I too came to that conclusion that there is no other scenario that gon would have survived but I think that the point that his quest for revenge ended him it’s the many things he did to end up in that position, because he neglected killua’s or any other companion at the time out of pure anger, he wanted to be the one to kill pitou, I know it looks like he wanted kite back and he obviously would want that, but that anger for pitou didn’t go away even if she says she can save him and you can see that, in the end it was not the transformation but the cloud of revenge in his head that made him do very stupid choices out of anger to lead to him losing all his potential. Just my piece of thought

I just love how HXH isn’t your typical shonen anime where the protagonist defeats the antagonist and is considered the good guy out of the two. Honestly I don’t view Meruem as an evil person because although his actions are evil, did he even know what “evil” really mean? He didn’t have any intention of doing horrendous actions, I think it was just his instincts, same thing as wild animals. Animals that can kill humans aren’t evil.
@chickenstripz19614 жыл бұрын

You’re severely understating Gon’s motives for revenge against Pitou. Kite is connected to everything Gon does on his journey. It is because of Kite that he developed his dream of finding his dad & becoming a hunter to see how great it is. So much so that one would abandon their family. This in turn lead to the deep bonds with Killua, Leorio, Kuripika and many others. Without Kite, the story would have to be told differently. While it might seem like just murder, it has the weight of the entire story behind it.

Kaminari Ryū Senshi 雷竜戦士 your 100% correct. Also it cant be murder tho. It’s self defense. Kite was irrelevant to the story... You take Kite from it and it would still go the same. Gon would still want to become a hunter and he would still want to find his dad and everything. I never cared for Kite´s death because I never felt his character was necesary. Kite was just a plot device and that is all.
@Han-ey6yc4 жыл бұрын
Personally I feel that Gon should come back because of this fight. Gon had always had this problem of a child where he was too emotional and never really considered about the consequences or his companions. And this fight with Pitou marked the first time Gon was not stopped by his friends and the first time Gon actually was able to fully embrace the consequences of his actions. And so I feel it'd feel lacking for me in terms of character development and growth to see Gon just exit so tragically without seeing how Gon really may have matured into. Also this fight kind of makes me wonder if Gon seeing his father can really mark the end of Gon's story. Like if HxH or at least Gon's story was all about Gon meeting his father, why would Gon have been willing to sacrifice everything for Kite even before reaching his ultimate goal of seeing his father. The fact that vengeance for Kite's death held much higher priority for Gon shows that Gon's story actually never have been simply about meeting his father and shows that Gon had many more things he cared about. So I feel that Gon's story cannot end here.

I disagree with this entire video: 1). Gon truly cares about his friends. That much was shown from the beginning. 2). Gon is 13 year-old...and didn't have a father growing up. 3). If Gon does have a "selfish" desire for power, it's so his absent father will accept him. 4). Pitou killed Kite, the one father figure Gon had 5). Pitou also killed innocent villagers for no real reason. 6). If not for Gon, Pitou definitely would've killed him and everyone else. There was no one left alive that could match Pitou before Gon transformed In summary, it's very short sided to say "the ants gained humanity while Gon lost his humanity", because the ants are the ones who pushed Gon to the breaking point where he didn't care anymore. If anything the ants TOOK Gon's humanity. Pitou deserved what she got.

No one else had the strength to defeat her, and she likely would have wanted to avenge her fallen king and continued wreaking havoc. Saying Gon is a monster for killing her the way he did is very odd. Gon and Netero saved humanity by defeating the ants that were the most powerful beings on earth. Netero sacrificed himself the same way Gon did. Each had a job to do and they did it. Gon just wore his emotions on his sleeve because he was assigned to take out the one that killed his friend and mentor.

Stormcutter 59 agreed. Saying Gon abandoned his morals and trying to paint Peto as a victim are reaches. Peto was saving her own ass by saving kumogi, she hadn’t gained morality. If Gon had interrupted the operation, then I’d say he went too far. As is, he waited for kumogi to be saved, talked a little rude to Killua, tried to save Kite, and then did what was necessary to kill the ant to that threatened the world, and complete the job he and his team were hired to do (not to mention avenge his mentor).
@stormcutter594 жыл бұрын
@@mitchelldonnick9484 Not to mention Pitou was a threat. Some people's comments that I've read on the internet that was based on the fight between Gon and Pitou was that they felt unsatisfied. Like they had this expectation where the two of them would duke it out like Goku vs Vegeta or Gohan vs Cell to make it clear but what they got wasn't their expectation. Because of that some of them actually didn't like the somewhat "Deus Ex Machina" Gon pulled out. I was like, what the hell were you expecting about. I think the series has already established that it is not going to be a cliche type of anime. It gives the viewer of the anime suspense of what Gon might actually do to Pitou or better yet, how far will Gon do to attain revenge. That was the whole point of this fight. It's not about some flashy fights or choreograph hand-to-hand combat, no, it's what a realistic person who has a drive to actually fulfill it by any means necessary. The way I look at this fight is how a person, a human being, with enough drive whether to improve themselves or self-hatred can do and their willingness to sacrifice everything even if its their own humanity. That's the whole point of this arc, right? To see how the human race, though, can be a blessing to some or others while on the other side of the coin, we can see the horror, the evil, and most of all our ability to just sacrifice our own kind, our flesh and blood, to attain or to grab what we truly desire whether for it to be happiness, true meaning of life or just simply vengeance.
@noahrubin76804 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree, after rereading today it seems clear to me that it was Gon’s loyalty to Kiato, not his bloodlust that led him. It’s an idea that’s reinforced by Killua after in the hospital. While in his transformation Gon exclaims “ Now I have finally become just like Kaito was at that moment, and just a little I’ve been saved” Gon’s desire was to sacrifice as Kaito sacrificed, to embody his teacher, and yes, to enact vengeance, yet this vengeance was an extension of his loyalty, yes, a break of his control of his emotions, but not of his humanity. I think with this lens, this fight becomes much more consistent with the story of Gon as a whole.

