Finally we can all see it, I felt like I was blind. I definitely would be down for a hour long video like this with different waves. So I can get some reps in 😂

This breakdown of lip/crest/source of energy would be amazing comparing between at least a few different types of waves

Yeah, It would have so much value to see this with some different types of natural waves, because in the video of the wave pool it's clear to me now, but when I'm out in the Ocean things look different..

Love this esp Nico’s honesty! So informative. Hope that some day I will be able to incorporate reading a wave into my surfing.

I was able to see what Clay was talking about, the true wave crest. I just didn't know what I was looking at before Clay explained it graphically on the tablet. This is going to change how I look at the beachbreak waves at my local.

Hey Clay, I'm a lifetime OMBE member and have been waiting for this! All I can say is more, more, MORE!! This feels so important to me, way more important than learning manoeuvres. Can we get this on all kinds of waves? Particularly mushy small ones. Can we get this for pro comps with analysis of their decision making about bottom turn depth, manoeuvre type etc? So much more to learn here, feel like I could spend weeks watching both videos and real waves to get this dialed. Super appreciate your work 🙏

Hey, could you guys do a video specifically talking about in detail the best way to avoid your board when falling in a closeout? Its a big mental hurdle for me and definitely a lot of other people to and would like some tips of how to fall/push board to help increase my confidence a bit. The thrashing is fun, but the board is sketchy. Watched your video on how to fall but you didn’t really tough too much on it. Just found your channel and love the content! Keep it up!

Great video . Being a tradesman in a building industry trying to explain the tricks and trades takes ages just like surfing most people are on a wave and then thinking about doing a turn or next move not as easy as Clayton shows in the video I am also like Nico and be saying the same thing I feel it’s sounds so easy and relax etc but again it’s not as easy as shown in the vlog

Your video explains where you want to turn. My question is during a pop up are you also looking for that second wave? And if so do you start the pop up immediately we you recognize 2 little wave?

O my god, that's what is happening, cutback as the 2 parts of the wave become 1 hollow surface, that's what makes you go vertical !!! I just thought you should make a cutback on the steepest part of the wave, now I know why. Thnx Clayton!

This is very much tailored to THIS wave at the Wavepool and how they break - take the awareness into other waves and see how they break. We'll need to do a follow up video.

I found this really confusing to be honest, then again I've only been surfing 3 years, just felt a bit lost knowing what to look for even watching it a few times through.
@MeadMcLean
@MeadMcLean Жыл бұрын
What you look for in the video is where there's a bright highlight on the lower part of the wave, then there's a sharp line where it turns slightly darker above that. The top of the bright bit is the top of the lower curve of the wave where it's pulling from under. The dark bit above it is where the wave crest is pushing from behind. Waves are weird about crests. They can crest for like a hundred feet or more without breaking--you see loads of people way far out from shore trying to catch the crest and they paddle furiously and waves pass under them. In closer to shore/sand bar/reef, the depth is lower and water gets pulled backward into the wave which causes the break. What he's explaining is that waves don't always have a simple round curl because there are two parts to it. Eventually the bottom and crest come together, but at first the motion is split at least with a lot of waves. The bottom part with the water drawing up is what allows you to do the Oreo technique.

@@MeadMcLean thanks. I’ll watch again and keep this in mind. So the top of the lower part is effectively what you’re aiming for at least in the earlier stage of the wave?
