Honestly, I think the Traction stat would be more useful if it affected your off-road speed. It still wouldn't be an amazing stat if that was the case, but it would at least be usable on most tracks instead of nearly useless.

Slippery roads also effect your Top Speed, which is determined by Traction. 0.75 Traction would result in a *-2%* or *-3%* Top Speed reduction (depending on the category of slippery road). 5.75 Traction would result in a *-0%* or *-1%* Top Speed reduction. Every point (0.25) of Traction reduces the slowdown by *0.1%* While you can adapt to the slipping part of Traction, you have no control over the slowdown effect. Blooper Ink is also effected by Traction, so it might do something (even though it’s still little) even on courses without slippery road.

Oh that's actually huge, i didn't know about the speed thing. For anyone wondering, 6-7% is the difference between the slowest combo (1 speed) and fastest combo (20 speed), and also the difference between 0 coins and 10 coins. In other words, about 2 or 3 points of traction is the same as 1 point of speed (on slippery road), which is huge!

i think if next mario kart does the whole pick your stats thing again, every stat should have a use not only for something gimmicky like "better drift turning on slippery road" but also something that applies on most tracks like "lower deceleration on offroad" or "better drift turning in general". while i'm at it, would be cool if they separated mini turbo speed, length, and charge time across like.. speed stat, miniturbo stat, and idk traction stat i guess.

Traction also slightly affects how fast you go on these "slippery roads". Where on sand/ice, 1 traction stat gives you 97-98% speed, 20(max) traction gives you 99-100% speed. Not much difference but it is still cool. Also if you didnt want the bounce, Ancient Tires have the same traction stat

I'd say traction helps more the faster you're going. So like, Neo Bowser City at 200cc? Max traction is an absolute blessing on that track at that speed. But then there's the fact that in some tracks the traction stat doesn't make a difference, which I did not know before watching this video, so a good amount of handling stat sounds like it would be better on those tracks. I'm wondering how traction may affect zero-gravity portions though, if it does.

Pretty positive that it also affects your traction on normal terrain as well when in a drift, though to a far lesser extent. There is a Mario Kart 8 mod that adds Mario Kart Wii-esc inside drift, and it had to give the inside drift bikes all max traction to feel like MKW inside drift. This might mean it was a MK8 thing removed in Deluxe tho.
