Superman - We got one with the first figure but we have yet to with the infected body despite it being a color change away. If there's any figure that should just being variant/variant/variant, it's that Superman. They gave us the Rebirth suit that DC quickly ditched for the superior red booted version. We did not need that og release. Batman - With the Year 2 body they are but the year 2 body is a bit too large. Hush, Three Jokers, and Year 2 pretty much covers most versions of the design. Flash - Struck gold there. Just needs a rerelease honestly for new comics. Plus a Wally version. Wonder Woman - Dear lord were have so many WW figures except a standard comic design. I just don't get it. Martian Manhunter - Too bad the made him a tad too short. Green Arrow - None and Arrow was a bad figure. Injustice is really tall but works for some people. Green Lantern - Done pretty well sans Hal's two pack existence. Aquaman - Perfect except for the side eye face.

@@zebra8961 to be fair, that’s not always the case. I’ve actually noticed that (at least at my local target and Walmart) the ones that are left over in large quantities are what we’d consider evergreen looks for characters. For collectors like us yeah most of us would rather grab the classic one with the most potential use for a JL lineup or something of that sort, but it seems like people who are less focused on team building just kind of go for what catches their eye regardless of whether it’s a particularly classic look or not. Obviously I’m not 100% sure of this but there actually does seem to be some truth to it, at least as far as selling in mass retail outlets as opposed to places like GameStop that are more specifically frequented by collectors.

My biggest issues are the fwd bending mid-torso articulations, the lacking thigh swivel articulations, and the inconsistent paint jobs. The lack of parts and accessories is a stinker too. Outside of that I give them props because I'm not even into DC comics that much but I find myself buying many of these and actually being interested in the comic arcs they're based on. I think they've surpassed Marvel Legends in many ways.

They are definitely getting better. They're sliming down the chests of figures to better fit with the abdomen. They've also retooled the ball joints in wrists and ankles, I hated those. I gave up on wanting them 6.5 inches, that was a huge stocking point with me, but at least I can incorporate McFarlane's lack of characters with DC Collectibles/Direct figures, which are also 7 inches. . Also don't like that there are too many Batmen AND Supermen figures. The only other batman I'd like to see from McFarlane is Gotham By Gaslight Batman.

Here's a problem with Superman and Batman, he still hasn't perfected the classic versions of them yet. He got very close with his first #1000 Superman attempt, but the head sculpt and legs look too weird and not enough articulation in elbows and neck. He also got close with three classic versions of Batman (Three Jokers Batman, Year Two Batman, and Hush Batman). Also, I need classic Wonder Woman (the blue outerwear version, not the skirt).

The greatest thing I like about McFarlane toys is that almost each figures have their own body mold, there’s only a couple of reused molds. The major issue I have with McFarlane really is what he’s said himself. He thinks of these more like statues than action figures, hence stuff like the side eyes. McFarlane needs to realize people want an affordable Super Poseable line fo figures. If the buyer wanted well sculpted figures with ok articulation, they’d go with either Diamond select or neca

His mindset would be fine if he was just making customs for himself, make what you like. However, he’s running a business with a customer base that wants a certain things, great articulation, classic designs and a variety of characters. But he just wants to force people to buy what he wants. 7” scale, mostly Batman, barely any female characters, bland posing ability. I really hope he loses the license. He doesn’t deserve it. He never really did. I get Shartimus’ point that he was the first guy to start an adult figure market but he was pushing at an open door. Someone would have done it if he hadn’t.

@@UncomfortableShoes I’ve gotta give that a hard disagree. I get that there are gripes with him personally, but I feel like A) the articulation has vastly improved since the line started to the point where it’s on par with most other brands with the added positive of just looking more natural when you use it, and B) they just feel so much less “toylike” than what other manufacturers are pushing out. I mean really really above them in terms of texture, detail, plastic quality etc, and C) I feel like the idea that he’s just “forcing people to buy what he wants” is kind of erroneous. I mean yes he did give us the figs with the side eye and at first some lackluster articulation, but he’s clearly demonstrated a willingness to listen and change the things that people don’t like (removing side eye and giving us way more moveable and cleaner looking articulation). Plus we’re only 2 years in, and they’re vastly better than when they started. I think the Multiverse line is perfectly suited to Mcfarlane and I definitely don’t think it should leave anytime soon.

