Personally. I believe a multiverse story can work if A. It has characters and stories across other universe to care for B. Had far more unique What Ifs on a specific effect changed C. Tie it to whatever theme is it going for And D. Have it not be nostalgia bait. Unless if it’s cameos or crossovers of familiar versions like in Spider-Verse
@bluegatito8684 Жыл бұрын
The thing about the cameos from Spider-Verse is that, while there are other adaptations of the past from Spider-Man, the most of them are Spider-Men from the comics that only die-hard fans of said comics would know, and if anything, it's used more to show how big the Spider Society really is.

True but as it’s own thing, it still works with good writing. That and even if it’s a different name from another world rather than the usual Peter Parker or Gwen Stacy or if it having the same idea of a sci fi world IE 2099 and Peni Parker, they both have different, unique, and familiar takes that still bring true to the character and doesn’t get the same kind of place boring due to the execution of it such as Spider-Man with Evangelion and 2099 involving a more Cyberpunk apocalyptic feel with bit of an edgy dark and gritty vibe to it. More so on the character than the world but the point still stands

Really glad that Fionna and Cake wasn't a cash grab, it felt like the creators were trying to actually give Simon closure while also showing that Fionna isn't like Finn. She initially wants the extraordinary but later realizes that what she yearns for is the mundane, she isn't a carbon copy of Finn who, even in his old age is still someone who wants to constantly put himself in danger because thats what makes him happy. Fionna's arc in the story is really beautiful, she goes from wanting to live her fantasy to realizing that those same fantasies are what put everyone she cares about in danger and realizing that she was much happier with her ordinary life, sure it sucked but thats what being an adult is like. It sucks and there are moments where we just want to escape from the boring aspects of life but at the same time there are simple joys that make it worth living. Talking to a friend, gardening, spending time with your pet, all things we take granted but they are all things that make us happy.

Just look at the most politically powerful character in the show, PB. I do wonder what he would’ve done had he been able to free Betty from GOLB. Especially since he came to realize how one-sided their relationship was even with them being happy. Perhaps they'd have amicably broken up so Betty could pursue her own aspirations.

This is how I would write alternate timelines and alternate dimensions too. It isn't just "WHAT IF" but going beyond it. What if is just the 1st step.. using that what if.. is what makes it great. And in my opinion... such a story can show: "Yes that one decission you could have made, could been better and made you happier." No strings attached all of that.. show the fact that, that one mistake may have had no consiquence to you.. but then to have you realize... "This ain't who I am...I made the mistake and found different things..." The point of What if stories is to show a new clean creative perspective... The point of multiverse stories is to use those clean perspectives to show stories of acceptance, overcoming adversity despite everything, loving what you have and such. And strangely enough, most multiverse stories ACTUALLY do this even some bad ones. The problem is do you set it up correctly and pay it off.
@luigiboi4244 Жыл бұрын
There's one ingredient I think Fionna and Cake has that other media using the Multiverse trope has forgotten about: Heart. With Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige has focused less on "I want to make this big story-driven artpiece" into "Let's see how much money I can make while also brainwashing the internet into constantly talking about it while working our VFX staff to death." DC Comics is struggling to find its footing because every time they see something wrong with the comics or want to put out more issues they think "let's reboot everything to drive away our audience to make more money!" Spider-Verse kind of gets a pass because Phil Lord and Chris Miller care so much about it, but I only bring it up because of how hypocritical Phil Lord and Chris Miller have become since making The LEGO Movie. They are constantly micromanaging their employees, and one of them even goes out of their way to cut already finished sequences and have their animators and storyboard artists start from scratch. They are less focused on making a good movie with their team, and more focused on making a flawless movie trilogy by unknowingly driving their employees under their heels. As for Fionna and Cake, it doesn't play it off as a cheap gimmick. It uses it as an interesting setpiece to also progress character development. It's carefully thought out and although it may stumble a couple times it still shows care and heart from those who worked on it.
@thexp905 Жыл бұрын
Something I haven't really heard mentioned a lot, is "Why Cheers?" If you stop to think about it, the intro lyrics are about escapism, but then they are also about being with those who care. Literally showing the beginning and the end, right from the start. That's only the tip of the iceberg about what can be conveyed through Cheers.

Aside from one or two very minor things (mainly my theories not panning out, but i also would have liked another song or two), i absolutely loved this series from beginning to end, even more so than Distant Lands. We had new stories and characters and worlds as well as seeing what old friends were up to and having some beautiful closure for both Simon and Fionna and Cake. I loved how it ended, with it potentially leaving room for another season, but also in a way that's just really nice for the characters. And I'm also kind of relieved the Lich got cubed; he's been an excellent antagonist, but if this series does go on, I would like to see new bad guys instead of just returning to the same Lich well again. And this is one of the few IPs that can get me to enjoy a multiverse, which is otherwise a very stale trope. But it was set up in AT early enough, and the worlds we see have all been really unique and interesting, and it works for me.

I also think it's fitting that the crowns true power isn't giving it's wearer ice magic and making them go crazy. It's power is granting the greatest wish of it's first wearer. Evergreen made it to stop the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. But instead of that happening, it fell into Gunter's hands, who wanted nothing more than to be like the man who raised him. So he ended up getting killed by the asteroid. Furthermore, the crown drove Simon mad, but it let him live to raise Marceline who stopped the world from being taken over by vampires. The crown isn't good or bad. It all depends on the circumstances. I also think it's fitting that Simon does the same as the two ice elementals we've seen. Evergreen and Patience both did everything in their power to prevent chance, but ultimately failed.

