you should do an all highway one (at speed limit). then a realistic highway one (10+ over the speed limit)

I own a 2023 X5 45e PHEV. I think the estimate is about 30 miles. I already have seen 43 miles at full charge as indicated range when 100% charged sometimes, and actually done 50+ mile drives with mixed conditions on single charge. Out of my 6700 miles on the car, about 5400 miles are in pure electric. For me, I have achieved better EV range in BMW's dedicated Hybrid Eco mode, over Electric mode. The car is super efficient when allowed to coast instead of regen braking, and the big heavy SUV is averaging 3miles/kw already. I am hoping to keep improving the performance as gain more experience handling the PHEV. With the features, the driving experience and cost I managed out of this deal, pretty good experience so far.

Great review, guys! Today I am driving my Kia Sorento PHEV (in mixed condition), and I am happy to report that I got 4 miles more than the EPA estimate of 32 miles, turning out 36 miles EV range total in New York City driving on local streets and highway.

We've got a 5 series 530e, bit older it's a 2018. So less range but I can confirm that the effective gas mileage and savings at the end of the day is pretty impressive. You mentioned at 7:10 that the efficiency on the highway is surprisingly good. That's because as a design decision BMW puts the electric motor per-transmission, which ends up benefiting its efficiency on the freeway/highway at the likely cost of efficiency on the roadway.

I actually went out in July and put $2500 down on a 2024 330e, same beautiful Brooklyn grey color. It was your videos that got me interested in this car. At 3.2 miles / kWh, only 8 kWh of energy. I am assuming there is a buffer as a protection of the battery. Could be better with range, if car was lighter weight and had efficient tires. I am currently driving a BMW i3, new since 2014 and it works for me, but still looking for a longer distance car. Plug-in hybrids are the way to go in the US until better charging infrastructure and EV technology exists.

@MoneyMakerRayRay8 ай бұрын
@@tombombadil473 Yeah you do feel the slow down without charge as you lose the electrical assist, but the car does charge itself back up with breaking/coasting to try and maintain it but it's not enough like "2 miles" then back to 0. Xtraboost is there but only for launch then your back to just the engine. I still love the car, thinking about tuning it it with JB+ to make up for it.

I've been driving i3 BEVs since 2014. Leased a '14 then '17 now own a '21. I've learned temperature has a significant impact on range. The EPA range estimate for my '21 is 153 miles. But when temperatures are in the mid 80s, I've seen 190+ miles on the guess-o-meter. I'm also used to much higher efficiency. All my i3 average in the 4 mi/kWh range but I've seen 6.5 mi/kWh when conditions were close to ideal.

Why did the screenshot at check-in #1 show the miles remaining in gas as 150 miles, but after you were done with the interstate driving at check-in #2 it went down to 142 miles? If it was in all-electric mode, wouldn't the gas engine miles remaining stay the same?

Why can't they just put a bigger battery into these PHEVs so that they can go 100 miles on EV range? I'd be willing to pony up some extra $ for that.
@stevenc52273 ай бұрын
The battery would have to be a lot bigger, thus the range will drop the heavier the car is, also when the battery runs down it would use a lot more fuel to carry dead heavy batteries, in other words the weight would outweigh the benefits of having a larger battery.
