The level of quality in this channel’s videos is so professional. I also love how Steve emphasizes safety in cooking - in prior videos he talks about the risks of mandolins, and here the danger of a hot oven on the ground and the need to properly drain the gas from the pipes. Having spent 20 years growing up in a professional kitchen, I can say that safety is the first lesson and one that most cooking shows ignore. What a throwback to a time when people actually cared about other people - thanks for your videos!

@@benjaminwestfold5153 ​ You're not wrong in that there's always an element of bias to watch out for (which can go both ways-people also often attempt to overcorrect for their bias and become unfairly critical as a result), but it's still an intrinsically different thing from being an actual advertisement, which involves a formal relationship with expectations to boot.

Glad to see the Roccbox getting some love. Amazing product and pretty quick to get the hang of after making a few pizzas as you suggest. Slightly bizarre how the top two home pizza ovens, the Roccbox and the Ooni, are from the UK. Gozney have a good KZbin channel of their own with more recipes than just pizza. It's great for charring vegetables for example.

You know that OONI carpet bomb all the major youtubers. I am guessing ROCCBOX carpet bombed what was left of the first tier in this category and those who haven't done open boxes yet. Still it is always good to see these things in action to compare them to one another. They aren't cheap ... they are like 350 to 800 depending on model and function.

It's a great oven. I chose it over the ooni because it's better insulated. Wood is more problem than it's worth. It cooks too fast to taste the wood.. it's only good if you're going camping or something similar. It's heavy also. Like 40-50lbs. Quality oven.

We got our roccbox in August. It took a couple weeks to get the cooking down. We are loving it. We do pizza at least once a week.

I've been assembling the ingredients on the peel for a year or more now. Works great. But I found my wooden peel works a lot better than my metal one. Somehow the flour/semolina mix seems to get into the pours and I've never has a pizza stick since. Of course my turning peel is metal.

I have this oven. You should build the pizza on wood and then drag it onto the metal included peel. It has holes in it so the flour falls through.. too much flour on the bottom leads to burns.

This is it! The perfect time for my two current favorite food channels to make something together! You have to hit up "Alex, French guy cooking" for some pizza co-op. Don't let the French part fool you, this man has broken down pizza as much as possible.

Lower the gas just before putting the pie in. That will give you an unburned top with a crispy crust!

Wow, how cool that my Roccbox arrived a week before yours, so your video is right on the mark. I agree these ovens are awesome. My takeaway so far is that heating it on full blast for 45 minutes gets it too hot and you'll burn the bottom of your za before the top is finished. Heating on medium plus gas and cooking when the stone temp hits the bottom of the dark orange range seems bang on. I'm using it in Colorado, about a mile in the air, so that might affect the heating, but it's sweet and works like a charm. The fam is already getting pizza'd out but not me.

I love blast furnace pizza. I enjoy having too much heat rather than not enough and learning exactly when to reposition and pull it out. I like burnt crust too, not everywhere, but some. That one you cooked was perfect for me.

After a couple of burnt pizza , I notice it burns the pizza. I tried 500 degrees doest cook the bottom well enough. Its disappointing that you need to modify the back burner with some kind flame tamer. Once i did that the pizza started to come out like a local pizzeria joint.

I have a small problem. After I snapped on the burner and turned the Roccbox back on its legs...if I have the propane tank on the LEFT side...those weight of the cord pulls on the burner and it's snaps right off and falls on to the table. (it's not a real tight fit) I can remedy the situation by putting the propane tank on the right side but this seems a little micky-mouse.

Rocbox is awesome because of the thermometer under the stone and it was first with the propane gas option! Yes you need to heat a pizza oven up for an hour! I’ve cooked maby a thousand pizzas on mine over the past few years. Bring on the Dome!

You absolutely don't need to heat it for an hour. If you crank it all the way up your stone and the roof will reach max temp in 20-25 minutes. Preheating for an hour's just wasting propane. I have an Ooni Kodi, which people say has less insulation than this one. After 25 minutes it's not gonna get any hotter, it's just wasting time and propane. I use an IR gun to check all spots inside it, there's zero difference in mine after 20'ish minutes. If you're somewhere where it's freezing cold you might need an extra 10 minutes max to get it to max temp. After an hour I can have 10 pizzas already made.

The burning was your fault due to not watching 😁, you need a Turner and not use the peel or they get too hot and you can't apply the next dough. Most pizza is cooked between 60-90 seconds turning regularly......excellent ovens

That IR thermometer doesn't provide an accurate reading at the angle that you tried to use it at. Ideally perpendicular to the heated surface gives the best results.

Wow, I haven't seen Stew Leonard's in a long time. Nice review. I'm tempted by the new Dome they released but doesn't seem like they are prepared to supply them anytime soon.

Hi Steve..loved this video. Classical music which I know..maybe from the Nutcracker..not sure. Would love to see how the wood burner works. By the way... I love apple cider doughnuts too.
