No one was close. And his physical strength was inhuman. He crushed my jaw towards the end if camp and he took care of me for 3 years as I recovered. I think two other things that aren't often mentioned are the change from 15 rounds to 12 rounds and from 8oz to 10oz gloves. This allowed a lot of older boxers to stay around for longer and compete at the top level as they needed less stamina (and in fact embarrassingly they had better stamina than some of the younger fighters) and the 10oz gloves meant that punches were slightly easier to take which is helpful for guys who's ability to take a punch is on the decline.

one thing i've picked out about great fighters is they favor styles where each attack does 2 jobs. the punch loads up the next one, or turns into a screen or frame, or turns into the guard. there's no wasted movement. if it completely whiffs it can be converted into something else you can work with.

I actually think Mike Tyson would get cooked against either version of Foreman. Foreman was stronger and in style he could easily set up Tyson with fight ending shots. See what Fireman did to Joe Frazier who was Tyson’s prototype. Tyson’s best hope is knock out Foreman early and Foreman had a god level chin. Foreman has only been knocked out once in his career but other wise he’s always ended fights on his feet. There is an andectote from where Tyson straight up told Don King his promoter that he refused to fight against Foreman. His old trainer Cus told Tyson to avoid fighters like Foreman

I think a pre prison Tyson beats George. I know people make the Frazier comparison but Mike was a fast starter and Joe was a notoriously slow starter. Mike also didn’t bend over at the waist like Joe. Mike would have given George too many angles and Forman would pay big for every miss. Now an older Mike who didn’t use angles and jump shifts as he use to may have had a hard time getting through that jab and I don’t know how it would have turned out if George ether clipped him with that right or dug into Mike with body shots that would slow Mike in later rounds. @@jayedwards4787 Good point! Something else I've noticed is that both of them were vulnerable to big right hands over their jabs. I think Holmes would be more vulnerable to Foreman than Foreman would be to Holmes in this one area.

Foreman vs Liston would have been such an interesting fight. The two biggest HWs of their era and with some interesting differences.

Easily top 3 goat in my view. No one will ever win the heavy weight title 20 years apart. And what an inspiration as well!
