Before the question on everyone's mind was "Can my PC run Crysis?" it was "Can my PC run F.E.A.R?" And damn it I built a PC JUST so I could play this game. And it was absolutely glorious back then. The graphics were beautiful for mid 2000s, the style was great for a FPS thriller. When it was a shooter, it was a lot of fun. When it was a bad drug trip, it was a ride. And everything from the enemy AI to the soundtrack definitely puts this one toward the top. What a game. And never forget the ladder…

Bro this game needs a remake. I loved this game growing up. Additionally, the game had an ominous ambient track that would play and then randomly stop playing and it would be absolutely silent... Until you would get caught off guard by a jump scare or random soldier

This game was ahead of it's time. I remember a buddy walked in when I was fighting, went empty while in slow motion and jumped to head kick and kill and enemy behind a counter. He was like holy sh!t, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen in a game.

One issue is that ambient occlusion can be seen through smokes, Yeah I know that's because reshade. Every game has this issue when enabling AO in reshade. It will be great if there's a way to fix this (btw bad english)

I'm curious is there a way to change the field of view so that it's not cropping the first person model.. my understanding is correct it's only a third person model, hence why the animations for first person are kind of simple.. or at least that's what somebody told me LOL and it actually made sense that I think about it.. so you think that just fov wouldn't crop unless it's one of those locked verticals or something or is it locked horizontal I can't remember which one is the nasty one where if you try to make it wider it just crops down, like unreal 4 does.. by default anyways. Haven't played this thing in forever.. I don't think I ever remember going into the developer console or anything like that, cuz just as is it's one of the very few games that actually played good as it was.. and there wasn't really a big modding scene at the time.

Just crank up the anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering through NVIDIA with high res and MMod. Looks good to this day.

This looks great. But for people who want to experience it in a similar way: you have to install reshade, setup your depth buffer(enough tutorials on youtube), turn on MXAO and PPFX SSDO(some tweaking of values and sliders is required till you get desired level of Ambient occlusion) turn technicolor 2, colorfulness, SMAA, DELC sharpen, monocular cues. But turning on MXAO and PPFX SSDO might cause the frame rates to drop. With these effects im sure it will look close to the graphics level in this video. But not gonna lie, it does look fantastic here.

Было бы славно если бы у этого мода была совместимость с MModv2. Там есть одна кайфовая фишка, ради которой я этот мод устанавливаю. Он снимает лимит на отрывание конечностей у врагов и убирает эффект превращения в кровавый туман челиков трупы которых игре лень прорисовывать.

I would love it if somebody actually set out to try to make the original pseudo tactical shooter that they were initially going to make.. before they had to scale it back to what they ended up going with.. I just remember seeing the initial screens and the descriptions and being like wow this is literally equivalent of my peanut butter chocolate marshmallow sandwich, (if I liked peanut butter or chocolate LOL). what it turned out to be was you know just a marshmallow sandwich but damn good one, and even had you know sprinkles or something extra to carry it over with things like leaning and Kung Fu LOL all in the same ball of goodness.. like enough of a ball of goodness to make up for some of the worst automatic weapons fire shooting of any game I've played at the time other than maybe half life 2, a good example of what happens if you have a proper first person awareness, the guns can suck but if it looks like you're shooting them that's kind of what matters LOL When you look at things like the sequel or even that tripang 2 spiritual inspiration.. it's almost like they just genuinely missed the point, I mean the sequel missed a lot of everything, sometimes narrowly sometimes by a mile, usually on purpose LOL.. but even the rare people that have tried to to create that kind of arena sandbox system often miss the core principle of the control scheme for that game.. it wasn't about one way or trying to encourage you to do one thing or another, it was we have these are these these are tools you can have these tools and go do your thing.. some tools are better than others, some tools are terrible but more fun, mix and match as you see fit. It kills me that the trapang guys were adamant about not adding a lean mechanic because they wanted to have things like encouraging you to go forward in this modern game design trend of everything has to be in some sort of like forced play style and everything has to be in service to it. Turn around they got a demo just the other month or something, where they have a stationary cloak system in there LOL still no leaning but.. they have a cloak that rapidly expires when you move.. like.. cloaks are cool I guess, but.. I don't know maybe basic movement first? The juxtaposition of that versus their original rationale is.. well LOL. the idea that you can have everything all at once as always been something that I've thought that we were always trying to go for it with first person shooters, certainly the culmination of which would be crisis.. a game that weather intentional or not and I have a sneaking suspicion it might have been partially.. you can punch your way up a rock face and it looks like you're actually climbing, in a more interactive and fluid parkour system then dying light just with a combination of punching the wall jumping and mantling.. the things you could do in that game just like even the opening trailer didn't even have a fraction of the cool shit.. and when was the last time a CGI trailer was a limited scope of the actual gameplay? We really don't live in that world anymore, there's some ghosts and iterations of it in the modern day immersive Sim rarity, but even those are paling in comparison.. there's only so much you can do if you have to design your game around a game console controller, something that's 20 years old and design and was lacking back when it came out and hasn't changed one day, or at least meaningfully, it still kills me that the PS3 controller has so much tech within it, going on through generation 4 and 5 that is completely underutilized.. and it could be so much better than that if somebody actually tried, which they're actively trying not to apparently, rather programming the game to play itself instead. But even on the rare indie game that is exclusively PC focused outside of mil Sims, you really just don't get that philosophy anymore, and I actually don't know if people want it either.. they get confused real easy nowadays, 20 years of the same shit over and over again being taught to have everything clearly telegraphed in the most hand-holding of ways to the point where the game designs gotten so lazy that they just had a waypoint, which used to be in pandering excess of level design.. now is used in spite of level design or instead. controls that deviate from the norm are usually complained about, people don't even realize that they can go into the menu or get offended if they have to even though anybody that's older than 25 probably does that initially before they boot up any game on the PC just to get their settings in order never mind bind the controls. And the result of that aside from the bastardization standards of best fit for consoles, is you have a control scheme that may have at one point utilized the best of the keyboard but at this point it's just a mix and match of a bunch of things to a point where we've stopped having certain configurations and thus stopped having certain actual features in a game on account of wanting to use the keyboard the exact same way for certain functions.. and now people just get confused if you try to go around that, and shit.. now I bet you have to account for an even smaller keyboard with all the 60% keyboards going around.. like you still don't have to like we're still way ahead of the consoles but.. it's just disappointing is all. I'm so tired of the same flavor with a different color over and over again, or the same flavor but somehow worse with a different color.. and I'm very much tired of actual innovation being punished, and kind of stamped out when you think about it.. like 10 years ago yeah there was still somebody trying but fear became fear 2 crisis became crisis 2 and that should tell you what you need to know if anything.

Thanks Try renaming the save path and your hard drive. All save paths and folders must be in English and without using special characters. Also, you must have full administrator rights on the PC in the account through which you run the game. Write to me later whether it helped or not.

Yes, the game and mod are compatible with the steam deck, but you will have to adjust a lot yourself so that the game works stably with the graphics that are on the video!

We were already shitting on those eye-rape post processing effects over a decade ago! FEAR1's sharp, high-contrast visuals are an important part of its charm.