I have a handful, and I couldn't justify buying more for a number of reasons. 1. Ton of DCEU designs, of which I'm mostly not a fan. 2. 7 inch scale is a minority in my collection. Only really scales with my NECA TMNT. 3. Some of the figures are overdesigned to the point of ugliness. 4. I hate how the variants are handled. 5. The characters I really want (Teen Titans, Static, Zatanna, Two-Face, classic Riddler, etc) feel like they're never getting made in favor of Batman version 2742.

@@DerrickVanderspoon I see where you're coming from. I appreciate the reply, it's great to have a solid, well thought out reply. Thank you. I want people to collect what they like. I can respect the fact that he's made some changes. However, I'm not quick to praise him for taking two years to figure out what was right in front of him. I don't know if you collect wrestling figures, but I do. Mattel makes the WWE figures, they're fine, much better than any of the DC Multiverse when Mattel had the license which really make you wonder. Anyway, Jazwares is another company that got the AEW license to make wrestling figures and everything about their figures is a step up from the Mattel wrestling figures. Mattel figures have single jointed elbows, they did double jointed, mattel does ankle pivot that's stiff? Jazwares did marvel legends style which people had wanted from WWE figures for a long time. Jazwares did better ab crunch, and they scale with the WWE figures. They looked at the market, the competition and improved it from day one. I'd love them to get the DC license. Todd seemed to do the opposite, thigh swivel? No. Ab crunch? No. Good ankle pivot, Todd's version isn't very good. The standard is 6" here's 7". For some reason including a character card. *shrug* I have a few of his figures, I recently bought a Peacemaker, he looks fine standing still, but trying to get him into cool poses is a pointless. I will praise Todd for coming out with the weapons pack. I bought three. It was a really smart work around for something that is entirely out of his control. In the end, for me, at this point he's made more stumbles than leaps. In a few years he may do a 180, but so far I'm just not a fan. Cheers.

When it comes to the McFarlane figures, Todd I believe in my heart is more like a renaissance artist. An example Michelangelo's David. A true piece of beauty and a forever time piece. When it comes to his artistic statues like Spawn remember that's his baby. When it comes to us as collectors we want the statues to be re posable for different artistic looks. My personal gripe is that the Q.C. control is low for the figures, the second gripe is that the hands and face are a figures way for expression and are lacking as per accessories. An increase in price for accessories to me would be reasonable. I have personally had to out source for parts to get the aesthetic poses I am looking for when it comes to taking artistic photos. If you read my comment on this it would be greatly appreciated. I also hope Todd reads this Thank-you Todd for this massive undertaking and keep up the great work.

I agree with most of these points. Better articulation would be nice. Better paint apps would be nice. Variants with actual variations beyond a different head would be nice. Give us more female characters. I know what Todd said about this haha which I didn't disagree with. But I guarantee that if Todd did a classic Wonder Woman or Catwoman or Harley Quinn or Poison Ivy or Supergirl...those female figs would sell fast! But overall, I have been very pleased with this line. You can't beat the sculpt work for the price point. The way the figs are created make kit bashing and customization a breeze. I initially hated the 7 in scale because all my Marvel Legends are 6 in, but the bigger scale has won me over. Last but not least, I love WB and DC's decision to really tackle the root of the gun issues in America by banning their action figures from carrying guns. I'm certain countless lives have been saved thanks to this courageous and well-reasoned policy. (Do you see what I did there?) Todd's decision to put out a munitions pack was a better response. How about including holsters with characters that clearly should be packing heat? Either mold the holsters onto the characters or sell after market holsters like the munitions pack. Just a thought.

