I’ve using J’s pickups for a year now. I’m still very happy with them. For alternative/indie music where you have huge wall of fuzz to lush ambients these do the trick. I’m not a snob on pickups I love alternative music and these are a match made in heaven for my music style. I would highly recommend these to people.

The burst AmVintage 2 sounded much brighter on bridge and neck. The middle position was very close for both. The neck on the white JM was very warm. I feel the overdrive sound demos were where the JMascis pickups really stood out. I think that was the intent by design. Great demo Jayson and Tia as always! I guessed right after 3 minutes. Mike and WCM rules!

The Mascis pick-ups sounded a lot warmer to my ears, particularly when Jason was finger picking. Think they’ll make a great upgrade to a Squire Jazzmaster.

Excited to swap out my Vintera 60s pickups for these
@tomm1tch Жыл бұрын
Can confirm BIG upgrade on the Vintera 60s pickups. Much fuller sound, more output, less of a shrill resonant peak - but still quite a noticeable res peak on the high G-E strings that is either very present with the pickups high or goes away if you drop them way down. Two v different sounds with the pickups high and bitey or low and softer / more balanced. At the mo I’ve left mine low and balanced, making it my quieter guitar. Worth noting mine seem wound weaker than spec at 6.89k bridge and 7.05k neck instead of the 7.36/7.37k quoted, so I’ve swapped neck bridge as a result.

Yeah, but how noisy are they with some gain? =D Also have you guys tried any Jazzmaster pick-ups that are not to noisy with mid to high gain? I know there are a few "Noiseless" options out there. But I'm wondering if any "regular" Jazzmaster pick-ups can cut the mustard. Some hot Seymour Duncan's perhaps? Lately I've been diggin pick -ups, (especially in the bridge) with at least 8, 9, or 10k resistance. The Yosemite's on my America Performer JM sound pretty good, but noisy and only 6k resistance. The pups on my Jazzmaster infinitely actually sound pretty good with some gain, but noisy of course. Bridge is about 8k resistance. I'm looking into Brandonwound.

@chancemiller93402 жыл бұрын
It would be great if you two could explain what was changed during the setup? Changing pickups isn't going to affect anything, so that wouldn't be what you're talking about. So... what was changed? Thanks. Also, the White JM pickups sounded muddy with drive. Perhaps they have different pots, but the sunburst sounded louder and clearer, especially with the drive. The white one just sounded meh. I guess that you get the antiquity if you are not going to use drive and the J. Mascis if you are going to use drive.
@JasonTMays2 жыл бұрын
Nothing besides the pickups were changed. If you're referring to the actual setup on the American Vintage II: There's a video we did with our initial experience with that guitar, and we sent it over to mike adams and he did a video about it before doing a setup and sending it back. Fender ships both the American Vintage II and the American Original with 1 meg pots. So, they're the same pot value. I mean, J Mascis and Nels Cline both use the antiquity ones.

It's really not so much the after market changes. It's about the talent of the player. The great Jack Pearson has 4 or 5 Squire Strats that he plays all the time. He doesn't change anything on the guitars but a jumper wire on the switch to have a separate tone for the rear pup. Spend your time practicing without spending your money on things that don't make you a BETTER player. It's never the axe it's always the player.
@JasonTMays2 жыл бұрын
While I am always supportive of the idea of practicing your chops and becoming a better guitarist, I am also of the belief of modding to help craft your tone/sound...nonetheless, I slightly disagree with your take. I think most people looking to modify their instrument are already proficient enough at their craft and just want to improve their sound. New pickups are a wonderful way to do that without always breaking the bank. But that wonderful thing about the internet is that we both have different perspectives and both of those perspectives are valid.
