Nice break down! When Guetta is tapping the CDJ, I think he's specifically tapping the CUE button. Yes, he's trying to get in the groove, but this technique also gives him a chance to make sure the first beats of the incoming track sound good with the current track and verify that the phrasing of both tracks match up well.
@djcarlo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I kinda realized this after uploading the video. Let's just say I got used to the controller life at some point, hahaha. But indeed, I know people who do that to cue (a lot actually!) so good eye on that!

Have to agree with this 100%..I’m not taking away any of David Guetta’s skill or talent, but to be honest all the music he plays sounds the same an obviously he plays a lot of the music he produces himself,, which makes the tracks blend so much easier.. Yes you do still need to know the basics of djaying and know how to use the technology at hand, but it is much easier to master.. Djaying today with all the technology is so much easier than before, don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on technology as I have embraced it myself.. I am lucky enough to say that I heard Larry Levan spin when I was young, and his skill at creating a mood was on par with none.. I have played alongside Dj’s such as Frankie Knuckles, Claudio Coccoluto and Roger Sanchez to name a few back in the early 90’s..where people would go to clubs and dance and not watch and be seen.. I don’t go out that much to clubs anymore, I guess it’s an age thing I suppose.. Recently I came across this KZbin video of Kerri Chandler cutting it up on Reel to Reel.. Have a look and tell me what you think..There’s some real skill going on there kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3Safqpuh8-fjq8

About tapping the Cue button: one thing that really helped my beat matching was to hear it matched perfectly on cue. Then I'd stop the incoming deck, and mix when I want. Having heard how it should sound, it takes me only a few nudges to get it right when the fader and low is fully up.
@djcarlo3 жыл бұрын
Pretty good way of beat matching if you ask me! Everyone has their own method for it.

I love him, like truely. I like his music and I love the way he talks about his art, him being nice and educative at some videos, not a "cool ass that doesnt talk at all." BUT, I think he did not deserve to have "the best dj" tittle. He might be one of the greatest, maybe even greatest producers of electronic music. He is one of the biggest reasons that EDM is popular world wide, but DJ'ing is a different aspect of the art, people should realise it. Great vid btw man. ^^

He has been a DJ for 40 years almost starting the club scene in Paris in the 80s. Now people just book him to sell tickets. It's quite amazing the area you can cover with simple knowledge of Hot Cues and effect chains. Combine that with natural rhythm and tempo, you can have a lot of fun! I just started Djing in December at a local club here. Very small town. The original DJ couldn't stand people making requests *eye roll* ... I'm pretty sure that is the objective for venues not targeting any specific genre, crowd please. Although, it does get frustrating at times, the amount of excitement and thrill I get from turning a barking person into a arm flailing, constantly sweating dancer....worth every second. You really made the past 2 months a lot easier for me. I have great tempo and understanding of music because of playing live via band for 12 years. So your guidance really opened up some cool performances and allowed for 99.9% happy faces at the end. Thanks man.

There is a different reason why Guetta taps the CUE button. which is far more important. When used in combination with memory cues, the CUE button is the only way to mimmic gated cues on a CDJ. Hotcues will always trigger a paused track to play. While using the CUE button with a loaded memory cue will move the playback head back the the memory cue point when released, unless the play button is triggered. That is also the reason why my conversion tools set both the hot- and memory cue identical. I prefer memory cues with the CUE button over hot cues for starting the track.

White labels that you just can’t find. So as a 54 year old I’m still “ AVIN IT LARGE” !! That’s means enjoying life in cockney !! PEACE ✌️

Here I think that everyone has a specific technique, it depends on how it was learned. The extended mix and radio edit variants, in between, are difficult to mix, but not impossible. You have to combine several techniques. When you're only dealing with extended mix, it's very easy to mix because you have more time for them to combine. In radio edit it is more difficult, because you have to move quickly and force more combinations. Everyone knows their style.
@djcarlo Жыл бұрын
Yup! I actually have that detailed in some other tutorials on the channel, simply because there's lot of different edits and genres out there! Even I get confused haha

Deorro please! I’d like to see how he manages to mix Latin music with higher bpm dance music in a way that flows so well. A lot of artist could mix in reggaeton but he’s the first I saw mix slower genres like cumbia with dance music

Show Off .. totally kidding. Love your videos. I haven't used my controller in a while, but been listening to other peoples sessions and just taking in listening to music till I get back on the wheels. Always get some inspiration when I see some newer videos. Really like what Serato did with the Stems.... Really wish I had a Serato Controller but in time RekordBox will get there. First isn't always the best.

A question. Before you go to a club as a beginner dj do you practice the mix between the songs at home, or do you do it at that moment in the club?
@djcarlo3 жыл бұрын
I used to do a combo of both! Practice some mixes at home that sounded great, but I liked the spontaneity in the clubs because you won't know the vibe till you really read the room!