I really like what Todd tries to do with the line, meaning a lot of detailed sculpts and some very obscure DC characters when they aren't doing another Batman. They had some amazing releases, such as Swamp Thing, MK11 Spawn & the very first Azrael. Sadly, more often than not a lot of their releases present two noticeable flaws: weird proportions & very badly implemented articulation. IMO I'd rather have a line that's slightly more expensive (yet still affordable) but with actual effort put into making them highly dynamic with good articulation. As they are right now, I skip most of the releases except those that I find irresistible. I'd buy much more if they improved on these points.

I’d personally love to see a sub line of DC called Classic Covers or Comic Book Art similar to his Spawn Classic Cover series and do the high detailed sculpts with limited articulation and pre-posed. Then they could make Multiverse with all the articulation and cuts that break up the sculpt. It would be a win win for Todd and the fans because then you could pick what you want. Art over Articulation or vice versa.

It's great you come up with these vids! These companies can also come here and read our comments and take what they think they can take. I think McF is great, I respect them. Sometimes, I feel it's a bit of a hit or miss for me but I do agree with the good points you mentioned. I do dislike they release the exact same figure just adding one accesory and like, that's about it. We end up with the same thing just to get everything you could get it to use, that is actually a bit insulting to me xD other than that, I feel the rest is subjective, but I'm okay with other bad points being pointed out.

The DCUC line sculpted by the 4 Horsemen is still the standard by which I measure other DC action figure lines. Yes, they tended to utilize cookie cutter bucks for the majority of the characters but they dove deep into the DC comic universe and gave us characters that had never been done before and have not been done since then. They also gave us extremely obscure D level characters. They finished off tons of DC teams from the Satellite era JLA to the Justice league Europe team, the Teen Titans, the Metal men, the New God's, Green Lantern corps, Doom Patrol, The freaking LOSH as a boxset & the JSA! They also dived into the ol school challenge of the super friends toon and gave us Toyman, Apache Chief. The DCUC Etrigan still blows away any Etrigan done since then. And we got comic based Batmen. The DCUC did lack ankle and wrist articulation which imo, was their main negative factor and the heads could not look up and down. But I'm not a fan of the 7' scale nor the heavy centric Batverse and making figures that appeared in just a comic panel or just 1 comic or 1 page. The Toddbatverse still looks inferior to the DCUC imo and the side eyes are laughable.

Agreed. I honestly just want the DC equivalent of Marvel Legends. Same scale, same articulation scheme, and a focus on Pre-New 52 costumes. I want to display the Avengers and the Justice League together, and McFarlane's line doesn't let me do that.

DC Universe Classics are still the best line of 12th-scale DC figures and I’ll hear nothing about it. Mafex has potential to beat that, but those are more expensive and their roster lacks the depth.

having all of this laid out makes me realize how much I like mcfarlane or at least how much they have going for them, granted they'd still need to change alot for me to start getting the main line, like standard thigh swivel and fixing their issue w scale amongst figures...rn only the vehicles n megafigs interest me but it's also hard not to love when there's a drought for product. just seems like other company's might be able to do it better

McFarlane doesn’t think we notice he’s making the 7 inch scale for a lot of these figs just by stretching the legs. He should’ve stuck with 6 inch so they could have proportionate bodies. BUT he’s so desperate to be “bigger and better” than his competition that he’s making daddy long leg figures.

Before McFarlane Toys, there was Todd Toys. The 1st Spawn figures which were released in the clamshells were produced by Todd Toys. It was the 3rd Spawn series where the company changed it's name to McFarlane Toys. I'm a huge Spawn collector and for me, the best McFarlane figure is The Maxx from Spawn Series 3. My 2nd favorite is the Superman the Infected from DC Multiverse. My honorable mention fig is Malbolgia from Spawn series 2 (Todd Toys, lol). Great channel my friend and love the variety of toys you showcase. Keep up the awesome content!