Gon never lost this fight. Gon's only goal was to kill pitou and he succeeded at that. Its not like Gon had the goal of going on to kill Meruem and Pitou was trying to stop him from doing so, no Gon never had the intentions to face Meruem in the first place which makes the whole argument that "pitou won by achieving their goal" well that whole goal of theirs was pointless, them hands were all for them. Pitou wasn't giving a self sacrifice, they had no choice to begin with, Gon was giving them the hands regardless, and had no intentions to do otherwise. Pitou lost because they were taken out by something that actually wasn't going for the king, meaning they died not to protect the king, but because of their own weakness. Pitou lost through and through, and what they did never changed a damn thing, it was a wasted effort to begin with.
@richgoldendoor42403 жыл бұрын
@Alvaro Moran Pitou never even sacrificed themselves to begin with. Pitou wronged Gon and paid the price for it. Gon was never after the king, so whatever Pitou thought Gon might do to meruem is irrelevant. Pitou died because of an action they themselves took, and because of that Pitou would no longer be able to protect meruem over something that didn't have to happen. Pitou's defensive instincts got them killed, nothing more. Nothing from their prospective actually matters because that wasn't the reality of the situation, Pitou only thought Gon was after the king because that's all Pitou knew how to think. Gon however achieved his own goal in this situation in the reality of it all. He wanted revenge to cope with the events that just transpired (even states "I'm going to kill you Pitou"), and he got revenge successfully, whether or not he was in a crippled state after, he still avenged the death of his friend. If Gon was after Meruem next, there would actually be some weight to such claim, but he wasn't, those hands were 100% for her cheeks only, and she died protecting jack shit.

I don’t really feel that this fight “humanized” Pitou. Pitou accepting death at Gon’s hands was Pitou fulfilling its original duty to protect the King. Killing Kite in the first place was done to fulfill that duty as a Royal Guard. Pitou knew that Gon’s gamble for power would also simultaneously strike him down, and Pitou was satisfied with that fact because it meant that this formidable force would never clash with the King after he burned out. Maybe you could say that Pitou was humanized in this fight if it felt fear of or even sympathy for Gon after he realized Kite was never coming back, but Pitou is just like “I’m glad he’s using this one-use trump card to kill *me* and not the King.”

Tserriednich = doomed. My theory is that he will join the spiders once he finds out about their goal to steal everything and what they're capable of, allowing Kurapica to use his binding chain and other special abilities on him, which means that there will be a very bloody mess in the succession war Arc because of that. Well... Bloodier mess. Because the succession war is already insane and the conflict between the spiders and hisoka is only going to add to that.

No matter how much I want more chapters the author's health and sanity comes first. Crazy how this show got people talking about scenes and arcs like High school teachers analyzing Shakespeares plays. Regardless , I see so many people over analyzing this to the max. Gon needed to take that step to take out Pitou. These moral standards that everyone is trying to place pin on him make no sense. He’s a kid, a sheltered kid at that. Kids contradict themselves all the time, and not only that but Kite is one of the reasons that Gon was on this journey in the first place. He did the right thing in this situation.

Kurapika seemed to have been lacking humanity from the start of the series, we were introduced to him through him saying “I do not fear death, I only fear that my rage will fade over time.” From his introduction his sole motive was to kill the phantom troupe and avenge his clan.

