How good has Derek Carr been for the Saints this season?

Derek Carr works very well in the Kubiaks offense. Period. Only thing I don’t like is when he throws the ball in the dirt when pressured but he is better than I thought he was.. kudos

I think those who understand football see Carr as a good player and those who don’t really understand the game think he’s terrible and blame him for every loss or everything wrong with the teams he’s been on.

The only QBs I would certainly take over Carr as our starting QB would be: -Allen -Burrow -Jackson -Mahomes On any given Sunday he can actually outplay any QB in the league. Is he perfect? No. No QB is. I feel like people hold him to an unrealistic standard for some reason. Stats prove he is near the top of the league in many categories. He’s a capable QB who can help any good team reach their goals. I think some people forget football is a team sport and put all (or most) the blame on Carr when the team loses.

Carr is most likely to be the Saints’ best option at QB for the next 3-5 years. Draft the “QB of the future,” sure, but is that guy likely to be better than Carr over the next few years, I doubt it. There is no “sure thing” when it comes to drafting a QB, regardless of which round they are selected in. I’d say the only QBs that have been drafted since 2019 who are at Carr’s level or better are Burrow, Herbert, Hurts, Purdy, Murray, Tua, and Stroud. Others may prove to be as good as him or better. I’m not ready to anoint any rookie QB yet. What I’m trying to say is, it’s really hard to replace a guy at Carr’s level with someone better. Eventually Carr will be replaced, but expecting that guy to be better than Carr might set you up for disappointment.

You guys showed some numbers that put DC4 around the 8th QB in the league, AND you can bunch of others numbers (like DVOA and etc) to endorse it. So people blaming DC4 do not look at numbers they are kind of delusional (and most likely blind fans of Jameis and MT ), and I totally agree with guys that he can get us to playoffs. Another point is that high picks dont necessary get you there, otherwise Bears, Jaguars and others with so many consecutives high picks year after year would have nailed it already. People want miracles, but what we need is a solid plan to make us contanders, starting with HC and DC... that is my perspective. Thanks a lot guys for this great content.

Great episode guys! With this DC info, that’s not readily available unless you really know how to search stats, I don’t know how someone can call themselves an informed fan and think he’s trash. You may not see it in your comment section, but Facebook is crammed with fans that refuse to give DC an ounce of credit. So much so that it’s pointless to try to enlighten them. As far as his Raiders career, all you need to know is that he set almost all the teams QB records while consistently having bottom 10 Defenses and not great receivers.

I’m going to say it again……… You don’t have to lean on the draft. You have the players. All the restructuring and worrying about draft picks is not the answer. The team can be a playoff team and contender by simply getting free agents and available veterans. Example Marquez Valdes was added and he immediately gave us a win. Veterans can perpetually keep you winning and get you to the playoffs and the fans will love it. The fans don’t want to sit around and wait for something that might happen. Getting and depending on rookies is most of the time maybes. Get immediate results with veterans

“Derek Carr issue is consistency”, you are correct, there’s no quarterback that’s still starting in the league that’s had more inconsistency around him in the last 11 years than Carr. It’s a long shot but if anyone could still give the Saints a chance at the postseason this year, it’s DC4; see 2021 season with the Raiders.

I think Derek has strengths, but also deficiencies that make many people want a fresh start. He's not clutch. His supporters and haters think on a different wavelength. Beyond stats, I see a person who is missing something intangible that great qbs possess. His energy and what it creates for the team around him, is not elevating. If any of the decision makers for the Saints see that as well, I could see us looking at qbs. Though I think Carr's contract is a good one, it gives us a year or two to find a qb.

The Saints are 4-4 with him as the starting QB. In three of those losses the defense gave up the lead with 2 min or less in the game. And the only other loss was against the Chiefs -- who they played close even with having a starting center who they signed 3 days before the game.
