, visit, what you're wearing, where you're sleeping, etc, so would be very interesting to know how much would cost us for a similar way of traveling in the countries you go to. I'm saying average because there's a cost in India, other in Oman, one in Thailand, one in Iceland, etc, and an average figure for this monthly costs(except your recording/editing video gear) could pretty much tell us what finances are required to live like you...food, transport, clothes, acommodation, museums, health insurance, all together. Thanks in advance, cheers!

You're right, prices at the hotel are really over, many cheaper options outside. Burgers are sold from 1 rials outside. Nizwa is famous for its traditional souq n fort. Prices should be cheaper there 😊 You may as well want to see alhoota cave in Alhamra, 50km from nizwa. From there you may go up to Jebel Shams and explore Oman grand canyon. For transport, renting a small car could be more economical especially if you plan on several sites visits. Wish you all the best my friend, enjoy your time.

In short, I had work to do and there were no restaurants anywhere near my hotel. I would have spent eight dollars each way on a taxi to go to another part of the city, which also would have used up my evening. There are practicalities behind much of what I end up doing in my videos that I understand can be perplexing without knowing what else is going on. I knew I was going to get some crap for showing a cheeseburger in a "How expensive" video, but that's also relevant info for people to know who will be staying in hotels and getting room service. And it was just the cheapest, simplest option to get dinner in my room. Before and after the cheeseburger, I was editing. The last video of Muscat literally took the entire day to edit, morning to evening. So I have to work around getting the videos finished, and that cuts into what I end up doing. I spent six nights in Muscat but only filmed two videos there because I was so busy catching up with the other videos. But stay tuned, because the coming videos from Oman are going to be seriously awesome, once I got out of Muscat. Two days filmed but haven't had the chance to start editing them yet.

Nice one Gabe. I know things behind the scenes there are practicalities. I wasn't even going to comment on the cheeseburger but then I read what that person wrote. Considering you are all about uploading often there will be times when these things happen. And I guess the fact your best option was the room service cheeseburger is a reflection of Muscat - it's not like India where you just hit the streets and there's loads of options. By the way that last video was amazing, and the new GoPro is the perfect camera for you as you are walking and talking most of the time, the quality is much better than I imagined, and the stablisation is great.

Cool man, sounds good! And at least the burger was delicious. But I'd prefer to be able to walk out and find a nice selection of local restaurants. It turns out local restaurants are hard to find in Oman because apparently Omanis don't eat out very often. Most of the restaurants are Indian. But I found a local one in my current location, that will be in an upcoming video (not the next one).
