Rules and Explanations
Rules: (1) Only use the one Pokémon in Battle, others for HMs are fine. (2) No Items in battle (3) No Glitches* (4) Set Mode (5) No saving in the Elite Four (6) No evasion moves
Badge Boost "Glitch" Explanation: When you collect odd numbered badges the game boosts a stat by 12.5%. Brock gives ATK, Surge DEF, Koga SPE, and Blaine SPC (in game text is wrong). When any of your stats are modified (even by you using a move like Withdraw, or your opponent using Leer) the badge boosts are re-applied. So If you use Swords Dance, you also gain *an additional 12.5% in Speed/Defence/Special (on top of the 12.5% you were supposed to be getting). When you level up, the game corrects this error, and only the non-glitch 12.5% remains. Because of how difficult it is to avoid, I've allowed for it to be exploited, since opponents will spam Leer/Growl anyways, and this way battles are less random. Red/Blue are extremely buggy, so there's always going to be some glitches present, and because of how unavoidable this one is, it is allowed in runs, and considered more like a special Generation 1 mechanic as opposed to a glitch.

Speaking of weird gen 1 RNG... On one of my playthroughs I traded myself a level 70 Cloyster to go through the game, but since I didn't have the right badges to control him he _should've_ been hard to control. I found out that, for some odd, inexplicable reason, I could make him attack successfully every turn so long as I did his moves in order. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, back to 1st, etc. If I deviated at all during the battle he'd start to be unreliable as intended, and I'd have to reload the save to get back his flawed obedience.

Same reason you can fight Safari Zone Pokémon on the east coasts of Cinnabar and Seafoam. That particular type of tile is accidentally coded in as a grass tile. It doesn't help that in early gens it gets no good Bug moves, and Heracross often exists alongside it in the games you can catch it in and I always prefer using Heracross. @@Dragostorm21 Yeah, I know he doesn't use items. I was just saying. A OHKO-move only run doesn't have to be only one pokémon tho. Even if it's luck-based, you may still use Pinsir, Rhydon and Kingler for example, taking Pinsir into Earthquakes, Rhydon into Normal-type attacks, and Kingler into Water-type attacks for example, to maximize the amount of hits you take before running out of HP. And PP wouldn't be a problem that way, or at least not that much.

@@rordongamsay8478 Still a pretty big RNG fest, but that is more manageable. Despite lacking a Bug-type move or any way to harm Ghosts directly, Pinsir managed to stomp the game very effectively. Swords Dance is just very OP in Gen 1.
@Bruce_Fernandes
@Bruce_Fernandes 8 ай бұрын
Bug type moves were mostly crap in gen 1, the strongest being twineedle and only breedrill can have it, not to mention that the only 3 ghost types in gen 1 were all dual typed ghost/poison, meaning bug type moves were practically useless back then.

@@Bruce_Fernandes Quick correction but Bug moves vs. Gengar/etc. would actually be okay in Gen 1. Poison, for whatever reason, took super-effective damage from Bug, so it would've been hitting neutral vs. Gengar.

@@mr.number9279 right. Anyway, gen 1 had very few offensive bug type moves and all of them quite weak in base power, not to mention also locked exclusively for certain pokemon that don't shine when it comes to their stats( with the exception of jolteon, that shines in speed and learns pin missile).

I'd like to mention, I love how consistent you kept the thumbnails. I recently noticed on a different channel I like that they don't, so I often miss out on vids because I don't know it's part of the series I like. With you, it's clean, consistent and very clear what's going on. Might be usefull eventually to make a noticeable addition to signify the generation, once you have done all pokemon in Red (twice ofcourse, optimal strats, you could easily do the starters much faster knowing what you know now)

I think it would be nice to see the full tier list but just broken into two columns (kept in order, just the left side being the higher tiers and right side being lower tiers). That way, we can still see the overview more easily, and also it would show up on the video format and aspect ratio easily. To differentiate evolved and non evolving Pokemon from the first forms and such, you could maybe add icons or change the font or font color.

Hey Jrose, loving that you're fully into the middle third of the dex now! As you start to run low on single form and first stage train wrecks are you planning to do any mid-gen pokemon? While if the first stage beats the game it's clear the second will, but it would be interesting to see if any middle stage pokemon can beat their final form or lose to their first stage due to levelup break points, levelup learnsets, or typing working against some evolutions.

Its entirely possible that evolved pokemon with all around better movesets and stats still lose to the first form pokemon simply because they need more exp to lv up. So yes, its absolutly worth doing evolved pokemon to find these surprising pokemon

The only time OHKO moves are worth it is if you can set their accuracy with a move like Mind Reader to make them not miss on the next turn. In reality this would be super prediction reliant, but in game, its pretty fun since the AI almost never switch. Only the Poliwrath line and Articuno are able to pull this off, which makes it fairly unique. I also like how Poliwrath can learn Hypnosis and Dynamic Punch, so you can go all in on the Mind Reader even if Focus Punch is probably the better option when its available

@@Jsn02682 That is actually correct. Gen 1 is the only generation where the accuracy of OHKO moves can be buffed in the typical way. After gen 1, OHKO moves accuracy uses a formula based on the Pokemon's level that is entirely independent of accuracy boosts

Even as horrible as it is in competitive, it still has pretty good bulk, and even with halved Attack for 5 turns, Regigigas has such high base Attack that for a solo playthrough, it shouldn't be _that_ big of a deal. I am really really enjoying your videos. And I watch them instantly, when I see you upload one. But I got one minor criticism. I already know, you will use rather mimic, Substitute or both and it takes some of the tension, because you already know from the beginning, how you will win agains Elite 4. it would be awesome, if you upgrade your challenge by not using Mimic oder substitute or only if it’s the last opportunity. Mir scheint es, dass sie den Zweck dieser Video Reihe nicht verstanden haben. Jrose11s goal is to rank each and every one of the 151 pokemon based on their viability in pokemon red/blue. Damit das Ranking so objektiv wie möglich ist, müssen ALLE der jeweiligen Spezies zur verfügung stehenden Mittel genutzt werden. Which include mimic and substitute. Welche nun mal einer der einfachsten und konsistenttesten Wege sind die Agathe Lotterie zu umgehen. Thus you should understand why he uses them every time, they just are that good.

Unfortunately due to how Gen 1 it's rather hard to add any real variety. Besides if Mimic was banned pokemon like Scyther wouldn't have beaten this challenge. Assuming Jrose continues these for Gen 2 and further we may see more variety there although I still expect some similar patterns to emerge. P. S. besides using German "oder" in one spot your english was alright.