I like to think Todd McFarlane likes to make posable statues. The other companies want action figures. The whole superposability of a character matters if they are in a comic with lots of action. But some people see action figures as merely display pieces so they prefer more details! That is where the issue lies: he only likes details not posable action figures. So he should release a seperate line called "the action series" and these have LESS detail but more posability. Then release these to department stores and toy stores and see how they sell compared to his usual posable statue stuff. If it sells like crap then just go back to releasing the high detail figures only. The way he can reduce risk is make the posable action figure smaller in size at first. Then if it succeeds he can do bigger ones. My view is release smaller more posable figures but give them tiny boxes and more accessories.

I mean, stuff like TDK trilogy, MOS and BvS figures, COMPLETE Teen Titans tv animated show wave and not only Cyborg, Batman Tim Burton Films, WW classic figure, Classic Black suit Superman, New 52 JL, more Arkham figures, Classic JL figures and maybe Brandon Routh Superman from Returns and Kingdom Come. And yes, EXTRA HEADS

The main thing I like about McFarlane's Multiverse figure is I feel I'm getting a figure that from the accessories to the trading card that packed in that you get a basic understanding of who that character is if you do/don't know them. Superman or any other DC character comes with a flight stand in box and I feels as if Hasbro doesn't do that enough. For example America Chavez from the Dr. Strange MoM wave, she should have come with some kind of transparent star punch or portal to show what her abilities are. Even though there have been alot of motorcycles from him for Batman figures I do like he's experimenting with vehicles/ ride ons like the Joker Dragon, the Dark Knight bird a figure horse, and the monster truck from Dark Knight Metal.

I would say this to anyone who touches the subject: sure back in the day McFarlane toys were articulated statues more than action figures HOWEVER before McFarlane toys everything was pretty much made for children and then we started to get figures for adult collectors. So like the comics can be divided between before and after Image (for better or for worse) action figures can also be divided before and after McFarlane toys.

I agree with you on most of points you made: glad they've moved away from the side eyes, they weren't very appealing, loved that they got rid of thise ugly round ball joints and are currently sculpting the joints that blends more beautifully with the figures and i think they've been improving on the rubber diapers in the figures. Now as far as the lack or paints, well its a shame that they have to skimp out on adding more paint apps and washes because had they added some it would really highlight the fantastic details on their figures. I understand that its done to keep the prices lower and those more affordable for most collectors but damn it there are some figures that really could have benefited from some extra paint apps such as those recent Mandarin Spawn we got. Just imagine getting those highly articulated figures with the paint apps of the original Mandarin Spawn... To this day those old school Mandarin Spawn are my favorite toys ever, just sculpted works of art. I also think that they should consider adding more alternatives heads and hands even if it Jack's up the price slightly more... Hell maybe make them in three versions they way the are being released and as a deluxe collectors box with all the variant heads and hands. They could be higher price but for those of us that want the ability to swap out the heads and hands it be great plus they will be able to sell the figures in three way thus making great use of their molds and recouping the cost. The Hawkman from the Black Adam movie looks soooo freaking awesome and I am not even a fan of Hawkman but dang it he is a gorgeous looking fig. Wish his wing would hing open that would really make it even more desirable to me. Anyway great video as always hermano 👍👏👏👏👏

For me there are definitely more pros than cons. The cost for what you get is second to none IMO. The sculpt work/texturing as many always point out is phenomenal. Hasbro is great but doesn't even come close. I know a lot of people are upset about the Batman heavy aspect but for me this is a major positive as he's my favorite and has just so many different looks to cover. The articulation to aesthetic ratio is a solid balance for me. Would thigh cuts be nice sometimes? Yes probably but it's not nearly as important to me as not messing with the look of the sculpt. As far as cons for me a big one is of many of my figures way too many have broken ratchet joints in at least one shoulder. I'm not sure if those teeth are jut super brittle but I'm talking out of the box this is going on. Last real con for me is that virtually every single figure benefits MASSIVELY from even just a dry brush repaint. I understand the cost factor but some I've fixed up rather quickly with a black or silver wash. I liked what he did with the special version of Mandarin Spawn with the higher price point and better paint applications. Could also be a pro instead of a con with the paint because it's actually super fun to customize.

