In order to get a sub five minute time, you need insane precision and timing that only a select few people have the ability to pull off. I think it's pretty incredible you even got a low six minute time. I don't have an NES but if I did I would probably never get a sub 10 minute run. I specialize in shorter speedruns like individual tracks in Mario Kart as well as SMM2 levels.

That Dark Bowser theme in the end was literally my favorite song for a few years, epic finale to an epic game. Probably not advisable to speed run Bowsers inside story though lol.

I never watched a speed run stream nor am I a speed runner, but two things I can suggest is to not to jump for the top of the flag pole. The flag pole animation, regardless of where you jump on it takes a second to register where you landed and the timer stopped when you reach the flag pole before you slide down. I mention the timer because of the fireworks at the castle. If the number on the timer ends in a 1, 3, or 6, it will shoot that number fireworks, extending your time you spend on that level.
