Less confidence, more just sheer stupidity, thinking they can win a melee against a guy who can regularly stop speeding cars with nothing but his bare hands and some string or who can get back up after being smashed through concrete walls and continue on fighting at peak capacity despite having multiple broken bones. If it were a cutscene, you know Peter or Miles would be one-shoting each thug without breaking a sweat, even the larger ones. It’s the same thing with the Arkham series, with each thug taunting and threatening Batman as if he isn’t the same man who has probably already hospitalized some of them at some point with his track record.

And likewise, knows how to reel back on gratuitous gameplay for the story when necessary as to not get repetitive You can trigger an accidental/intentional option to not have to fight bosses or mooks anymore at the back half/end of the game if you're too strong and grounded too hard so you don't need oveelevel to stay ahead anymore Basically beating an enemy so bad it scars the others into running away whenever they see you going forward This made playing the other parts of the game and story required to beat it WAY easier since their wasn't 1 hit ko unnescary enemies and bosses trying to jump you midway while dealing with a puzzle or maze or some thing So many Will details and secrets of a pretty much every boss in the main character is coded with the level of common sense as to not make gameplay repetitive
