Giannis is like a really tall version of Russel Westbrook, not much you can do that doesn't automatically send them to the free throw line. NBA rules today are pretty whack. But no kid today plays defense so that's understandable.

They never stopped Jordan, Kobe, LeBron, Dr. J or anyone else from pushing and shoving to the rim. Can't imagine why they would stop him from playing physical ball. He certainly doesn't need a jumper but he will develop one like LeBron did and become unstoppable on every spot on the court, he's only been playing basketball for 5 years after all.

shuckl3 the reason he needs a jumper is because even though his numbers are good (even though they are inflated since his team is so bad), people sag off him and can double off of him and on his teammates ; this ruins the spacing. He dosent even need to develop a 3. Just a consistent mid range
@aslan2709
@aslan2709 6 жыл бұрын
First of all, he's not averaging 31. Regardless, the question of whether Giannis "needs" a jumpshot all depends on how high you think he ceiling should be. If he keeps doing as he's doing, he'll get a little better through experience and be a perennial all-star, probably a perennial 1st team All-NBA. If he develops a shot however, he can likely become a perennial MVP and perennial NBA champion. It's a question about "great" vs "legendary".

T simplisze the play that else was talking about 2 people screen/ pick then Giannis passes to guard and rolls to the basket (if you know basketball basics). For those who don't understand that two people stand in the way and Giannis passes and then runs and gets a pass to the basket/insise/rim and scores

He's not taking "long strides" he's actually jumping between steps. His move from 0:37 to 0:41 was therefor traveling which was not called for some reason. He's not taking too many steps. If you catch the ball while dribbling, with the left foot on the ground (0:37), then when the right foot comes down (0:39), that is the pivot foot, when you lift the pivot foot off the ground (0:40), you cannot bring it down again before passing or shooting (0:41). which he does, so he is OK are far as steps are concerned. But the above rule assumes you are RUNNING (or walking) not JUMPING. When you RUN one foot is always on the ground. When you JUMP both feet are off the ground. If you JUMP then when you land neither foot can be the pivot foot. Furthermore you must land on both feet SIMULTANEOUSLY, so at 0:39 he is in violation. You can jump again after landing, but not take another step (or another jump!) before jumping again. If you let people jump like that, essentially you have what the Olympics calls a triple jump. There are people who can triple jump almost 60 feet! You'll have people stopping their dribbles at half court and dunking the ball. "A player who catches the ball while moving or dribbling may stop and establish a pivot foot as follows: When one foot is on the playing court: 1. That foot shall be the pivot foot when the other foot touches in a step; 2. The player may jump off that foot and simultaneously land on both; neither foot can then be the pivot foot."
@daleftuprightatsoldierfield
@daleftuprightatsoldierfield 6 жыл бұрын
Hugh Isthat when you are running, there are times when both of your feet are off the ground, and longer strides means more time with both feet off the ground while running.

I think he was highlighting the fact that Giannis can operate as the point guard and center in a simple pick and roll play which is pretty unreal. Also, if you watch the play over again he is guarded by the PG, SF, and C and they are ALL mismatches. That's what's crazy about running P&R with Giannis.

He is a freak of nature, one in a billion therefore he haven't revolutionized anything since he doesn't bring anything new to the table, other guys can't do what he does cause they are not as geneticaly gifted as this guy so what kind of revolution does he bring? He is just tall, athletic, fast and long guy with ability to finish around the rim, that's all, ya'll acting like he is super skilled but he ain't he is just super build for basketball. Take away his cutting ability and you get what? Just another average player, maybe even less than average considering his poor mid-range and three point shooting. Same thing with Curry, people say he "revolutionized" basketball, the guy is only popping threes and playing on a team that only shoot threes and has two more best shooters in the league, it's not like we'll have some other Curry, Thompson and Durant on one team in 10-20 years. When they go it's finished, the balance will return in NBA. People are freaking out like we never had great three point shooters before Curry. And I still can't believe how underrated LeBron James really is in today's basketball. I don't think people realize that if wins one or two more rings which is still possible that we are probably having a new GOAT.

Giannis doesn't need a jump shot to be dominant and might not even need it be an MVP of the league...agreed. But Giannis certainly needs a jump shot if he cares anything about taking his game to a whole other level, one that we've never seen and one that would be completely unstoppable to the point that he could dominate the league for years winning multiple championships and even becoming potentially the GOAT. That's what we're talking about here. Is he going to be great, or is he going to be legendary. There really has never been a player who, on the one hand, can easily win the MVP this year, and on the other hand, even if he did the prevailing sentiment about him would STILL be that he hasn't even come close to reaching his full potential. That's scary.

It's never a good idea for a player not to develop a jump shot. It doesn't matter how good his physical gifts are. at some point he will not be able to do the same things physically weather due to age or injury. That's what happened to Dwight Howard when the physical gifts were gone he didn't have anything left. Always develop a jump shot and skills.

Derozan is alright at threes from what I've seen, he just doesn't take the shot that often.

Why? Because when playoffs come all these moves become more and more difficult to implement.

Imagine the Milwaukee team losing a match by 3 points in the last 5 seconds, Giannis, even being the superstar of the team, would not be the man to solve that situation. He is not a complete player, in the money moment he can't do anything.