Simon grows he not taking out his anger on the multiverse he coping and doing his best he taking the journey serious, but at his speed. Fionna is a lot like season 2 plus Morty who only able to grow cause they get out of the cycle of there dimension they are able to experience more and when they finally kill something it rattles them the learn to think to be better. Then there cake who is like summer only in party vibes cause cake definitely cares about fionna she the third wheel, but she does it perfectly she always trying to push the other two to move foward or distract them from a tradegy just kinda accepting what going on and wanting to be on her phone. Honestly I think there a lot of worlds that could be made like what is it was Betty who found marceline, what if Finn wasnt a hero, what if the ice crown was worn by other characters have a world where a young Marceline see Simon loosing him self to the crown and she steals it not wanting to loose another parental figures and since you don't age with the crown cause of immortality is stuck unaging and acting like a spoiled child stimming from the problems she felt to deal with her abandonment issues when she befriends someone she freezes and forces them to basically stay etc you get the idea...Ugh wish I had a laptop this series was so amazing I also know Garyxmarshal is a lot more supported and less toxic then the original pairing plus the winter king slowly becoming a new onceler for thumblr the show knew where to swing and score a home run every single time.

Fionna and Cake had so much missed potential in it, mostly in the later episodes. They underutilized so many characters and plot points. All the characters Fionna and Cake meet along the way that appeared in the final battle did basically nothing besides the Squirrel, and we were still missing characters like PB and the Fionna and Cake fan girl. They also didn’t use or even reference the Farmworld Lich Hand at all despite that even being directly linked to the multiverse in AT. Something that also didn’t come up at all was the gliches Fionna and Cake did through the show. It seemed really important because it ended the plot line with the Ice Prince. I thought the glitched away crown was going to be utilized later. Despite underusing a lot of characters and elements, the show did better with the multiverse concept than most others that try.

I have nothing to say on your thoughts on Fiona and Cake. Great breakdown on how well this series works and what it does for Simon and Fiona as characters and how well it fits into the regular AT lore so well. I will say though that yeah something like Sonic Prime probably did get Netflix going through the whole multiverse premise... Sonic IS a series very much about different realities and multiverses and that's something the Archie comics did since... 1994 even years before Spider man the Animated series finale that had the multiverse let alone Spider Verse so it's not that out of left field for Prime to do it. Especially since Prime isn't even the first Sonic SERIES to have multiverses in it. Sonic Boom had a multiverse and before that Sonic X (as Chris and Sonic's world were separate realities) and even Sonic Underground had one so Sonic Prime is really just the first to focus on that idea and even then through a unique set up in how the paradox prism even works.

Okay, no no no just stop, juststop! Multiverse is a staple of marvel, DC and a bit of sonic so no they didn't just hop on a bandwagon, that bandwagon jas been sitting on their front porch for over a decade.

For real like I don’t get how people are trying to say multi-verse equals bad
@bunnyconcubus8468 Жыл бұрын
@@stuffcereal8950 Mostly due to cash grab big execs failing to understand what makes multiverses work in the first place and just wanting to use it as an excuse to shove cameos in it. The multiverse as a concept made by DC was a way to both introduce other versions of characters without breaking canon and tie up some loose ends which has evolved over time, but the big suits don't understand that.

Quick sidenote, the "world" that Simon goes to at the end is technically the future of Ooo. Now idk if that means there's potentially time travel to come in season 2, or if this is in fact a separate world that's placed farther ahead in the timeline. Though that 2nd option wouldn't make sense, since we know every world that the trio visited was running at the same pace as the other worlds. We know this because the Lich very clearly waited some amount of time before the trio got there. More than likely the same amount of time that's passed since his wish came true, which would be 15 years or so 🤔
@StofenThe1st Жыл бұрын
Prismo does actually have the ability to do some time travel, as evidenced by when he moved the Farmworld crown to get it destroyed in an explosion. But in this case it’s safe to say it was because of Golbetty streaming his consciousness into Shermy around 1000 years into Ooo’s future.

The idea of a multiverse is actually more complicated than you think with how you gotta have structure of which place is were with following others that they got a connection with each other just something different in there with also the fact places like Disney or Warner Bros. keep using that term where it's a different cannon but in reality it's just a mess that they want to get out of a argument from a mess they cause but for something like say Space-Jam A New Legacy in regards of the film quality it does it's multiverse make sense since there all the property's that are own by Warner Bros. even it's from a server I still stand by that in terms of it's structure

I hate how just stop hates prime and spiderman man no way home like with spiderman no way home its about peter wanting to help the villans but muiltiverse travel was never involved once and was still set in the main universe and tobey and andrew being the best parts and its less about the muiltiverse and more about peter messing up the muiltiverse that cost villans to get here and he he tires but fails with green goblin and lost antmay the other 2 spiderman come into the picture and help peter realize that he needs to do the right thing and peter 1 amost killed green goblin until peter 2 stop him and made him realize that he's about to make the same mistake that peter 2 did and peter 3 actually getting redemption by saving mj and he was holding back emotions because he finally did what he wasn't able to do for Gwen and with prime it was about sonic having to leran from his mistake and realized that the shards splitting and losing his firends was his fault and in s2 shadow even called sonic out and made sonic realize that him splitting the shards was his biggest mistake so yey incursion just stop really needs to watch these two before judging it and it's bullshit that he assumes that these are bad just because it's muiltiverse related and said it's the same even if in spiderman no way home it was still set in the main universe and with prime the shards and also yey I do get where he's coming from with muiltiverse stuff but if he's going to say that there the same without actually watching it than yey bull

I wanted to correct 2 things here: there ARE universes that always existed, the universes brought by wishes only happen on ocasion, not every wish creates a universe, Prismo himself says that only sometimes the wishes create universes, and decond that not every wish creates a universe, Chelby wished his girlfriend a pony and she got one, not any new universe was created for that
