Actually in Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels, you can actually get lava in 1-2. If you go on top past the exit pipe and take the 1st pipe you get to, it will take you to a section with some blue lava, which apparently is an actual thing in real life. In the SNES version, they changed it from blue lava to red lava.
