Carlos has had a phenomenal year, improving over 2022. Wimbledon was a crowning achievement and was the best match of the year. It's sad that recency bias has attempted to minimize his accomplishments but I'm glad that your well thought out commentary has helped to put that to rest. His team has already taken steps to manage his schedule better and his coach JCF has it well in hand help him deliver needed improvements. Despite playing with injuries he made a respectable showing at the ATP finals, winning his group. As for the grunts... use the mute button. 😶He's such an exciting and talented player... so much fun to watch. At 20 years old what he's achieved is amazing and there will be more excellent play from him and titles in the future. Vamos Carlitos!

Definitely feels like people forget this guy is basically still a "kid" in tennis years, yet has achieved so much already. You'll always have the extremes on either end saying he is overrated or underrated, but I think any sane person is looking on in amazement at what he's been able to do so far so early in his career. Besides Djokovic and Sinner, I think it's clear that Alcaraz is already leagues ahead of everyone else in terms of being champion material. I think the next few years will certainly help to define the rest of his career.

Given clay seems to be his favourite surface and he won Wimbledon with barely any experience on grass, expectations on him to do well especially in French Open will be very high. I just hope he remains injury-free and learns to put losses in perspective. Even though he finished the year at a low (relative to the stratospheric standards he set for himself), I think some of it was mental rather than physical. There is great room for improvement still. His rivalry with Djokovic and Sinner will be exciting to watch.

Why do people say clay is his best surface? His grass and hard court records are far better. Sure, he does well in Spain but outside of there where he has a home advantage his clay record is by far his weakest of the three surfaces. He is not Rafa just because he is Spanish

Great analysis as always, love your videos. Im just a little bit surprised you didn't mention that Alcaraz actually has one 'major problem' and that is lack of plan B in his game, don't you think so? His power shots are definitley the best, but when is not 'his day', he still kinda can't adapt or change the game plan if its not going with his powershots.

Honestly, you can't have a better inspiration and motivation than playing with the best ever - only if you know that you can beat him. That's why it was so crucial for Novak to win those last few matches they played, but also so crucial for Carlitos to win a Wimbledon title against Novak - you can't get better than that. So trilled that again we have plenty of intense top players matches, and everyone is pushed to run for their money. Great content as always.

So many exciting prospects have come and gone, and some are still there, not having fulfilled even half of their potential, but Alcaraz has already started to exceed some expectations from a 20 year old tennis star. Comparing anyone to The big 3 is unfair, and today's tennis requires massive amounts of personal and team effort to stay in shape and sane. I only wish Alcaraz takes care of his body while chasing greatness.

"We've been used to seeing someone win 2 or 3 grand slams a year but maybe it's time to readjust our perspectives." Umm... except someone DID win 3 grand slams this year. Not to mention that in the 54 years since the open era started, someone has won 2 or more slams in a year 38 times, the feat accomplished by 14 different players. That means a multiple-slam winner in a given year is actually the norm, and any truly "great" season will include this accomplishment.

@HS1-1 5 ай бұрын
I think Carlos is there already - he just lost confidence in the last half of the year. I also noticed he started using the dropshot a lot less over the year too, & I think there were a lot of moments were a timely drop shot would've benefited him. Hard to predict which way it'll go next year but I would be surprised if he doesn't win a slam; I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out & has a big 3 kind of year where he wins 2 or 3 slams & several masters, conquering all before him. Very interested to see how Rune does next year, I know Sinner has been great but for me Rune & Alcaraz are the ones I really enjoy watching & believe have more variety in their games & potential to be at the top for a long time.

Looked unbeatable in the first half (not quite so on clay, I loved how Zverev thrashed him at RG), not that much after Cincinnati. He seems to think it's all about him and Djokovic when there are many more players capable of troubling him. He is in desperate need of a bit of humility and I'm starting to think that he, like Tsitsipas and Zverev, are suffering from the family interfering too much. I can't stand his reactions in opponents' faces, it's what makes him unlikable for me but his style of play is fantastic, I can't lie, he has some gorgeous drop shots and a devastating forehand.

This video is a little bias. You lead the 2023 recap with two minutes of his amazing 2022 season from start to finish. While that is true he had an amazing 2022 season, this is a 2023 video. And the caption of the thumbnail “Insane” will only be fitting if he was winning and trending up. He’s currently trending down and lost his #1 status while other players are getting better and stepping up their game. It’s more fitting if you captioned it with Tsitsipas’ video of “What’s Going On?”. I can’t watch this video in full. Nice try though.
@HeavyTopspin
@HeavyTopspin 5 ай бұрын
The point was made that regardless of ranking, he had a better season this year than last, by a comfortable margin. If anything, you're overvaluing his 2022 season because he had the lowest year-end point total in the last 15 years (since the current points system) and would have finished 3rd or 4th in most years. Doing what he did this year was far more impressive, particularly considering he was knocked out of 3 tournaments by the GOAT and really only had two "bad" losses (Maroszan and Safiullin) all year.
@traebeneck4994

If you watched the video in full (which you admitted to not doing), you might've gotten more nuance out of it. It's necessary to compare his 2023 and 2022 seasons to gain more perspective on his growth as an individual, and to see where he stacked up against everyone else (second best player on the planet after the GOAT is pretty "insanely" good if you ask me).

Good points. I ended up finishing the video after your comments and it was a good comparison and his stats from 2022 to 2023 are very similar and maybe 2023 has the slight edge but I’d love to have seen him end the second half strong, like Novak or Sinner.
