I could praise someone for being good at something and they will pop up and be like "BuT wHat abOUt my bIAS ReSpECt THeM" What is funny that in South Korea, idols are viewed differently as they should be. There are definitely standouts vocalists (Taeyeon who is now viewed as more of a singer than an idol) or rappers (Zico) but large majority basically exist like instagram or social media influencers. Huge followings, lots of viral moments but they still exist in these large community bubbles. I honestly also hate polls because fans take them as a definitive way of recognizing their idol is the best at something. I will avoid names in case it derails this conversation, but goddamnit, those polls are so off. I would be surprised if kpop fans these days knew who Tiger JK was. Full of idols who get lines fed to them from their companies about relationships they can't/have never been in because if they aren't single, they can't capitalize on people's mental illnesses to generate money. RANT Back on sort of topic, I remember when Hyo was ready to debut, there were tons of dance videos of her and Min from MissA when they were younger and popping. They really tried to market how great of a dancer she was HARD and that often drew criticism, with people saying she was either not pretty enough for the group or a terrible singer. Now she's praised on Good Girl for being a good singer. I feel like SNSD were one of the first groups to really make the "main dancer" title that blatant. Now that the title is basically seen as a necessity in idol groups, they just assign it without actually giving it any substance.

It's an inevitable part of performing in the kpop industry (or performing anywhere, really) if you want the stage to look synchronized. Honestly, i think this is why some of her naysayers... say nay. To an untrained eye, her making things look so easy... well... makes it look easy. Other notable dancers (who ARE great, i'm not disrespecting) will often over-dance and add flairs to stand out, which can be visually appealing in focused fan cam, and stand out next to their group, but that is exactly the fault here. The best dancers in the world don't try to look like the obviously best dancer on their team. They try to make their team look like the obviously best team.

They are not top tier, they are GOD tier in kpop industry. There are a lot of artists in kpop who are top tier, but Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, and Yoona are GOD tiers in their own spheres. GGs: Mamamoo and Wendy RV have BIG potential or is almost there for vocals. Only Minzy share this level with Hyoyeon. Yoona could potentially share this level with a lot of idols e.g. Irene RV, Dara 2ne1, Sana Twice (not Tzuyu because until now she hasnt done anything with her robotic expressions), but given the very diverse concepts that SNSD has done, she can fit any theme, and when Yoona takes center, you know its on and she commands. Plus not to mention she's a total CF queen, actress, variety, model, and diversely talented.

I requested this one! I’m sure a lot of people have. Honestly whenever I think of well respected female idols in dance I think of Hyoyeon and BoA. I’m not shading younger idols since my favorite dance position idol is Seulgi but I just kind of instinctively think of these two because the first kpop artists I was ever introduced to (in depth) were BoA and SNSD. I was a bit saddened that she isn’t mentioned much anymore even though she was such a big deal among SONE and 2nd gen fans in general. I’m glad she was acknowledged here. Hyoyeon biggest strength is her ability to fully control any parts of her body. No she has never been underrated. Even when snsd on their peak, every variety shows always likely to see her dance (esp her popping). The term of dancing machine was started because of her (and BoA as a dancing queen) and snsd members always choose her and got excited whenever she danced. But she never really outdo her members in a dance group (that's how humble she was), except when it comes to her solo dance part. The problem is (imho) the 3rd and 4th gen fans always think their idol is superb and they will always be number one when they never really see hyo on dancing with the star or hit the stage (she was the only female idol who's winning on hts!). No, they dont care as long as their idol is number one on the list who was made not even from a real dancer.

Ugh. finally. A legit analysis of dancing techniques! This was also my observations when i first saw Hyoyeon in 2009. That 'Anonymous' dance video with Jaewon really got me stanning because her moves from her head to toes are so....i dont know what words to use. Body coordination? Fluidity? It's like every movement is literally connected and you can clearly see it flow through her body. That video, her 'So Sick' performance (concert), and the SM Town dance relay (Go Girl) from SMTOWN concert are definitely my top 3 favorites. Superb dancing indeed. I totally agreed when you said she's on the top 3 and unbeatable.

As someone who watched SNSD for almost 7 years I can really say that no one, like no ONE can get close of how a queen Hyoyeon is in dancing. SNSD's main are literally the best of their own fields out of all SM trainees in their time. Hyoyeon was trained together with boys trainees because that's how good she is, Taeyeon always in the top 1 vocalist in their trainee evaluation, and Yoona who is one of the most beautiful idol you've ever seen. Other members even though not a main can be mains if put into other group.

This just shows how very passionate is Hyo when it comes to dancing. Yes, specializing in one genre/style is indeed amazing, but a dancer that tries more than what they are used to, it shows how confident they are in their capabilities. Not to mention, her control and mastery in her specialties shows her dedication and hardwork. That's why Hyoyeon for me is indeed the dancing queen. I'd only take BoA, Minzy and Kahi as up there with her on the same pedestal and a few steps lower, maybe Chaeyeon from izOne and Chungha based on what I've seen so far from this generation.

Versality, Power and Technique, she excells in them all. Kim Hyoyeon is a gem, she's been praised many times by prodessionals but also by her labelmates to be excellent and even better than professionaĺ dancers. As said in the video, i think Hyoyeon has reached a peak where it's nearly impossible to outdo at her best. She has such a perfect control and knowledge of her abilities and technique. What makes Hyo unique among main dancers is her superb fluidity and movement isolation rather than over the place energy of some dancers. I personally think that over energy in dancing is used to mask lack of technique. Hyo makes sure not to over exaggerate her moves but still make them on point.