I was gonna do a video essay on this, but fuck it I'll just write it here. I believe that the Gon Vs. Pitou “fight” serves as the climax to Gon’s emotional journey, but it most prevalently sheds light on one of the main facets that not only guides him as a character, but also plagues him as the tragic flaw that will lead to his eventual downfall: *Childlike Delusion* *ℂ𝕒𝕤𝕖 𝟙 - 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔽𝕠𝕩𝕓𝕖𝕒𝕣* To present the primary example of this, one can easily go back to his first meeting with Kite at the tender age of 10. Even before he Kite saved him, his entire predicament is caused by his fabricated deduction that the foxbear was lost. This introduces the common theme found in almost every decision that he makes of Gon trusting his instincts completely and ignoring whatever lack of knowledge or hindsight he has about the situation (just as a child would typically do). This is only exemplified when Kite attempts to kill the Foxbear, knowing that it will most likely retaliate in reaction to the death of its mother, only for Gon to rush to its rescue, claiming that he will protect and raise it whether or not it wishes for his death. As a whole, this scene not only provides the first notable example of the various logical fallacies (mostly the Hasty Generalization fallacy that will eventually devolve into his use of the False Dichotomy as well as his use of Circular Reasoning) that Gon employs to judge what is good and what is right and what is wrong in life, but it also foreshadows the reaction that he will have to the revelation that his father is alive, as told by Kite. Instead of retaliating in anger that his father is alive and abandoned him to pursue a life as a hunter, he instead develops a new level of respect and admiration for him, making it his life’s goal to understand why Ging would do such a thing. _[As an aside, the reason why Gon cares so much for Kite is not simply just because he told him the truth about his father, but also because he is the first loving paternal authority that Gon has come into contact with, essentially serving as his father. The vicarious love from Ging showed through Kite coupled with the fact that Kite literally gave Gon purpose in his journey through life caused an unfathomably deep bond to form between the two.]_ However, this also provides the audience with another brief glimpse at another point that must be made. Up until this point, Gon has been living with the belief that his parents were killed in an accident, and he has believed it because it is what he was told by those that he loves the most (namely his aunt Mito). When the truth is finally realized to him, instead of resenting his caretaker, he simply ponders why she would feed him this falsehood and quickly continues to love her because she is the woman who has raised him and loved/cared for him so deeply. While Gon sees the truth and the lies about Ging as a very black-and-white scenario (telling the truth = good; lying = bad), we know that Mito only did this in his best interests as to protect him from the truth of his father’s unforgivable neglectfulness. The contrast between Gon’s binary mindset and his aunt’s more complex and multi-faceted views serves as a clear illustration that Gon is a child that is forced to deal with very mature problems that he does not fully comprehend thrust in an Adult’s world who, throughout the series, is forced to mature faster than anyone of his age possibly can (and because of this, makes many irrational, even incomprehensible decisions based on the semblance of infantile innocence that he still wishes to retain onto). Put simply, while he sees the world as a child wood, where the line between bad and good is obvious, he lives in a world where, as William Shakespeare said famously in his play Macbeth, “Fair is foul and foul is fair”. Later cases will be posted as replies

I was incredibly excited when my friend told me that Gon would become an "anti-hero" at some point in Hunter x Hunter. I was looking forward to this moment badly. I was theorizing on what he will do in order to become an anti-hero, I was thinking he would maybe murder Komugi. My point is, I WANTED Gon to be an anti-hero, I thought that would an incredible plot twist. But I was a little, not that much, but still a little disappointed with what I saw. You talk about how he became a "monster". Why is brutally murdering Pitou so wrong? Pitou herself is a monster who murdered and even ate countless of human beings, including Kite who is a father figure to Gon. Why do you think carrying out an act of revenge, killing someone who murdered your father figure is so wrong? I don't see revenge being an inherently wrong thing. And even if we agree it's not the most moral thing in the world to do, I don't see how it makes you a "monster". Did Kurapika become a "monster" because he killed Uvogin? I don't think so. Was Goku a monster because he killed one of Piccolo's subordinates for no other reason than revenge for killing Krillin? I want to think Gon is an anti-hero, but I just don't see it. I challenge you to change my mind. Threating to murder Komugi, using her as a hostage, in my opinion, are far worse actions than brutally murdering Pitou, and yet even that I don't see how it makes him an anti-hero. Those are certainly some anti-heroic MOMENTS for Gon, but he didn't do anything iredeemable or permanently hurt someone who didn't deserve it. Therefore, when the entirety of his character is considered, this threatening statements and so forth, don't nullify the fact that he's a good guy overall. At least that's how I see it.

I disagreed with just about everything in this video, and never more vehemently than when the Uvo vs Kurapika was brought up as a comparison and Uvo isn’t given the same benefit as Pitou. He’s more complex than an ant biologically manipulated to act in whatever manner their King chooses, imo. Also, there was nothing completely satisfying about Kurapika killing Uvo, and I still mourn Uvo, because he was cool as hell,, and the way it clearly warped Kurapika.

Whenever I see or think of the hideout where this all went down. It feels surreal. Like mythological on a biblical level. Like "something dark happened here a long time ago, something forbidden that no one should witness." Honestly the fact that the only person who personally saw the transformation sequence was brutally murdered almost makes this feel more like horror folk tale than an action plot.
@KrizaIid1174 жыл бұрын
4:43 "After transforming into a being with power comparable to that of Meruem..." That was a mistranslation by the English sub. Pitou really says something like "His fangs can reach the King now," or something along those lines, which doesn't necessarily mean he's as strong as Meruem... Nice video btw.
