I"m french and event when i try to get rid of my chauvinism i still think we have one of the best model for team sports devellopement in the world. Since 20ish year we are serious contenders in many world sports event (basketball, soccer, handball, volley ball, rugby...) in both men and women competitions. I can't think of any other nation can that be a serious contender in 5 worldly spread team sports. The other side of the coin is that we have basivcally the same model for individual sports (tennis, athletism...) and we really struggle to have top world individual athletes
@mathislenglet55283 ай бұрын
It started for individual sport i think, let's not forget Lebrun brothers and Léon marchand for example, we're developing great talent but it only started in individual sport
@murlocanonyme3 ай бұрын
@@mathislenglet5528 no, we always have some genius in individual sport, but we never really had a good "production line" of genius, except in some specific sports such as fencing. In the case of swimming, we've always been pretty good tho, just not as good as the US or Australia for example.

Video that has almost nothing to do with the actual title "Why French Basketball is Taking Over the NBA". Video is about what would be 2028 team USA vs Team France at the 2028 olympics.

Yes it’s true the US is gonna get humbled in 2028… Not just because this year we got bailed out by three players old enough to run for President of the United States. But also there’s no future clear cut MVP caliber player in team USA. The last US player to win an MVP is James Harden. While France is gonna have a prime Wemby who looks like a generational player. Like a Kareem, Jordan, and LeBron type player… But France has something on us, they play FIBA tournaments with their national teams, we don’t we just throw some random All-Stars together and hope for the best while other countries are building teams with chemistry.
@Emile974273 ай бұрын
I think player stability and some serious collective preparation is a decisive way not to be humbled in the future, because even if the top best players will continue to com from abroad for a while, there's a depth, about high level players, that no country is getting at, currently.

One note on Nando De Colo though... He's portrayed as an NBA bust but as a rookie in 2012, he was on that Spurs team that was one huge Ray Allen shot away from winning an NBA championship. De Colo sat on the bench for San Antonio because Tony Parker was the starter and De Colo as a rookie was competing with Patty Mills... I think De Colo just wanted to play so he went back to Europe to play Euro League and ball out there.

Yabu never got a chance in the NBA, calling him a bust is not fair imo. I hope he gets real minutes with philly

USA is so lucky that Europe is a continent divided in so many countries... Combined to reach the population of USA it could have been so unplayable for USA. Even the old Yougoslavia could have been a contender

This all depends on Wembys development, if things go the way i see them, theres no roster going to keep wemby from destroying every floor he touches. There must be basketball Gods because his situation is just perfect. Pop as his coach, he now has the 1 person outside of Lebron with the highest IQ the game has probably ever seen as a teammate now in chris paul. If Chris never plays a single minute with the spurs, the amount of sheer knowledge he can give to wemby about the game in the film room and practice will be invaluable. SA may have an absolute monster brewing

France lost the Olympic Finals against Team USA in 2000... only by 10 points (Risacher's father was on the floor). Sure TP and Boris made a lot but BB has a lot of lovers in France for 30 years. It just needed time to improve significantly. Now with Wemby, Risacher, Traore, Sarr, Salaun... and other surprises to come, they can be an international contender. It's so hard to compete when you play Team USA : having one or two good players isn't enough.

The french INSEP has always been producing great generation of players in many sport like football and handball un which france is dominating. Issue with basketball is that football has always been too big in france and 100% childrens start sport by playing football but in the last 10 years basketball has started to boom like never before. There is like x100 more people learning basketball over football. This is one of the main reason that made INSEP producing so many great players than before. Also because the competition for football is just too hard the level is very hight in france.

Super Nice video. Vert good analysis of us future team but, and I admit my French bias, its kind of missing 2 points : 1. What Will Be French future roster (you speak about it at the end but its a bit short) and 2. European teams are more used to fiba type rules. Will usa be capable to adapt? I am not an expert wise enough to respond to that question BUT I do have the impression that the usa get more and more used to the Game. I saw the French usa Olympics finals in 2000 and I played against some of thèse players (practice etc I was not that good neither) but france was not that far White the talent gap was absurd. Anyway, I do think the us is going to adapt more and more and its cool… more Battles better basketball… love it (and just one point for france : we have 1/5 of your inhabitants… 😅😅😅 ok I am off. Great video thanks

There are more and more French players in the NBA who are doing well, but the USA remain the big favorites in this sport, basketball in France is only the 4th team sport

French basketball has the best of both worlds. They have African descent French citizen (whether mixed or full blood black) and they have the proper coaching of the fundamentals. The USA also has the Black descent athletes but not the same discipline of the fundamentals.

What does it have anything to do with basketball? Current Serbia is stronger than current France, arguably stronger than team USA. Basketball has been mostly been played by Black players in France for decades and yet the European teams which were at the top all these years were Spain and some Central and Eastern European countries including Russia with no Black players in those teams. Most Black players in the French team are Black not because being Black gives you some superiority but simply because like in the US basketball in France is mostly played by Black kids.

They are the first country with a big black population to take basketball seriously. I always said if countries like France, UK, Brazil and countries in Africa and Caribbean took basketball seriously the USA domination of the sport would be over, because there are better black athletes in these countries.
