7:05 - we now mostly know the answer. When the league informed Mark Davis about the emails Mark was pretty much silent. At first. It’s my belief that the initial information bothered Mark but it wasn’t enough to just up and can Gruden. A couple days later when it was released he probably wondered in his head why the hell this was being made public now, before any investigation at all? When it all leaked, his hand was forced and he pushed Gruden to resign. Make of that what you may.

In that bit you're referring to, the guy who is about to use the N word, only does so when he feels comfortable enough in the situation. He is obviously with a group of white men, he looks around to see if anyone can hear what he's about to say, and then he goes for it. Gruden obviously felt comfortable enough to type out those e-mails and send them along. Right or wrong, he had to feel some level of comfort first.

Thrown away? He was forced to resign his power position for a high profile organization. He's free to find work in any field he chooses, just as his potential employers are free to hire him or not. My guess is he will never work for the NFL again, but it's possible, once the smoke clears, that he could get a local radio or podcast gig. If not, he can always get a job as the nightshift manager for a convenience store. He is free. As for his e-mails, it was beyond foolish of him, or anyone, to think they are private.
