Chase Elliott is the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion. While the celebration probably still rages on for driver 9 some are trying to figure out just how good Elliott is. I think that’s a legitimate question to ask after any driver wins a championship. It helps lead many to other questions like if they will repeat. So today I will pose the question. How good is Chase Elliott?

Imagine Hendrick in the coming years: Chase keeps rolling Larson finds his rhythm with that team, which is a big step up from Ganassi Bowman keeps his momentum and consistency from the playoffs this year going for a while, and converts some of those runs into wins And, in my opinion the really scary one, Byron gets his feet under him

@Ethan Weeter that’s pretty fair, I think Kyles biggest problem was his attitude, that definitely seemed to hurt him a lot more in the past. I was mostly saying that Elliott, and even Larson for that matter, are really the only “young guns” that you could say “oh there gonna win the championship this year” and it’s not to far fetched where with guys like Blaney, Bowman, or Byron, it’s a little more unlikely.

Chase is in the category of driver where Harvick lives. He can figure out any track type. This season, it especially showed. Kyle Bush sucked and complained about the lack of practice. KH went out and won 9 races like a workman. Harvick won the 'first race back' at Darlington, and who doubted he would? It's his kind of condition: No practice, work the problem. Make the car work. Chase won a road course none of them had ever driven, figured out Bristol and the Roval, then went to two tracks where statistics made me take him as 6th pick, and then not at all, and won both. I see Chase as that kind of driver that plays against the track, like Harvick, rather than against the other drivers.

Your point about his team is critical here. And not just his team, but all of Chevy. The majority of ALL wins by Chevy over the last 3 years belong to Chase Elliott. He's literally the only Chevy driver winning consistently. When Chevy/Hendrick get their act together Chase Elliot will rack up wins like Harvick did this year.

@@JJA1987 I mean consistently. They got hot right at the end of the year in time for Chase to win. But outside of Chase, all of Chevy only combined for a total of 3 wins this year. They're still way behind. I'm saying when Chevy/Hendrick are on par with Ford for a whole season Chase will probably win 10 races.

He has grown a lot in the last 5 years. It seemed at first he was frustrated and lacking confidence with the car. And like you said once he got his first it kinda opened everything up. He could’ve easily went on to win 8-9 races this year with Bristol(getting into Logano), Darlington(spun by Kyle Busch), coke 600(pitted late to finish 2nd), Darlington again(Truex got into him). He is only 24 and has amazing potential and Hendrick is finding their groove. Just wait until he’s 30-35, with the knowledge and expertise he will be winning 5-8 races a year and title contender from here on out. This championship gives him all the confidence in the world.

Realistically he could be the next Jimmie Johnson lite. I could see 4 championships for him and around 80 wins. He’s bound to have some down years like all the legends do and who knows if Hendrick will ever be as dominant as they were in the Gordon/Johnson era. Him & Kyle Larson will be battling head-to-head and I could see Larson being right in Elliott’s tracks. Excited for 2021

I didn't really think that he was championship material or he wasn't aggressive enough given his finishes the past couple of seasons before his breakthrough title this year, but he showed an immense maturation in his driving this year and I don't think I have ever seen him drive better than he has this year. I think that Chase Elliott has a lot more to show in the coming years and once this Next-Gen car comes out, I think it will benefit his driving style even more. The best is yet to come for him and he is still young and there is some good success ahead. Chase is a lot like his father, Bill in his ability on road courses and intermediates. Chase always seems to do well in the second half of the year when it matters most and if he can continue to do that, he will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.

I like Chase Elliott. Im a huge Jeff Gordon fan since 1995. Chase doesnt remind me of Jeff, he couldnt. No one will ever match Jeffs accomplishments that Jeff accomplished in the first 5-6 years of Winston Cup racing. With that said, you are right a career trending in a Tony Stewart direction is accurate, I wouldnt say Jimmie Johnson, the stats you said Joey Logano(lets hope not), maybe Dale Jr. Multi generational driver, dad an icon(Awesome Bill from Dawsonville)in NASCAR. From what I can remember of Bill Elliott, you can see where Chase gets his style from. No driver I came to realize can or would replace Jeff Gordon as my favorite driver and this fact is one of the reasons I stopped watching. There are other reasons too. As much as I miss having Sundays dominated by Jeff Gordon and the rest of the field I have also realized how much I miss NASCAR racing as a whole. The absence of Jeff on the track kept me from watching, I think Chase Elliott is bringing me back. Lets just hope with these new cars and less 1 1/2 mile tracks the product is just as good as the drivers have always been.....

I would put Chase as a mid-level A driver. He has shown his abilities and strengths through the struggling Hendrick years. I think once Hamlin, Harvick, Busch and others start to retire, Chase will dominate the next gen era. His prowess will start to show at the beginning of the next gen era because he will be able to put an immediate gap between him and his competition from the start of the 2022 season.

Chase Elliott has been an elite driver his entire career. he almost won multiple races as both a rookie and a sophomore, and had a total of 8 2nd-place finishes before his first win. he won an Xfinity championship as a rookie, when no one believed he was ready for that series without a full Truck season. he brought a dying Hendrick Motorsports back to the top of the Cup series in a racing format that has not been very friendly to them. and the fact that he won a championship at 24 means he likely has 20 years left to accomplish great things. the way things are going, i can definitely see Elliott passing Jeff Gordon for 4th all-time in championships, as long as he keeps up what he's doing. i'm not sure he can tie the 3 7-timers, but he could definitely get to 5 or 6 Chase Elliott has validated himself as one of the best drivers in all of motorsports with the way he capitalized on the last few weeks of the year, and he has nowhere to go but up. i think he will reach at least 5 wins again in 2021, and definitely have a much easier time getting back to Phoenix

He's a weird Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon hybrid. If he stays at the same level of competitiveness that he's on he'll slot in somewhere between the two greatest Hendrick drivers. He's got the talent to win as much as Jeff, and given the current NASCAR points system he can use that to equal Jimmie's title count
