Basketball is not the most popular team sport in France, it's soccer by far. Also, rugby has less players/members than basketball but is more popular with more fans and more money. So, I'd say that basketball is the 3rd popular team sport.

@@lioneljohnson9309 No, far from it actually. Just look at the huge difference in crowds in rugby stadiums vs basketball arenas in France. Although basketball is getting more and more followers, the big difference is that the best rugby league in the world is the french league, whereas french basketball league is far from the NBA. This might change over the decades, but rugby is still vastly more popular than BB in France and this isn't about to change any time soon, just like football will not be surpassed by any other sport for decades and decades at least.

Nice video, there is some few mistakes because not every player played at l’insep before going to the nba or great teams in Europe .Many of them did played at l’insep. But the the key is the detection of the prospects early on at age thirteen where the best youngsters of their age get together to represent their region to compete against each other few times during the year. That’s why they all know each other. Then, a selection is made at 14 where they made a team of prospects to develop them for two years. Then, the best of the best of go to l’insep or few very good club team that develops players. The players of l’insep plays against grown men in the third division. Out of l’insep, they can go only in first division on division two for few years. For example, risacher did play at l’insep. He went straight up in the pro league. His first year , he did not play a lot (Tony Parker’s team). The second year, he changed team and play and the rest is history.

French basketball is more team driven and versatile than the divas the US basketball create. edit : BASKETBALL IS NOT THE MOST POPULAR TEAM SPORT IN THE COUNTRY ( check your sources before ).

In fact, Tony Parker has an American father and a Dutch mother, and was born in Belgium. He's just a paper Frenchman, but hardly anyone knows that. So in reality, he's not really French There are so many internationals, it's hard to say who's who in the sport these days. They've all become, for the most part, unattached in the sport.

@@muchinoo-40 Canada only has good guards, France showed it by destroying Canada in the Paint.... Because in addition to the 2 french towers, you had the best PF of Euroleague in Yabusele and one of, if not the best C in Euroleague with Lessort Lets see what Edey Can Do to proove me wrong, but for now Canada aint no threat to anyone with Olinyk/Powell in the Paint

Also, France is the european country with the most black people. And a lot of those NBA prospects are sons of african bball players who came to the french league or african pro jumpers (like Wemby or Diaw) Most of them weren’t too skilled because there were no academies in Africa, so if they were able to become pro it’s because of their body. They passed on their body through genetics to their french sons who could get proper coaching thus creating serious NBA prospects (Batum, Sarr, Traoré, etc.)

France lost big time vs Germany in the first round and almost lost vs Japan. No need to make them bigger than they are, at least right now

they still went to Olympic Games final twice in a row 😉

Germany was world champion and losing against them in the first round wasn't a bad idea so they were surprised later. Canada was a very good team too, maybe the best contender after Serbia.

The difference is that they are coming in France because they want to, and for many of them, it can be their parents who came to built a life, or even their grand parents. Since WWI, there has been some immigration, from Europe first, spain, Italy, Poland and other countries who were poorer at the time. And they weren't French colonies, right? This people could try to go to the USA, too, but they didn't, they did another choice, by and for themselves.