I personally love the McFarlane DC Multiverse figures. To the point that it has actually has supplanted Marvel Legends as my favorite action figure line. That said, I still have a few issues with some things. My number one complaint is the abundance of the unpainted "artist proof" chase figures. I order a lot of my stuff online, and you don't know what you are getting until it arrives. For example I ordered, and returned, the DKR Robin figure 3 different times from Amazon because I ended up with the unpainted chase figure every single time. I finally gave up and eventually managed to find it at a Target. That was super annoying. They need fix that issue. And I don't mind all the Batman figures, but someone needs to tell Todd that the Dark Knight has other villains aside from the Joker. It would be nice to get some comic versions of characters like Two-Face, Black Mask, Mr. Freeze, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, and etc.

Being a Batman fan is all well and good. And I’ll even admit that for the most part a lot of the Batman designs that MacFarlane comes up with are unique and sometimes I’ve never seen or heard of before. But when the majority of your year‘s releases are just different variations of Batman and Superman it’s a bit absurd. Like my biggest issue is that he made a teen titans cyborg maybe last year or beginning of this year and ever since that teen titans cyborg has come out he has not made any other characters from that show we have not seen a raven robin beast boy StarFire Hell I’ll even take red X and that version of Slade. So I’m sorry as much as you are loving this Batman fetish that he has it’s not fair to the consumers that either a do not get the figures that they can review on their channels at a discounted or free price and have to come out of their pocket to buy every single figure in their collection. Sometimes we get fatigued with seeing Batman over and over and over again.

You are soo right!! I was skeptical about MacFarlane Toys DC Multiverse at first until the first wave and I gotta say, I've switched sides. My purchases of Marvel Legends have dropped massively as of late. Two main reasons: price hiking and availability. Toy Biz and then the earlier waves of Marvel Legends used to be pumped out like crazy. Now, you're lucky if you find at the most two cases per wave at Walmart and Target, and even Gamestop. Now another hike is happening?! No thank you.

- The scale. Oh, the scale. Why? Was there some reason he *couldn't* do them in 6"? If only to make them compatible with the Mattel figs. - The articulation, particularly the lack of thigh swivels or a useful substitution therefore. - The biscuit - brittle nature of the plastic. I should have been all over the Year 2 cover Batman, price notwithstanding, but multiple reports of snapped limbs, at least on stocks here in the U.K., had me passing on a figure that *should* have been the centrepiece of a DC figure collection. Even the sculpting can be an issue when Toddy decides to get creative. Again, I should be excited about the forthcoming Page Punchers Constantine, but Toddco has for some reason decided to design the figure as looking like a borderline tramp who's stuffed his cheeks full of cotton wool. SO many characters getting figures that I'd like figures of, but which I'm almost certainly not going to buy, because, well... it's McFarlane. I might break if he decides to do Vertigo and Kingdom Come characters though. I suppose even Toddco figures of Shade The Changing Man, V and King Marvel are better than no figures at all. But only just.

A lack of a decent ab crunch really hurts the ability to pose these figures. And the rubber diaper piece looks too obvious and stands out on some the figures too much. What I find most frustrating about McFarlane's DC line is they could be so much better, and the road to get their is practically a straight-line. Each individual figure is lacking as a standalone purchase due to each figure feeling bare bones. For the line itself, the speed of releases, and the variation of figures has been impressive. If McFarlane wants the line to move from good to excellent; please let the buyer decide how the figure will look on the shelf. I would happily pay more for the line if they had alternate hands as standard, an additional head sculpt, and ideally an additional weapon/accessorily/blast effect.
